2 This document includes product release notes for the QuickScan Pro 4.5 release. Known issues are also included within this document. Note: Updates to this document may have been made subsequent to its publication in PDF format. Upgrading Your Installation When upgrading, always install a new release to your test environment first. Perform the following steps before installing QuickScan Pro 4.5: Make a backup copy of your environments, including files that are related to jobs, workflows, and recognition results. Install the new version of QuickScan Pro to a test environment first. What s New The following enhancements have been added to the QuickScan Pro 4.5 software release: Batch Manager - The Batch Manager allows the user to manage all batches saved as QSB files. From one central location, the user can open, delete, or review the status of batches. Continuous scanning - Users can enable the Continuous scan option to automatically continue scanning with the same Scan profile when the scanner detects that there is more paper in the feeder. Sample Scan profiles - New sample Scan profiles are included to demonstrate some advanced features of QuickScan, such as zonal OCR, job separation, and including barcode text in a file naming schema. These Scan profiles use sample images and the Demo Driver so that a scanner is not necessary. QuickScan Help contains instructions that guide the user through a demonstration of each sample profile. Additional and enhanced tags for file naming schemas - The following file naming schema tags have been added or enhanced: o Date and Time tag - This tag was enhanced so that users can configure a custom date format. o Barcode Text tag - This tag was enhanced so that users can include barcode values in naming schemas for OCR results and Save As profiles. o Endorser String tag - This tag was added for users with scanners that support endorsing, also known as imprinting, and includes the endorser string in the image file name. o OCR Text tag - This tag was added so that users can define an OCR zone for recognizing text to use in the image file name. Barcode job separation enhancement - When using job separation with software barcodes, the user can choose to separate the batch only when a new barcode is detected, ignoring duplicate barcodes. Filters can also be configured to specify which barcode values to use for job separation and which to ignore. Automated batch file saving - Users can configure a Scan profile to automatically save a QuickScan Batch file (QSB) when the workflow is completed. Support for XSLT - QuickScan now supports XSL Transformations (XSLT) for automatically converting exported XML data to other formats. Support for Kofax VRS Auto Color Detection - When PIXKOFAX is the selected scanner driver, users can enable Kofax VRS Auto Color Detection in the Scan profile. OCR file naming enhancement - OCR profiles can be configured to use the same file naming schema for OCR results as for image files. QuickScan Pro 4.5 Release Notes 1 Jun-06

3 More file naming flexibility - The period (.) can now be used for image file naming. In previous versions, the period could only be used before the file extension. The user can also add custom file name extensions or choose to save image files without a file name extension. Multi-page file viewing/opening option - The user has the option of opening and viewing a batch of multi-page documents in the Thumbnails pane as separate documents or as images not separated by document. Automatic image deletion - Scan profiles can be configured to delete all image files when the workflow is complete. More customizable warnings - The user has more control over when not to display warning dialogs, such as when indexing, exporting, or OCR are complete. Additional tag for digital stamps - The Counter tag has been added to the list of digital stamp tags which gives a unique number to each image in the batch. New keyboard shortcut for indexing - The Enter key can be used for faster manual indexing. Automatically populate index fields - Index profiles can be configured to populate automatically without prompting an indexer to manually enter data. Abort export option - The user can choose to abort an export operation if index values do not match the regular expression or if a field is blank when it is not allowed. Save brightness/contrast settings option - The Save Document As dialog has been enhanced to allow the user to save any changes that were made to brightness or contrast while viewing the image. Set default page view settings - From the Options dialog, the user can configure the default page viewing settings. Scanner-side batch processing - The user can scan batches with QuickScan using the Scan button on the scanner. This feature can be configured to run QuickScan through the user interface or in command-line mode. Exporter SDK installation - The QuickScan Exporter SDK is now installed as a standard component of QuickScan. Automatically review export data - Export profiles can be configured to automatically open exported data in a specified application when exporting is complete. Optional header line for plain text export - When exporting data as plain text, the user can choose whether to display a header line at the top of the file. Example output area enhancement - The