1 This article demonstrates how to restore Microsoft Exchange server databases taken by Macrium Reflect Server Plus Macrium Reflect Server Plus allows you to restore select databases back to your Microsoft Exchange Server providing the following restore scenarios: Restore to time of backup. Restore to point in time. Restore to either a different name or location. How to restore Microsoft Exchange databases to time of backup This section will outline the basic operation of how to select databases to restore. 1. Select the Microsoft Exchange Restore tab under he main Restore tab. The following view is presented, if no databases are available for restore then click the 'Folders To Search' link to search for Microsoft Exchange backup files.

2 2. Click the check box to the left of each database to be restored. By default the most recent backup will be selected for restore. The Restore Plan will show the backup file selected for restore. The Restore Summary will list all databases to be restored along with the date/time of the backup file to restore from. 3.Click the Restore button to restore selected databases back to original volume locations and database names. How to restore Microsoft Exchange databases to point in time Restoring to a different point in time will allow you to choose a moment in time when log files will be played up till. 1. Select databases to restore as outlined in the first section. 2. For each database to be restored, click the 'Restore from backup' link. This will present a dialog to select a backup file from the set:

3 3.Left click to select a file in the list and set as point of restore time. Optionally, click the 'View files...' link to show files contained in the backup (click the Close button to dismiss this dialog): 5. Click the OK button or click Cancel to keep the current selection. When restoring databases to point in time for the same storage group (under Microsoft Exchange 2003/2007) Macrium Reflect will force you to use the same backup file in a single restore operation to maintain log file consistency during the mount process. If you need to restore databases in the same storage group to different points in time, do so in separate restore operations. 6.Click Restore in the main Microsoft Exchange restore view to restore databases to original name and volume location but to point in time.

4 How to restore Microsoft Exchange databases to a different name or location Macrium Reflect Server Plus will allow you to restore databases to different names and locations with support for storage group and database creation. 1. Select databases to restore as outlined in the first section. 2.Click the Restore To link. The following dialog will be presented: 3.Click 'Restore to alternate location'. 4. For Microsoft Exchange 2007, a storage group will need to be specified. To keep the database in the original storage group click 'Use group name and path information from backup'. Alternatively, select an existing storage group from Select Storage Group list or specify a new storage group to create. 5.Click Next to proceed. Specify the database to restore to. Click 'Use database name and paths from backup' to restore to the original name and location. Alternatively, select a database from the Restore To Database list or specify

5 name and location values for a database to create. When specifying database values to a new database you will need to include a full path specification the EDB file, e.g.: E:\Databases\MyNewDatabase.edb 6.Click Next to proceed, a summary of the restore operation will be shown for review. 7.Click Finish to accept or click Cancel to discard the restore settings.
