Additional Notes VBA Please be aware that while we have fully tested VBA as it relates to our product, Microsoft does not formally support running VBA in an Embedded environment. As such, in the circumstance that a defect is found with respect to VBA, we may not be able to formally address it on the Embedded operating system. That said, GE will provide reasonable efforts to work with our customers to resolve questions or issues encountered. As part of this effort, the troubleshooting phase may include the requirement that the customer stage the problem in a non-windows XP Embedded environment to facilitate isolation and resolution. Terminal Server ifix does not support running a Terminal Server on the Windows XP Embedded operating system. However, Windows XP

Embedded users can connect through RDP 6.0 to another computer running a Terminal Server node on a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 or Windows 2008 computer. Toolkits ifix does not support running programs created with either the Easy Database Access (EDA) toolkit or System Extension Toolkit (STK) on the Windows XP Embedded operating system. Enhanced Failover ifix does not support using the Enhanced Failover feature on the Windows XP Embedded operating system.

New Features ifix 5.1, SP1_A IMPORTANT: ifix51_pulse10_sp1_a addresses an upgrade issue that occurred when installing ifix51_pulse10_sp1. Service Pack SP1_A contains all of the same features and fixes as SP1. Windows 7 Support Service Pack 1 for ifix 5.1 and Pulse 1.0 provides support for Microsoft Windows 7 x86 (32-bit), Professional or Ultimate Edition. Windows 7 x64 (64-bit) is not supported. If you upgraded to Windows 7 from a previous version of Windows, for the best performance, it is strongly recommended that you scale your hardware appropriately. Refer to the System Req. tab for more information on hardware requirements, or to the Microsoft web site for

Windows 7 only requirements: 7/get/system-requirements.aspx. When using ifix in Microsoft Windows 7 x86, please be aware of the following limitations when working with these products: ifix WebSpace The ifix WebSpace Server is not supported on Windows 7. ifix WebSpace browser sessions can run on Windows 7 on the supported versions of Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox. Proficy Historian To run Historian with ifix on Windows 7, you must have Proficy Historian version 4.0 installed, along with SP1_A (ifix51_pulse10_sp1_a). Proficy Plant Applications To use the Proficy Plant Applications Dynamos with ifix on Windows 7, you must have the Proficy Plant Applications Dynamo

SIM. It is recommended that you install SP1_A first, before the SIM. Proficy Change Management Running the Proficy Change Management (PCM) Server or the Scheduler on ifix 5.1 SCADA nodes is not supported on Microsoft Windows 7 at the time of this service pack release. However, refer to the documentation provided with most recent version of Proficy Change Management for the supported operating system environments. Proficy Portal Control For best performance in Windows 7, it is recommended that when you insert Proficy Portal control into your ifix picture, that you do not insert any other ActiveX controls into the same picture. Terminal Server For Windows 7, the ifix SCADA cannot reside on the same computer as the Terminal Server. However, iclients in Windows 7 can

connect through RDP 6.0 to a Terminal Server on another machine. Drivers from GE Intelligent Platforms The following drivers are supported on Windows 7: EGD, MBE, OPC, and IGS. Drivers and DAC If you want to run a driver on the Microsoft Windows 7 operating system, be sure to check with the vendor of your driver software to see if your driver supports Windows 7 x86. Your driver must support Windows 7 x86 to interface with the Discover and Auto Configure (DAC) application on Windows 7. GE Intelligent Platforms OPC Client Driver If you want to run the OPC Client driver on the Microsoft Windows 7 x86 operating system, be sure to check with the vendor of your OPC Server software to see if your OPC Server supports Windows 7 x86. If you want to run the OPC Client driver as a service,

ifix must also run as a service. Likewise, if you want to run ifix as a service, the OPC Client driver must run as a service. You cannot run one as a service, without the other also running as a service. Third-Party OPC Servers Compatibility cannot be guaranteed for all third-party OPC Servers on Windows 7 x86. ifix was tested with the OPC20iFIX.exe (Intellution.OPCiFIX) Server an OPC 2.05a compliant Data Server. PMON The GE Intelligent Platforms diagnostic utility PMON.exe does not work when ifix is running as a service in Windows 7. Silent and Quiet Installs ifix cannot currently be installed silently or quietly on a Windows 7 machine.

Proficy Historian 4.0 Support Service Pack 1 provides support for Proficy Historian 4.0 in ifix 5.1. The ifix 5.1 install DVD does not include the Proficy Historian 4.0 install; it includes the Proficy Historian 3.5 install. To install Historian 4.0, you will need the Proficy Historian 4.0 DVD. CAUTION: You must use Historian 3.5 or later with ifix 5.1. Using other versions of Historian will cause your system to act unexpectedly. When using ifix 5.1 with Historian 4.0, it is recommended that you use no more than 100,000 Historian tags per server, as was the limit for Historian 3.5. If you have more than 100,000 tags configured, retrieval of tag lists, such as when you browse historical data, may result in unpredictable behavior and ifix may stop responding.

