1 Panopto 5.4 Release Notes Headline features Extended HTML5 support to include webcasts. Webcasts will now play using HTML5 video by default, in both the interactive viewer and the embed viewer. Added the capability to embed a Youtube video within a Panopto session. Added a welcome tour to orient new users to the Panopto VCMS. Behavior changes (these features have changed from 5.3.0) Browse folder tree in the VCMS navigation bar: The default scope for the folder tree has changed from My Folders to All Folders In and earlier versions of Panopto, child folders with inaccessible parent folders would incorrectly display as if they were top-level folders. In they now display at the correct position within the folder tree. In and earlier versions of Panopto extremely large numbers of folders were blocked from displaying in the folder tree. In the top level folders are now displayed even if the total number of folders is very large. After 1000 folders have loaded, a show more button is displayed. This, along with making All folders the default setting allows admins to quickly search for the correct folder within their site. Folder Picker control in the VCMS: Modified the APIs called by this control to improve performance. Added a Quick Access section at the top to provide easy access to recently used folders. Bug fixes and minor changes VCMS Welcome Tours Users with creator permissions: The welcome tour is shown to all new users that have creator permissions within the system. The tour is shown just once and can be skipped by the user. The tour will also be available on the VCMS Help menu for later reference.

2 A new setting controls whether the tour is enabled Enable Creator Introduction Tour. This new feature will be on by-default. Users with viewer permissions: Added the capability to show a welcome video to all new non-creator users. Two new settings control this feature Enable Viewer Introduction Tour and Viewer Introduction Tour Video URL. This feature is off by-default. Made improvements to folder navigation in the Browse folder tree in the VCMS. The folder tree now correctly visualizes hierarchies where users have access to child folders, but not parent folders. It now does a better job rendering very large numbers of folders by paging API requests to the Panopto server. Made performance improvements to the folder picker UI element. It won t render folders until opened for the first time, and it now loads folders in pages, reducing UI blocking with large numbers of folders. Modified the folder picker to present recently accessed folders at the top. Added the ability to be notified when a user is granted the admin role. Controlled by a new setting Admin Alert Address Share s: Added the ability to skip sending s by default when users share sessions or folders. Controlled by a new setting Send Share s By Default Added the ability for share s to come from the user that took the sharing action. Controlled by a new setting Allow share s from individual users Modernized the UX of the VCMS header, making the Search button within the Search box appear more like a button. Also fixed minor alignment and sizing issues for the Search box and Create button. Fixed an issue where clicking on the remember me checkbox when signing in from the VCMS list page would incorrectly dismiss the sign-in popup. Fixed an issue where Creators were unable to delete streams from the Streams page in the Session settings modal. Fixed an issue where Creators were not able to modify remote recorder schedules from the session modal when they had creator access to the remote recorder. Fixed an issue where the remembered expansion state of the Browse section of the navigation bar was incorrectly updated when changed automatically as opposed to only updating when the user takes explicit action to expand/collapse. Fixed some translation issues in French, German, and Danish. Webcasting HTML5 video is now the default playback experience for webcasts. [private beta] Added the ability to create a Panopto live webcast from an RTMP live stream. The Panopto server converts the webcast to the HLS modern streaming format in realtime, allowing Panopto s highly scalable viewer experience. When the webcast is complete, Panopto converts the stream to video-on-demand and search indexes the stream content, making it indistinguishable from a typical Panopto session. Note: this private beta is cloud-only. Admins and those with creator access can now see viewing stats for a live webcast and can access those stats directly from the session list page, even during the webcast. Improved the server performance of webcasting with enhancements to the caching system.

3 Viewer Editor Fixed a problem that could prevent secondary streams from playing back properly at the live position, leading to excessive buffering. Fixed an issue where users in mobile browsers were not given the option to launch the mobile app when navigating directly to a session. Fixed an issue where a quiz could be shown more than once when playing the session at 1.5x and 2x speeds. Fixed an issue in the embed viewer where captions would sometimes be shown in duplicate. Fixed a problem in the interactive viewer where the streams could fail to respond correctly to the play/pause button, especially when that button is clicked rapidly. Fixed a problem where the embed viewer incorrectly showed a link to the interactive viewer on mobile. Fixed a problem in the interactive viewer where seeking didn t work properly in Safari. Modified old versions of Safari (9 and earlier) to default to Flash playback to workaround problems in Safari s ability to handle HLS streams natively. Added logging to the interactive viewer to assist in diagnosing reported issues with stream synchronization. The HTML Editor now supports embedding a Youtube video within a Panopto session. Users embedding the video will have the option of specifying a start and end time for the Youtube video and can control whether playback controls are visible to viewers. Fixed an issue where uploading PPT files in the HTML Editor would fail of the user was not licensed to upload media files. Fixed an issue where the Advanced Editor was incorrectly offered when users browsed to the HTML Editor while a session was processing and not yet ready for editing. Fixed a problem where the HTML Editor could not handle the case of a stream being deleted from a session in the VCMS while the HTML Editor is actively editing that session. Fixed a problem where simultaneously editing a session with the HTML Editor and the Advanced editor could lead to conflicting edits on the session. Remote Recorder Management Added two new Remote Recorder monitoring features and created new admin settings to control all Remote Recorder Monitoring features, including the recipients of the monitoring alerts. (Note this shipped to the cloud in an April service update.) Two of the monitoring features are pre-existing and their default settings have not changed. To control whether these are on or off use: Scheduled Recording Past Due Notifications Enabled (default true to match current behavior) Scheduled Recording At Risk Alerts Enabled (default true to match current behavior) Two of the monitoring features are new, and are off by default for all customers. Remote Recorder Downtime Alerts Enabled (default false ) When true, if a remote recorder has been offline for more time than specified by the Remote Recorder Downtime Tolerance setting, an alert will be fired. Primary Resource Down Alerts Enabled (default false )

