9 CHAPTER 2 Software Installation Software Download and Installation Preparation Use the release definitions and online technical documentation available from the Teradata Information Products or Teradata At YourService web site to identify software dependencies and the appropriate software installation guide. Most Teradata software installation guides are available online through the Teradata Information Products site. An FTP client or download accelerator program can make the download process easier. In the case of SFTP downloads, you must use an SFTP client such as WinSCP or FileZilla to move the files from the SFTP server to another location on your network. File Download There are three options that you can use to download software. HTTP Public FTP FTP or SFTP There are two different types of HTTP options: HTTP (enhanced) for Customers: Customers accessing this site will be presented with this download option. This option uses the Akamai Download Manager to provide faster and more dependable http downloading. This option can also be leveraged by Teradata associates when accessing this site while off of the Teradata Network. HTTP for Teradata Associates: This option bundles the selected files in one zip file and downloads the file to your local workstation. Teradata employees cannot download ESDM (for US tax-exempt) orders. A high-speed connection (10 MBps or better) when downloading files is strongly recommended. Do not decompress the downloaded files until you have moved them to the system where they will be installed. If you do so, the installation or upgrade process may fail. 10 Chapter 2: Software Installation File Download A: ESD/ESD User Manual Toggles between the main page of the Teradata ESD web site and the ESD user documentation in PDF format. B: Table of Contents Download Software: Displays the files you can download in the right pane. Select SLES10 64-bit or SLES11 64-bit depending on your SuSE Linux Enterprise Server version. Release Definition: Opens the Teradata web site in a new window where you can search for Release Definitions and other publications. Parallel Upgrade Tool (PUT): Displays the page for downloading the TDput package that is used for installing and upgrading Teradata software. FTP Log: Displays links to logs of the most recent FTP/SFTP sessions. Teradata Public FTP: Displays the URL for the Teradata Public FTP site in the right pane. Issues? Contact Us: Click to send an to Information Products, Teradata ESD. ESD Help: Click to display some basic help for the web site in the right pane. C: Content display Displays content relevant to the link clicked in the Table of Contents pane. D: Download options Provides options for download types and enables choice regarding label file download. Downloading Files Using HTTP (Enhanced) The HTTP (enhanced) download option downloads selected files from outside of the Teradata network to any location on your network using a browser. This option, by default, installs and uses the Akamai NetSession Interface to make the process more efficient and reliable, especially for large files. 11 not to install this download manager (for example, because your corporate network policies prevent the installation), you can still download your software by clicking an alternate link. Some pop-up blockers can interfere with viewing Akamai NetSession Interface windows that contain information about your downloads. Turn off any pop-up blockers or enable pop-ups for the ESD site before proceeding. See the documentation for your browser or third-party pop-up blocker for instructions about how to do this. Some browsers also require Flash to be enabled in order for the Akamai NetSession Interface windows to display. Refer to your browser's Help to allow the ESD site to run Flash. 1. In a web browser, go to and log in using the credentials provided by Indicate the files you want to download. 3. Select HTTP (enhanced) as the Download Type. 4. Select the desired Download Label Files option. The label files provide additional details about the software packages. Teradata recommends that you download these files along with the software packages. 5. Click Download. Chapter 2: Software Installation File Download The Akamai NetSession Interface window appears. If this window does not display, see the Note above. 6. Do the following, depending on whether or not you want to use Akamai NetSession: Option Description Download using Akamai NetSession a. In the Browse for Folder dialog box, select a location on your network for the download of your Teradata software and click OK. Download without using Akamai NetSession a. Click the click here link. b. Click OK. A TSS download window displays the individual file links for your Teradata software. c. Click a file link. d. In the File Download dialog box, click Save. e. In the Save As dialog box, select a download location on your network, and then click Save. f. Repeat for each link in the TSS Download window. 