IMPORTANT: For more information on features that are new for ifix 5.1, select "5.1" from the Version number drop-down list at the top of the page. New Features ifix 5.1, Base Proficy Historian 3.5 Support ifix 5.1 includes support for Proficy Historian 3.5. If you want to use Proficy Historian with ifix 5.1, you will need to upgrade your Historian Server. The Historian upgrade and install is included directly on the ifix 5.1 install DVD. CAUTION: You must use Historian 3.5 with ifix 5.1. Using other versions of Historian will cause your system to act unexpectedly.

IMPORTANT: If using ifix with Proficy Historian, be aware that if you later choose to remove Proficy Historian from the Add or Remove Programs in the Control Panel, do not remove Microsoft system files if prompted to do so. This could cause critical operating system issues. Historical Data Visualization ifix works with the Proficy Historian 3.5 to allow you easy access and visualization of your historical data. With ifix you can create pictures that include animations or charts which display the historical data. Using the pictures you can analyze your data and identify trends. Historical Datalinks Historical Datalinks now support more Historical Modes than CurrentValue. You can now use the following Historical Modes:

Sample, Average, High, Low, Interpolated, Standard Deviation, and Total. You can also specifiy the start date and time, the duration, the update rate, and the time zone. In addition, you can require that the time stamp appear with the Historical Datalink or be hidden. Historical Animations You can animate all objects using historical data. Using the Historical Properties tab on the Advanced Animations dialog box, you can specify the start date and time, the time zone, the duration, the update rate and the historical mode for your animation. The data for the animations is fetched from Proficy Historian. For information on how to add a historical datalink, refer to the "Adding Historical Datalinks to Pictures" topic in the "Creating Picture" e-book. For information on how to add a historical animation, refer to the "Experts

Summary" topic in the "Creating Picture" e- book, and click the link for the animation you want to add. Keys, Licensing, and Upgrading The Enhanced Failover feature is a keyed option in ifix 5.1. You must purchase the additional Enhanced Failover option (SCADA Failover) if you plan to use Enhanced Failover in ifix 5.1. If you had purchased the SCADA Failover option in ifix 5.0, your key upgrade will include the SCADA Failover option. If you used the Failover option prior to ifix 5.0, you will need to purchase the new Failover option to enable this feature. If you are upgrading and you do not have an M4 license key, you must upgrade your key in order to use ifix 5.1.

Maintenance Mode for Enhanced Failover from Remote iclients Maintenance Mode allows you to temporarily suspend synchronization between the two SCADA nodes, so that you can make changes to your database while the Scan, Alarm, and Control (SAC) program is still running. For example, you could use Maintenance Mode to add a database block (using a pre-existing driver I/O address) or import a database.csv file, while SAC is running. Driver modifications are not recommended in Maintenance Mode. Maintenance Mode always runs on the primary node. In the previous ifix release, you could only access Maintenance Mode from the SCADA Synchronization Monitor (SCADASyncMonitor.exe). However, the SCADA Synchronization Monitor is unavailable for use remotely, on the iclient, because you can only access the SCADA Synchronization Monitor from a primary node

in an Enhanced Failover pair. ifix 5.1 provides you with the additional ability to access Maintenance Mode from remote iclients, through the SCADASync[] tag. The A_MAINTENANCEMODE or F_MAINTENANCEMODE fields in a SCADASync[] tag allow you to do this. From a remote iclient, you can use the A_MAINTENANCEMODE or F_MAINTENANCEMODE fields in the SCADASync[] tag within a datalink in an ifix picture or references from within an EDA application. A security area can be assigned for Maintenance Mode users, for added precaution. For more information, search the e-books for the "Maintenance Mode from Remote iclients" topic.

Enhanced Failover and Upgrading If upgrading from a previous version of ifix with failover enabled, and you want to use the Enhanced Failover feature in ifix 5.1, be aware that: The Enhanced Failover feature is a keyed option in ifix 5.1. You must purchase the additional Enhanced Failover option (SCADA Failover) if you plan to use SCADA Failover in ifix 5.1. If you had purchased the SCADA Failover option in your previous version of ifix, your key upgrade will include the SCADA Failover option. If you purchased the Failover feature when you bought a previous version of ifix, then your ifix.plic license file update will enable the Enhanced Failover option automatically. Be aware, when you use the Proficy License Viewer in ifix 5.1, that the part

description changed from "ACK Failover" (in ifix releases before ifix 5.0) to "SCADA Failover" (in ifix releases after ifix 5.0). Before installing ifix, it is recommended that you confirm that the SCADA Failover option is enabled on your key. ifix 5.1 software checks the Enhanced Failover option at startup. Without this option enabled, the Enhanced Failover functionality will not work. An error message appears if you try to run ifix with the SCADA Failover feature. If your 5.1 SCADA key does not show the SCADA Failover functionality enabled, and you purchased this additional option, please contact you sales representative before upgrading. When you upgrade your ifix SCADA node to ifix 5.1, you will need to make configuration changes on your ifix 5.1 SCADA nodes for the Enhanced Failover feature to work properly. For example, the Data Sync Transport

dialog box in the System Configuration Utility (SCU) is in ifix 5.0 and greater. It requires that you enter the partner's IP address on both the primary and secondary SCADA nodes. You can choose to upgrade your iclent (View) nodes with Failover enabled to ifix 5.1, or to continue using your iclent (View) nodes with Failover enabled from any previous version of ifix. There are no additional steps to configure the Enhanced Failover feature on the iclients if you already configured them in previous releases. The Alarm Acknowledgement synchronization feature from previous ifix versions is NOT supported on SCADA nodes upgraded to 5.1. The Alarm Acknowledgement functionality is replaced by the database synchronization and alarm area files provided in ifix 5.1 It required that you use a dedicated network between the primary and secondary SCADA nodes for dedicated

