1 Virtual IHS-PC Virtual IHS-PCs are centralized computers running at IHS and offer convenient access to IT resources (printers, software, H:, J:, U: and backup) from anywhere, from any device no IHSVPN needed! Connect and disconnect to the Virtual IHS-PC as you go, resume right where you stopped last time. All programs will keep running and as soon as your connection is re-established you may re-connect to the still-running Virtual IHS-PC. Working in the IT Training room or in the Guest office, when using a Virtual Number Cruncher or if you don t have any office at the IHS, you may use a Virtual IHS-PC: Josefstädter Straße 39 Virtual IHS-PC Virtual IHS-PC Virtual IHS-PC IHS Thin Client (small PC) Internet Computer, tablet, smartphone Web Browser computer, tablet, smartphone VMWare Horizon Client software installed supported platforms: ios and Android; Windows, Linux and OS X Browser bookmarks and other program settings are not synchronized with a regular IHS-PC. Always save your files to H:, J:, U: - like on regular IHS-PCs and laptops. There is no backup for any of the local drives C: and D:, and no way to recover lost files. USB and audio will work out of the box (no USB available when accessing via web browser). As long as you don t log off or shut down the Virtual IHS-PC (e.g. via Ctrl + Alt + Delete), your Virtual IHS-PC will keep running. To disconnect from the Virtual IHS-PC and still have your Desktop in the current state and stay logged in, do the following: o When working with IHS Thin Client: Press I/O-Button o When working from browser or VMWare Horizon software: Select Disconnect Note that from time to time the Virtual IHS-PCs will be shut down for maintenance. Any previously locally saved files may be lost afterwards and/or you may be force logged off! When connecting to the same Virtual IHS-PC from another location you will be disconnected from the first location (device) you were connecting from (only single connection possible).

2 IHS Thin Client Virtual IHS-PC from Guest office and IT Training room 1. Turn on the Thin Client by pressing the -Button. 2. On your screen, click Connect 3. and enter your IHS-userID and password. Click Login to proceed. 4. From the list, choose a Desktop and click Connect. Finally, you are connected to your Virtual IHS-PC. Note: When you are done, always log off by pressing the -Button (see Step #1). Otherwise your H:, J:, U:, etc. remain accessible to everyone else! Getting there from anywhere in the world Outside IHS, open a web browser and go to A Install VMWare Horizon Client : For extra convenience install VMWare Horizon software on your device (PC/Mac, tablet or smartphone). Supports: ios and Android; Windows, Linux and OS X. B VMWare Horizon View Access : Connect to VMWare Horizon View via web browser. Suitable for PCs, laptops and tablets. Platformindependent.

3 A Using VMWare Horizon Client Go to and click the left tile Install VMWare Horizon Client. Download and install the program/app for your device. Use in Windows 1. Launch the VMWare Horizon Client. 2. Click + New Server. 3. Enter the name of the connection server: view.ihs.ac.at Confirm via Connect. 4. A new tile titled view.ihs.ac.at has appeared. Click the tile and log in by your IHS-userID and password. Click Login to proceed. A list of the desktops available will be shown. 6. To connect to the Virtual IHS-PC, click the -icon. Note: When you are done, always log off via the unplug symbol: This especially applies when accessing from any public or shared computer. Otherwise your H:, J:, U:, etc. remain accessible to the entire world!

4 Finally, you are connected to your Virtual IHS-PC. 7. Disconnect your session. To disconnect your session, expand Options and choose <- Disconnect from the menu on the right. Use Ctrl+Alt+Del. Your Virtual IHS-PC will keep running. You may re-connect to your Virtual IHS-PC from any location to proceed at any time.

5 Use in Android 1. Launch the VMWare Horizon app. 2. In the first line, enter the server address view.ihs.ac.at. In the second line, enter IHS. Click Connect 3. and log in by your IHS-userID and password. Again, click Connect to proceed. A list of the desktops available will be shown. 4. To connect to the Virtual IHS-PC, click the -icon. Finally, you are connected to your Virtual IHS-PC. To disconnect your session, expand the three dots to the right (circle of six dots in full screen mode) and click Disconnect ( in full screen mode). Your Virtual IHS-PC will keep running. You may re-connect to your Virtual IHS-PC from any location to proceed at any time. 5. Disconnect your session.

6 B Use VMWare Horizon View Access 1. Go to and click the right tile VMWare Horizon View Access. 2. Enter your IHS-userID and password and click Login. A list of all virtual computers available to you will be shown: 3. To connect, click the -icon. You are now connected to your Virtual IHS-PC: Note: Log off from the dash board when you are done! Use the button Log Out. This especially applies when accessing from any public or shared computer. Otherwise your H:, J:, U:, etc. may remain accessible to unauthorized persons, too! Ctrl+Alt+Del. Expand the handle on the left. The menu buttons reveal further options. There are two options, these options can be found in the expandable menu on the left, behind the small menu buttons 4. Disconnect via Close. on the top right and next to your Virtual IHS-PC in the Running list: Either close the session and disconnect the Virtual IHS-PC. Any programs will keep running, and documents remain open. You may re-connect to your Virtual IHS-PC and proceed at any time. The second option is to completely terminate the session via Log off. Your programs will be canceled, documents closed and unsaved changes are lost. (Think of logging off from a normal IHS-PC.) Note: When accessing via web browser you cannot use the USB devices attached to your PC. 5. Terminate session via Log off.