7. When you have finished downloading your Teradata software, move and archive the downloaded files. Downloading Files Using HTTP (on Teradata Network) Typically, the HTTP download option described below would only be available to Teradata employees on the Teradata network who download software for a non-esdm tax exempt customer. For example, a Teradata technician might download the software while on the Teradata network, burn it to a CD/DVD, and take the media to a customer s site for installation. This option bundles the selected files in one zip file and downloads the file. The use of the HTTP option is not recommended when downloading over 500 MB of files. If the combined size of the selected files amounts to over 500 MB, download the files in smaller batches by selecting fewer files at a time or use a different download option. 1. In a web browser, go to and log in using the credentials provided by Indicate the files you want to download. 3. Select HTTP as the Download Type. 4. Select the desired Download Label Files option. The label files provide additional details about the software packages. Teradata recommends that you download these files along with the software packages. 5. Click Download. 6. Click Download again to confirm. 7. In the File Download dialog box, click Save. 8. Navigate to the desired download location and click Save to download a compressed archive of the files to that location. 9. 13 Downloading Files Using Teradata Public FTP The Teradata Public FTP option copies the selected files to a Teradata public server for your access. After you click Download, the files are transferred and a log then displays the FTP location and additional instructions for accessing the files. Some pop-up blockers can interfere with viewing the FTP log window that contains important information about your downloads. Turn off any pop-up blockers or enable pop-ups for the ESD web site before proceeding. See the documentation for your browser or third-party pop-up blocker for instructions about how to do this. 1. In a web browser, go to and log in using the credentials provided by Indicate the files you want to download. 3. Select Teradata Public FTP as the Download Type. 4. Enter the following information for the Teradata Public FTP server: Directory: Enter a directory name for the download using the following format: / directory_name/. If the directory does not exist, it will be created. 5. Select the desired Download Label Files option. The label files provide additional details about the software packages. Teradata recommends that you download these files along with the software packages. 6. Click Download to download the selected file to the Teradata Public FTP server. An FTP log window appears with information about the download, including the URL of the downloaded file. The URL changes for each download. Chapter 2: Software Installation File Download 7. Follow the instructions in the FTP log window to download the files. To save a copy of the FTP information, click Save. 8. When you have finished downloading your Teradata software, move and archive the downloaded files. Downloading Files Using FTP or SFTP Use this procedure to download Teradata software using FTP or SFTP. The FTP and SFTP options copy the selected files from the Teradata server to your host server. Some pop-up blockers can interfere with viewing the FTP log window that contains important information about your downloads. Turn off any pop-up blockers or enable pop-ups for the ESD web site before proceeding. See the documentation for your browser or third-party pop-up blocker for instructions about how to do this. If running FTP from behind a firewall, open the required ports before establishing an FTP connection. Coordinate opening the ports with the security group at the site before starting the download. 1. In a web browser, go to and log in using the credentials provided by Indicate the files you want to download. 3. Select FTP or SFTP to set the Download Type. 4. 14 Chapter 2: Software Installation Move and Archive Downloaded Files FTP/SFTP IP Address: The IP address of your host server either as dot decimal notation (xx.xx.xx.xx) or as a domain name (ftp.teradata.com) FTP/SFTP UserName: The logon user name for your host server FTP/SFTP Password: The logon password for your host server FTP/SFTP Directory: An existing directory on your host server where you want to download the file. Do not enter anything to download to the root directory. If you are going to the Teradata FTP server, you can create a new directory using the format: /xfer/ directory_name. The existing directory name must start with /xfer. 5. Select the desired Download Label Files option. The label files provide additional details about the software packages. Teradata recommends that you download these files along with the software packages. 6. Click Download to download the selected file from Teradata to your host server. If you have downloaded the files to an SFTP server, you must use an SFTP client such as WinSCP or FileZilla to move the files from that server to another location on your network. You cannot use a browser as you can with regular FTP downloads. 7. When you have finished downloading your Teradata software, move and archive the downloaded files. Move and Archive Downloaded Files If the system used to download the files is not network-attached to the target system or systems where the software is to be installed, move or copy the files to either the target system or a network-attached system. Make a copy of the compressed files either explicitly or through standard archive procedures. File Decompression Use the procedures in this section to decompress the files on the appropriate system type. Before proceeding, ensure that all prerequisite tasks described in the installation instructions for the software to be installed have been performed. Documentation CD compressed files are self-extracting executables that must be decompressed on a Windows system. Notice: Do not decompress the downloaded files until you have moved them to the system where they are to be installed. Otherwise, the installation or upgrade process may fail. Decompressing Files on a UNIX/LINUX System Use this procedure to decompress files on a UNIX/LINUX system. 1. At the command prompt, enter the following command to obtain a checksum on each downloaded file: cksum <file name> 14 Electronic Software Distribution Guide

