3 3 1. Introduction In version 2.0 of gvsig has included a small environment for the development and execution of scripts that interact with the application. These scripts allow us to automate small tasks or add some functionality we need and we are able to implement. The extension of scripting or scripting framework, characterized by: Being integrated into gvsig, thus you do not need other programs to run our scripts in gvsig. Another advantage offered by this integration is the ability to use gvsig libraries within our scripts, and we may also able to use the different elements that we loaded in gvsig. Supports multiple languages. Among the supported languages is Jython, which is an implementation of Python to be executed within the Java virtual machine. This programming language as well as being simple, is well suited to functional programming (scripts) but also supports object oriented programming. Other languages are supported by extension Groovy and JavaScript. From now on in this course we will focus on Jython as the scripting language used. The extension incorporates an interactive terminal, which allows us to test and get results immediately, and interact with the various elements we load in memory. The extension also includes forms design environment and custom windows. This environment is based on Thinlet currently. Installing scripting extension. The default installation has no base gvsig plugging doesn't provide a scripting support, so the first thing we have to do is to install it. This will start gvsig and in the Tools menu select the option Manager. The Plugin Manager is a tool that allows you to add gvsig new utilities, such as scripts, languages for the user interface, plugging, symbol sets or application assistance. These supplements can be added from the file system of your computer or a repository through Internet. You can access this tool from the menu Tools / Manager.

4 4 Menu Tools / Manager Once we are in the open Plugin Manager window, select the standard installation option, then press the Next button (Step 1). Finally we will look for the Scripting framework extension, select it and press again the End button to proceed with the installation of the plugging (Step 2). Step 1. Select Standard Installation

5 5 Step 2. Select the extension framework Scripting Once the installation of the plugging should close gvsig and restart it before you can start using the newly installed extension. 2. Tools of the scripting extension The launcher The script launcher or launcher is a tool that allows us to sort and view available scripts and execute them quickly. You can access the Launcher Scripting tool in the Tools / Scripting gvsig. This tool has a small floating window within the window frame that shows gvsig available scripts, just double click on each to run them.

6 6 Scripting Launcher Scripting composer. Script Editor. The Scripting Composer is an editing tool that lets you write your scripts directly from the gvsig execution environment in a very comfortable way. It also allows us to create folders where we can keep our scripts to organize. It also allows the creation of forms. This tool is accessed from the Menu Tools / Scripting selecting Scripting Composer. This action displays the Editor window. The editing environment window is divided into different areas.

7 7 Scripting Composer Menu bar Toolbar Script Explorer Editing Area Notification area We can see that in one hand it includes a browser with the scripts available, the difference with the scripting launcher is that once you double click on the script it does not run, but it is displayed in the editing area. Once a script is opened for editing, it will be shown in the area for editing the script code that we have choose. In addition, there will be two or three tabs, depending on whether the script we have selected has a form associated or not. These tabs are:

8 8 Form View Design Dialog (optional): Displays the form associated with the script. The form can be displayed using preview or directly displaying the XML code it generates. Code: Displays the script source code Properties: Displays the script metadata, name, description, author and version. Editing Area

9 9 Scripting terminal The interactive terminal as we have mention allows the immediate execution of the instructions, so that they can be tested or check the behavior of certain instructions or objects. Scripting terminal detail 3 Creating a script. Once scripting plugging installed, go to Tools / Scripting Scripting and select the option Scripting Composer.

10 10 Menu bar. Tools It will be shown the Script Editor, click on File / New to create our script or click in New button on the toolbar. Nuevo script New Script Fill the required data in the window that has been displayed: Name, name of the content Type, Document Type Language, Programming Language Moreover, if we want other optional data.

12 12 Script Editor. New Script The scripting extension, when you run a script, finds the main function, and executes its contents. If there is no function it will produce an error. Once saved with the option File / Save or the save button run the script from the File menu / run or directly from the Run button.