Example output area of the Modify Schema dialog has been enhanced to show a tool tips window with the full file path when the user hovers the mouse pointer over the truncated path. One column has also been removed to allow for more characters and less truncation. Workflow options when cancelling a scanning operation - When cancelling a scanning operation, the user is prompted to decide whether the pages already scanned should continue through the workflow specified in your profile, or whether to restart the batch entirely. This functionality can be configured or disabled in the Options dialog. Resolved Issues The following issues have been resolved in the QuickScan Pro 4.5 software release: Defect #271 - In the Scan Profile Editor, scanner settings are saved even when the Save scanner settings check box is not selected. Defect #449 - In the Modify schema dialog, the example output table should only have two columns. Defect #528 - Errors display when selecting a scanner using a non-administrator account. Defect #587 - The vertical scroll bar should disappear when everything is visible in the Thumbnails pane. QuickScan Pro 4.5 Release Notes 2 Jun-06

4 Defect #775 - When naming images with barcode values and no barcode is detected, the user should be able to see the scanned image while typing a file name in the Barcode Text Selection dialog. Defect #937 - No error message displays if the user tries to apply binary image processing filters to a color stream. Defect # In the User Administration dialog, the OK button should be disabled when trying to access a drive that the user does not have access to. Defect # No message displays when the path specified for saving Administrative Profile does not exist. QuickScan automatically creates the path without prompting the user. The user should have the option to create the path. Defect # The Administrative Profile file (AdminProfile.qsp) cannot be opened in Internet Explorer. Defect # Selecting Cancel Scanning during a Preview Scan does not cancel the scan. Defect # The Compression setting changes for images that are copied or cut and then pasted. Defect # In the Index Profile Editor, a QuickScan Batch file (QSB) cannot be selected as the Reference document. Defect # When no zone is specified for an index field, then the zoom setting for the image during indexing should be Fit to Window. Defect # Help buttons are linked to the wrong help topics in the Export Profile Editor dialog. Defect # The warning message when applying image processing filters to MDA or DCX multi-page files is not clear. Defect # If the paper source is specified as Flatbed in the scanner settings, then QuickScan should use the flatbed even if the Use flatbed if feeder is empty check box is not selected in the Scan tab of the Scan Profile Editor. Defect # QuickScan throws a run-time error after configuring the Line Removal image processing filter with no image loaded in the Page Viewer. Defect # When moving all pages in document, the page order changes. Defect # QuickScan Log files are no longer supported; documentation should reflect this. Defect # The Open dialog should default to displaying only basic options (not advanced). Defect # The warning message when deleting all pages in a document is unclear. Defect # Icons cannot be added to buttons in a customized toolbar. Defect # During scanning, the Confirm File Replace warning does not always display when it should. Defect # QuickScan throws an error message after scanning with one Scan profile several times. Defect # After inserting an image, the page selected in the Thumbnails pane does not correspond to the File Name in the Image Properties pane. Defect # QuickScan hangs when using the Demo Driver with Use directory and Loop selected if the selected directory contains non-image files. Defect # The Overview document should be available from Help menu. Defect # Scanning with a Canon DR-6080 is very slow. 5 Known Issues The following issues are known to exist in the QuickScan Pro 4.5 software release: Defect # OCR for Asian languages does not create an empty page in the output document when a page is recognized that has no recognizable text. Defect # The file size of an image is increased when a Digital Stamp is added that has not been merged with the image. Defect # When using a naming schema that includes the Endorser String tag, and no default text specified and the scanner settings are not set to detect an endorser string, scanning can begin and then an error message displays stating that QuickScan cannot generate the file name because no endorser string was detected. The error message should appear before scanning begins and should prevent the scan operation from beginning. Defect # When using Turnover scanning with a naming schema that includes the Barcode Text tag, some images are displayed incorrectly in the Thumbnails pane. Defect # Copy, cut, and paste commands do not work correctly in the Thumbnails pane after using the Barcode Text tag or the OCR Text tag in a naming schema if the text had to be entered manually. Defect # In the Keyboard tab of the Customize dialog, the names of some Commands are not completely visible in the Commands list. Defect # Job separation with hardware barcode job separators works incorrectly with Panasonic KV-S3065C (related to Defect #2692).