15 where <file name> is the filename output from the directory listing. 2. Compare the calculated number with the checksum number embedded in the file name. 3. Do one of the following: If the numbers match, the FTP process was successful. Go to the next step. If the checksum does not match, return to File Download, download the file again and restart this procedure. 4. Use the appropriate decompression command based on the executables present on the system. If gzcat is present, enter the following at the command prompt: gzcat <file name>.tar.gz tar -xvf - If gzcat is not present, enter the following at the command prompt: gunzip <file name>.tar.gztar xvf <file name>.tar Because the downloaded files were created on a different system with a different user and group name, messages reflecting unknown groups and users might appear when the files are decompressed. These messages are alerts, not errors, and will not prevent the software from installing correctly. 5. Repeat steps 1 through 4 for each of the compressed files. Chapter 2: Software Installation File Decompression Decompressing Files on a Windows System For Windows systems, the downloaded files are compressed in self-extracting executables. Move the downloaded files to either the target system or a network-attached system. If the files were downloaded by a Teradata employee while on the Teradata network using the HTTP option, the downloaded files are compressed in a single zipped archive. Use the following procedure to decompress the files. 1. Right-click the zipped archive, and then select Extract All. 2. Click Browse to change the location, if necessary. 3. Click Extract. The files and directories are decompressed in the specified location. Decompressing Files for z/os Use the following procedure to decompress z/os software and reconstitute the install tape. 1. Under USS/UNIX OS at the command prompt, enter the following command to obtain a checksum on each downloaded file: cksum <filename> 2. Ensure the DCB attributes for the downloaded dataset on z/os are: DSORG=PS,RECFM=FB,LRECL=1024,BLKSIZE=any legalmultiple of LRECL 3. Decompress the file using the IBM TRSMAIN program. The following JCL can be used after it is customized: //TRSMN JOB //* //TRSMAIN EXEC PGM=TRSMAIN,PARM='UNPACK' Electronic Software Distribution Guide 15

Customize the JOB and PROC statements in member EDRECV of the OUTFILE dataset. 5. Submit the JOB. A tape is created that can be installed according to the standard installation instructions. ISO File Mounts Use the procedures in this section to mount ISO files on the appropriate system type. Before proceeding, ensure that all prerequisite tasks described in the installation instructions for the software to be installed have been performed. Mounting the ISO File on a Windows System 1. Decompress or extract the BCD0-XXXX-0000_Version_V1-1.iso file to a Windows location using an application of your choice, such as 7-Zip. 2. Open the.iso file as an archive. 3. Follow the product installation guide to install the product.. Mounting the ISO File on a Linux System 1. Log on to your Linux client as root and type the following command: mkdir /tmp2 2. Copy the BCD0-XXXX-0000_Version_V1-1.iso file to your /tmp2 folder in your Linux system. /tmp2 is used in this example, but you can choose any directory. It is recommended that you choose a sufficiently large file system other than root in order not to fill up the root directory. 3. Type the following commands: cd /tmp2 mkdir MOUNTPOINT mount -o loop -t iso9660 BCD0-XXXX-0000_Version_V1-1.iso MOUNTPOINT cd MOUNTPOINT ls -l (there should be a setup.bat installation script) 4. Follow the product installation guide to install the product. Mounting the ISO File on an AIX System 1. Log on to your AIX client as root and type the following command: mkdir /tmp2 16 Electronic Software Distribution Guide

17 2. Copy the BCD0-XXXX-0000_Version_V1-1.iso file to your /tmp2 folder in your Linux system. /tmp2 is used in this example, but you can choose any directory. 3. Type the following commands: cd /tmp2 mkdir /product_name loopmount -i./ BCD0-XXXX-0000_Version -o "-V cdrfs -o ro" -m /product_name cd /product_name 4. Follow the product installation guide to install the product. Chapter 2: Software Installation ISO File Mounts Mounting the ISO File on a Solaris System 1. Log on to your Solaris Unix client as root and type the following command: mkdir /export/home/iso 2. Copy the BCD0-XXXX-0000_Version_V1-1.iso file to your /export/home/iso folder in your Solaris system. 