4 Integrations When true, if a remote recorder s primary device has been offline for more time than specified by the Remote Recorder Primary Device Downtime Tolerance setting, an alert will be fired. When an alert is fired, the new Remote Recorder Notification Recipients setting determines who will receive that alert. The options are: Site Administrators -- all administrators of the Panopto site. Remote Recorder Administrators -- only users explicitly granted the Remote Recorder Administrator privilege for the relevant remote recorder will receive notifications Mailing List -- all addresses listed in the new Remote Recorder Mailing List setting will receive the alerts. Added support for parent folder for all integrations. New Integrations now require setting a parent folder for course folders. Added support for the LTI Content-Item spec, allowing more flexible integrations with systems that desire to embed individual Panopto sessions and grant access rights to users that can view the embedded location. Added support for LTI links from Moodle (requires new block). Added APIs to support Moodle content migration from the old block to the new block. Moved the LTI username parameter from a site-wide setting to an identity provider setting, allowing multiple integrations on the same site to use different username parameters in LTI requests. Added the ability for Moodle to report the current block version to the Panopto server for display in the identity providers page. (Requires new block.) Viewing statistics Changed the analytics charts to use HTML5 (the previous charts required Flash). Public API Added new APIs to allow for more sophisticated room control integrations. Enhanced the OpenSearch integration to provide access to Panopto s timestamped search results. Viewer optimization Enhanced the Kollective integration to support Citrix VDI environments. [beta] Updated the Kollective integration to support Kollective client version Client Applications Panopto for Windows Hid the Capture Computer Audio feature by default. It can be enabled by a UX setting. Ensured that web service calls are retried in cases of temporary server failure. Fixed a problem where signing in with Sakai showed the user a warning. Added an option (off by default) to automatically delete recordings after upload is complete.

5 Added an option to allow uploads of previously recorded sessions to continue in the background while recording the next session. Modified the integration with Microsoft Powerpoint to reduce failure rates on API calls from the Panopto application. Made improvements to SSL uploading. Fixed a problem where the Join button was not available for a folder if there are no open sessions at the time the folder was chosen. Fixed a problem where the servername was not correctly populated for the Panopto for Windows Zip (non-installed version). Updated the setting that controls max recording length from 24 hours to 12 hours. Panopto for Mac Made improvements to SSL uploading. Remote Recorder application Made improvements to SSL uploading. Ensured that web service calls are retried in cases of temporary server failure. This ensures admins do not need to take manual action in case the server is offline or network is down when recordings complete; those recordings will automatically go online when connectivity to the server is restored. Service Updates Service update Fixed an issue preventing Silverlight-based playback in some browsers. Fixed an issue with stream sync when exiting full-screen mode in the interactive viewer. Fixed an issue with highlighting the current folder in the browse section of the VCMS. Service update Added a feature to allow identity providers to be hidden from the sign-in options. Simplified the sign-in process if only one identity provider is available. Made minor usability improvements to the navigation bar. Fixed a problem where captions were sometimes shown in duplicate. Fixed a problem where the editor sometimes failed to correctly preview edits when there were multiple primary streams. Fixed a problem where copying a session did not copy the audio podcast. Service update Panopto for Mac Fixed an issue in the folder browsing interface where the names of private folders would incorrectly display with the text Private even if site was configured to show private folder names. 6 Modified My Folders in the navigation bar to always start with the folder hieararchy fully expanded. Fixed an issue where the search box in the folder browsing interface of the navigation bar would sometimes incorrectly show the clear button and the loading indicator. Fixed an issue in the interactive viewer where quizzes, youtube videos, and other embedded URLs could sometimes fail to show when on hardware that was extremely resource constrained. Service update Improved the performance of the editor for sessions with large numbers of captions or slides. Fixed a problem where creating a splice in the advanced editor could cause quizzes to be incorrectly removed from the viewer. Fixed a problem where viewer statistics charts did not show in Firefox. Fixed a problem where quizzes and ASR captions were not copied when a session was copied. Fixed a problem where content embedding was not working properly in Sakai. Service update Fixed an issue where live webcasts in the interactive viewer were incorrectly using flash for playback instead of HTML5. Service update Panopto for Mac Fixed an issue of the warning message in SSOsign-in screen with Canvas. Service update Fixed an issue where copied sessions lost their ASR results, leading to an incomplete search index.
