4 PUBLISHER BASICS Creating a text box Open Publisher and select a BLANK document Click the INSERT tab then click DRAW TEXT BOX Click and drag as best you can from top left corner to bottom right corner for where the text will show and release you will see a box appear Change the font size to 72 the click inside the box and type: BOOT CAMP is awesome! Click somewhere else, not in the box, on the page Page 3
5 Adding a picture Click the INSERT tab then click ONLINE PICTURES and search for army boots Select any picture (or two) then click INSERT button Rearrange image and text by clicking and dragging using the FOUR ARROW pointer Resize image and text by clicking and dragging any of the circles around the object Manipulating graphics Right click the photo then left click FORMAT PICTURE from there you can: o add lines, shadows, reflections o change the size, edge o adjust picture color Page 4
6 Wrapping Text Options right click the photo then slide over to WRAP TEXT In line with text treats it like part of the sentence Square keeps text around the picture in square Tight keeps text around the picture shape Through if there is enough room for text it will appear to pass through the picture Top and Bottom no matter the picture size text will only appear above and below the picture Behind Text text will flow over the picture as if it is not there and picture will be behind it In Front of Text text will flow behind the picture and photo will be on top of text covering it up Page 5
7 Create a Watermark using these steps Add TEXT BOX first, completely formatted from placement to font and size ADD PICTURE Resize picture by clicking and dragging handles Placement by moving picture with 4 arrow mouse Picture Tools Format Crop Format Picture Picture Transparency Send to back located on the HOME tab Page 6
8 OUTLOOK Deleting s By SENDER, RECEIVED, ETC 1 o Click on COLUMN to sort o Find the s to be deleted o Click the first one listed o Press and hold the SHIFT key o Click the last one listed this will highlight a block of o Press the DELETE key and voila, gone Various s 2 o Press and hold the CTRL key o Click on various s to be deleted do not release the CTRL key until done o Press DELETE (not backspace) when ready To immediately empty DELETED ITEMS o Right click DELETED ITEM folder o Left click EMPTY FOLDER Page 7
9 Creating a signature added automatically to new s and replies From FILE menu select OPTIONS Select MAIL then click SIGNATURES 1 Click NEW, enter a name then click OK 2 Type signature in box then click SAVE 3 You can create different signatures and set which one is used for NEW MESSAGES and which one is used for REPLIES/FORWARDS don t forget to click OK to save the changes Helpful Hint: Signatures are not kept on the server. You can COPY a signature from a previous in the SENT folder and PASTE it into the EDIT SIGNATURE box You can add a picture o Find a picture via Google o right click picture then left click COPY o click below your signature o press CTRL+V to paste o then resize to fit Page 8
10 Scheduling assistant see available dates and times From HOME tab select NEW MEETING Add o TO o SUBJECT o LOCATION If meeting date and time is not set in stone, then select SCHEDULING ASSISTANT to see availability o Use the horizontal scroll bar to see available dates and time o Click once to set START date and time o Drag right blue line of appointment to set END date and time Who responded Open the Meeting from the calendar Select TRACKING to see responses Page 9
11 Creating a NEW CONTACT GROUP From the HOME tab select NEW CONTACT GROUP 1 Type in a NAME for the group Click ADD MEMBERS then FROM ADDRESS BOOK 2 address book should be set to GLOBAL ADDRESS LIST or ALL USERS Type first name to start searching then double click name to be added 3 Continue until all names have been added then click OK Last, click SAVE & CLOSE to save your new group Page 10
12 SAVING TO A USB DEVICE a few ways to do it Save as File SAVE AS Double click COMPUTER Select THIS PC then find USB device Double click USB device Name document Click SAVE Cut and Paste Open File location Right click file then left click COPY or CUT COPY leaves a copy in original location CUT will remove it from original location Find USB drive found using FILE EXPLORER under THIS PC Right click then left click PASTE Right click then SEND TO Right click a file/folder or select several files/folders using CTRL key slide over to SEND TO left click USB drive Page 11
13 Drag and Drop Open File Explorer Open a 2 nd File Explorer by clicking on FILE then click OPEN NEW WINDOW In one File Explorer locate the file to drag In the 2 nd File Explorer locate the folder to drop Then click and drag the file to the folder and release mouse Options Use the SHIFT key to select a block of files/folders Use the CTRL key to select various files/folders Keyboard shortcuts o CTRL+C for COPY o CTRL+X for CUT o CTRL+V for PASTE Page 12