3. Type the following command: lofiadm -a /export/home/iso/bcd0-xxxx-0000_version_v1-1.iso An o/p with a message similar to the following is displayed: /dev/lofi/2. The last part of the directory path (/dev/lofi/2) may have a different numerical value; it is not always Do one of the following: If the value is 2, execute the following command: mount -F hsfs -o ro /dev/lofi/2 /directory_name cd /directory_name cd /ttubase If it is a different value, execute the appropriate command in step corresponding to the number value. 5. Follow the product installation guide to install the product. Mounting the ISO File on an HPUX System 1. Log on to your HP-UX Unix client as root and type the following command: mkdir /tmp2 2. Copy the BCD0-XXXX-0000_Version_V1-1.iso file to your /tmp2 folder in your Linux system. /tmp2 is used in this example, but you can choose any directory. 3. Type the following commands: cd /tmp2 du -k./bcd0-xxxx-0000_version_v1-1.iso Electronic Software Distribution Guide 17

18 Chapter 2: Software Installation Downloading Patches lvcreate -L 3200M -n lv_directory_name /dev/vg00 dd if=./bcd0-xxxx-0000_version_v1-1.iso of=/dev/vg00/lv_directory_name bs=256k mkdir /MOUNT_POINT mount =/dev/vg00/lv_directory_name /MOUNT_POINT 4. Follow the product installation guide to install the product. Mounting the ISO File on a Mac OSx System 1. Type the following command to copy the BCD0-XXXX-0000_Version_V1-1.iso file to your system. hdiutil mount./ BCD0-XXXX-0000_Version_V1-1.iso -mountpoint / Directory_name /dev/disk2 /Directory_name 2. Follow the Teradata Tools and Utilities for Apple OS X Installation Guide, B , to install the TTU MacOSx. Mounting the ISO File on a z/os System 1. Decompress or extract the BCD0-XXXX-0000_Version_V1-1.iso file to a Windows location using an application of your choice, such as 7-Zip. 2. Open the ISO file as an archive. 3. Follow the README.pdf file and the product installation guide to install the product. Downloading Patches Download any available patches from the Teradata Software Server (TSS) or Teradata At Your Service. These patches have to be installed at the same time as the base packages. For Teradata Database Software Installations and Upgrades, see Installing or Upgrading Teradata Database Software to install fixes with the base packages. See Additional Information for more information on where to find patches. 1. Log in under the TAYS PORTAL section of the Teradata Support web page. 2. Select the Tools icon, or Software Downloads. 3. Select Certified Configs. 4. Select the appropriate lists, and complete the prompts. Software Installation After downloading, archiving, decompressing the ESD files, and performing any prerequisite tasks, return to the appropriate installation guide to install the software. 18 Electronic Software Distribution Guide

19 CHAPTER 3 Teradata Database ESDM Software Teradata Database ESDM Software Overview This chapter only applies to those sites that have received new Teradata hardware that was fully staged and then shipped without the Teradata software installed. The procedures in this chapter can only be performed by a Teradata Customer Services associate with access to the tools used in the procedures. Installing or Upgrading Teradata Database Software After downloading, archiving, and decompressing the ESDM files, refer to the Install/Upgrade Software chapter in the Parallel Upgrade Tool (PUT) Reference, B to install the software. If installing Teradata on a new system, the appropriate patches must be installed along with the base packages prior to restoring the configuration. 1. Check the /home/esdm/pkginfo.log file on the shipped system to identify the patch levels that the system was originally staged with. If this file is not currently available, refer to the all_check.doc file sent with the Open Me First sent to the CSR. This document will have a listing of the files installed on the system prior to removal by the ESDM process. Refer to the pkg_sync section of the file. 2. Download any required patches. 3. Install the patches along with the base packages downloaded from ESD. 4. Restore the staged configuration files. Restoring Staged-Configuration Information Use this procedure to restore staged configuration information on a Linux system. 1. At the command prompt on the PDN node, enter: sh /home2/awadm/esdm_script -r -a For SMP systems, enter: sh /home2/awadm/esdm_script -l -r -a Before copying the gdo files from /home/esdm, the script: Verifies that all configuration and gdo files are located in /home/esdm. Verifies that the Teradata package versions the system was staged with are installed and linked for PDE, TDBMS, TGTW, TDGSS, and TCHN (if applicable). Electronic Software Distribution Guide 19

20 Chapter 3: Teradata Database ESDM Software System Verification Reads the PDE, TDBMS, TGTW, TDGSS, and TCHN (if applicable) versions that the system was staged with from control.gdo and verifies that they match the current versions installed on the node. The restore will occur as long as the first two octets of the staged Teradata version matches the running version. If all of the above checks pass, the script copies the configuration files and verifies that the verify_pdisks command runs successfully. System Verification TCS associates should perform the system testing and verification steps as outlined in the change control template used for the installation or upgrade of the downloaded software. 20 Electronic Software Distribution Guide
