1 Mica Lodge Internet Cheat Sheet Internet communications and telephone services are provided through satellite connection at Mica. On arrival at the lodge you will be provided with an internet account which includes 90 MB/day (45 MB download / 45 MB upload) of complimentary data for the duration of your stay. This allotment has proven to be plenty for most of our guests, and our default level of filtering helps to limit unwanted data consumption. To help you manage your usage, we have put together a few tricks for reducing data used by background applications, refreshes and automatic updates. This list is not exhaustive, but it does help and we appreciate you taking a few minutes to review the settings on each of your devices before you arrive at the lodge. While at the Lodge, you will be able to monitor your usage through Mica s portal page. At any time, however, you can easily purchase additional data. Or, if you feel the level of our default-filtering is too restrictive, you can request to change to a plan with a fewer filtering restrictions. Before you begin, please note the following: - Jot down any changes that you make, settings that you change, or programs that you disable so you can return your device to its original state once you leave the lodge. Feel free to keep these sheets to help you restore your devices. - icloud Photo Stream / Photo Sharing users, please save all photos to the cloud before disabling icloud / Photo Sharing / Photo Stream. If you do not, unsaved photos will be lost. PLEASE DO THIS BEFORE YOU LEAVE THE MICA OFFICE. - Cloud Drive users, please make sure all of your documents / spreadsheets / data are saved to the cloud, and saved locally if you would like to access while at the lodge. Once your Cloud Drives (icloud, One Drive, Dropbox, Google Drive, etc.) have been disabled, nothing will be synced until they are enabled again. - Apple Music users, please make sure your music library is backed up to the cloud before logging out of itunes. While logged out of itunes, you will not be able to access your Apple / icloud Music Library. You will require your itunes password to log back in, and you can find your Apple Music Library under Settings > Music > Library > Turn on icloud Music Library. - While at the lodge, please see the Lodge Manager with questions or for assistance. FYI: Some of the biggest data users are streamed content (audio, photos, video, music and podcasts), on-line newspapers, sports channels, GPS based-maps and stock reports.

2 Android Phones / Tablets 1. Disable Facebook autoplay - Open the Facebook app - Tap Menu button > Settings - Scroll down and tap Video Auto-play - Select OFF 2. Close open apps - Launch recent applications menu (tap home button twice, but can vary between devices) - Tap and hold application preview and swipe to the right. - Navigate to the Apps tab in settings (Application Manager) - Select running tab to see what is running - Navigate back to all apps tab and scroll to applications that are click, then click stop or force stop 3. Restrict Background Data - Settings > Wireless and Networks > Data Usage - Tap the 3 dots on the top right > Restrict Background Data 4. Turn off auto-updates - Settings > General - Toggle off Auto-Update apps 5. Disable Location Services - Settings > Location > Off - Accounts > Google > Location History > Off - Swipe down from top of screen > toggle off GPS 6. Turn on airplane mode then turn WIFI back on 7. If using Chrome, enable Data Saver - Launch Chrome Settings - Toggle on Data Saver

3 Iphones / Ipads icloud photo stream / photo sharing users: save all photos to cloud before disabling icloud Photo Sharing / Photo Stream. If you do not, those photos will removed you re your device. DO THIS BEFORE YOU LEAVE THE MICA OFFICE. Disable background app refresh - Settings > General > Background App Refresh - Toggle off 5. Disable Handoff - Settings > General > Handoff & Suggested Apps - Toggle off Handoff 6. Disable Location Services - Settings > Privacy > Location Services > Never 7. Turn on airplane mode, turn on wifi 8. If using Chrome, enable Data Saver - Launch Chrome Settings - Toggle on Data Saver

4 Apple Computers 1. Disable Facebook Auto-Play - Open Facebook - Select the options drop-down menu in the top right > Settings > Videos - Turn the "Auto-Play Videos" from "ON" to "OFF" 2. Disable Auto-Updates - Apple Menu > System Preferences - App Store > Install OS X Updates - Uncheck Automatically check for updates 3. Close Open Apps - Open Force Quit Menu: Command+Option+ESC - Quit any unnecessary applications - Examples: itunes, Dropbox, internet browsers 4. Limit Apps that Launch on startup - Apple Menu > Preferences> Users & Groups - Select User Account > Login Items - You will see a list of items that open automatically when you log in. Unselect apps that are not necessary. 5. Disable Handoff - Apple Menu > System Preferences > General - Unselect Allow Handoff between this Mac and your icloud devices 6. Turn Off icloud Drive - Apple Menu > System Preferences > icloud - Disable icloud Drive - Files will not by synced until this is enabled again

5 Microsoft Computers 1. Disable Facebook Auto-Play - Open Facebook - Options drop-down menu in the top right > Settings > Videos - Toggle Auto-Play Videos from ON to OFF 2. Set Metered Connection - Start > Settings > Network & Internet > Wi-Fi > Advanced Options / your connection name - Select Set as metered connection 3. Turn off background apps - Settings > Privacy > Background Apps - Toggle off unnecessary apps 4. Disable OneDrive - CTRL + SHIFT + ESC - Select Startup Tab then disable One Drive - You can also do this for other syncing clients such as Dropbox or Google Drive 5. Disable PC Syncing - Settings> Accounts > Sync your settings - Turn off 6. Turn off feed-based apps in Live Tiles (mail, twitter, weather, Facebook, etc.) - Right click live tile > More > turn live tile off 7. Turn off auto-updates - Settings > Update and Security > Windows Update > Advanced Options > Choose how updates are delivered > Defer future updates 8. Limit Apps that Launch on Startup - CTRL + ALT + DEL - Select task manager - Click startup tab - Right click and disable any programs not necessary on startup (Dropbox, skype, OneDrive, etc.)