14 FILE NAMES keep it simple for Refresh or Cloud Storage Length 256 characters including location My file name FUN TECH TIPS is 13 characters including spaces The full name with location is 61 characters C:\Users\taniemckinzie.CLOVISUSD\Documents\FUN TECH TIPS.docx Suggestions: o No characters o o o o Do not start or end your file names with a space, period, hyphen or underline Keep your filenames to a reasonable length, under 31 characters Most operating systems are case sensitive always use lowercase Avoid using spaces and underscores, use a hyphen instead How to modify a file/folder name Open the file location using FILE EXPLORER Right click the file/folder then left click RENAME The filename will be highlighted and now it can be edited When done press the ENTER key to save the changes OR press the ESC key to cancel Page 13
15 How to set Default Browser IE From COG WHEEL in the upper right, select INTERNET OPTIONS Select PROGRAMS tab and left click MAKE INTERNET EXPLORER THE DEFUALT BROWSER Click OK CHROME From THREE BARS in the upper right, select SETTINGS Scroll down to DEFAULT BROWSER and left click MAKE GOOGLE CHROME THE DEFAULT BROWSER EDGE Windows 10 From taskbar click on magnifying glass then search for SETTINGS Select SYSTEM then DEFAULT APPS Select the current web browser and pop window will show a list of options Page 14
16 ZOOM too big, too small, just right IE from COG WHEEL in the upper right ZOOM shows the current settings Slide over to pick a predefined % OR Select CUSTOM and choose your own Chrome Left click THREE BARS in the upper right ZOOM shows the current settings Click the + to move up to the next predefined % OR Click the to move down to the next predefined % Other apps MS Office has a scale in the lower right corner When reading an OUTLOOK the size can be adjusted by using the magnifying glass in the toolbar Page 15
17 WINDOWS 8 OR 8.1 Personalizing Searching Go to the START screen Type personalize the search box will open automatically Select personal your computer From the START screen Type mouse you can search for a key word in a name document this is what I use most Wireless or wired or neither? Wireless icon o Left click icon to see which wireless network computer is connected to OR to disconnect and reconnect when having wireless network issues Wired icon o Left click to check connection status Airplane mode disconnects you from both wireless and wired Page 16
18 GOOGLE SEARCHES First is not always the best Ads Stay away from AD sites AD sites have a little yellow box with AD in the middle AD sites sometimes install spyware, malware or a virus Searching for graphics tips and tricks Open browser Go to google.com Search for what make you happy Click on SEARCH TOOLS SIZE if you need something large for a watermark or wallpaper use LARGER THAN 2 MP COLOR If you do not want to alter the color later, look for a specific color or Black & White TYPE what do you need: clip art or actual photo? Here is my before and after SEARCH TOOLS: 2 MP & Black and White & Line Drawing Page 17
19 SNIPPING TOOL replaces PrintScreen or SnagIt SEARCH for Snipping Tool PIN it to either the START or TASKBAR Now open it! Create a NEW free from, rectangular, window, or full screen snip From here you can highlight, draw, save, copy, or Page 18
20 PASSWORDS Standards, characteristics, frequency CUSD passwords CANNOT contain parts of your name Must be eight in length CANNOT repeat one of the last five passwords Must contain THREE of the FOUR below o UPPERCASE o lowercase o numbers o symbols Helpful Hint: have a favorite password? Just add a something to the beginning or end What does a password change affect? Phones Tablets Webmail Changing passwords at home via webmail Visit webmail.clovisusd.k12.ca.us and log in Click on OPTIONS in the upper right the CHANGE PASSWORD on the left Account lock out only takes 5 from any and all devices Now that our password is used for so many things, it is even easier to lock out our account As soon as your network password has been successfully changed, change it on all other devices used to access or wireless network For wireless connections, FORGET the wireless network and connect back All personal devices connect to CUSD_Guest and once connected you will be prompted for: Username, i.e. FIRSTLAST or you may need to use clovisusd\firstlast Skip ANONYMOUS Password Page 19
21 PORTAL.CUSD.COM the portal allows student password resets for Google and CUSD accounts Go to Log in with CUSD Credentials Search for student using ID number or Name/Teacher tabs GUEST.PORTAL.COM for guest wireless account When Guests visit a CUSD site and need access to the CUSD_Guest wireless network, use the Guest portal Go to guest.cusd.com Log in with your username and password Enter the NEW ACCOUNT Information then click GENERATE ACCOUNT A LOGON ID and PASSWORD will be generated PRINT or the information to the Guest You can look at your SPONSORED ACCOUNTS and DISABLE ACCOUNT when no longer needed RESET PASSWORD if the Guest forgets the password Page 20
22 NETWORK ACCESS FROM HOME Clovis Unified is using CUSD Direct Access, not Cisco VPN When off Clovis Unified wireless network, connect to another wireless network Once connected you should see CUSD DirectAccess connect TROUBLESHOOTING 101 Restart works most of the time Disconnect and reconnect to wireless Change outlets Check brick and cord connection Check network cable Power printer off and on Helpful Hint: When all of the above fail call the helpdesk at or create a ticket for your site tech VIDEO RESOURCES Davis.k12.ut.us Page 21