SCADA-to-SCADA traffic. If the SCADA nodes are physically close to each other, then a crossover cable can be used. It is strongly recommended that the network components (LAN adapters, hubs, switches, cables, etc.) used for SCADA-to-SCADA connection of the SCADA pair support 1 Gigabit Ethernet. This allows for a higher rate of speed for data transfer between the primary and secondary SCADA nodes. In ifix 5.1, you will need to configure a primary and a "secondary" SCADA node. One SCADA will be in Active mode (processing data and alarms) while the other will be in Standby mode. This is unlike previous versions of ifix, where you configured a primary and "backup" SCADA node and both nodes were processing data and alarms. The concept of the SCADA pair still exists in ifix 5.1, but GE Intelligent Platforms does not support using your standby SCADA as a development machine in

ifix 5.1 (for example, for database or picture development), although there is a maintenance mode that allows you to upgrade your SCADA configuration without requiring a SAC restart. Stratus solutions will continue to be supported in ifix 5.1. Any Stratus SCADA nodes that you want to upgrade to use Enhanced Failover will require configuration changes on your ifix 5.1 SCADA nodes for the Enhanced Failover feature to work properly (the same configuration changes as the non- Stratus nodes). Custom applications or scripts that were written to synchronize databases or alarms on previous versions of ifix will no longer be required with Enhanced Failover enabled. You should remove these custom applications or scripts from your failover configuration.

The following steps describe how to upgrade your failover system. To configure your ifix SCADA nodes after an upgrade, if failover was used in a release prior to ifix 5.0: 1. On the primary SCADA node, on the Start menu, point to Programs, then Proficy HMI/SCADA - ifix, and then System Configuration. The System Configuration Utility (SCU) appears. 2. On the Configure menu, click SCADA. The SCADA Configuration dialog box appears. 3. In the Failover area, select the Enable check box if it is not already selected. 4. In the Node area, verify or select the node type: Primary or Secondary. 5. In the SCADA Name field, verify or enter the name of your partner SCADA node.

6. Click the Data Sync Transport button. The Data Sync Transport dialog box appears. 7. From the Description list, select the LAN adapter(s) to use for data synchronization between the SCADA pair, then select the Enable check box. Make sure that the LAN adapters you will not be using for data synchronization are not enabled. 8. In the Partner's Address field, enter the IP address of the partner node. 9. Use the default settings for the rest of the fields. NOTE: The Bandwidth Limit field in the Data Sync Transport dialog box allows you to enter a value to throttle down or limit the synchronization rate or bandwidth used. It is recommended when using a corporate, non-dedicated or shared network (10/100 or 1GB), that you "throttle" network traffic to limit

bandwidth that the data synchronization process will consume. 10. Click OK. 11. Repeat steps 1-10 on the secondary SCADA node. Global Time Control for Run Mode Viewing The Global Time Control helps you to analyze multiple sets of data as represented in the pictures you created in run mode. It does so by time-synchronizing all open pictures, so that you can view what is happening in each of the pictures during the same time period. This feature makes it easier to visualize how the system is working as a whole and the impact of components on each other. With this knowledge, you can asses how your systems are performing at any single point in time, allowing you to locate inefficiencies within the

system, therefore leading to process improvement. For more information on the Global Time Control, search the e-books for "Global Time Control". New Chart Object ifix 5.1 includes a new additional chart object: XY Chart: displays the relationship between two types of data. NOTE: The information displayed in the new chart objects is not enlarged. The slopes represent the actual data; they are not enlarged or exaggerated.

Inserting an XY Chart in the WorkSpace To access the XY chart from the WorkSpace Ribbon view, on the Insert tab, in the Charts group, click the XY chart. To access the XY chart from WorkSpace Classic view, on the Insert menu, click Charts, and then select the XY chart. For more information on XY charts, refer to the "Using Charts to Analyze Process Trends" section in the Trending Historical Data manual of the electronic books. Chart Enhancements Auto Adjust Interval Enhanced charts using historical data sources have a new option, Auto Adjust Interval, which is enabled by default.

This option causes the Intervals on the Data Source's Time Tab to automatically adjust based on the Duration and Number of Points defined on the General Tab. This results in an evenly spaced data display. When this option is enabled, the Interval field on the Time Tab does not display. When using a historical data source, the Interval will now be initially defaulted to a time that will result in evenly spaced data based on the Duration and Number of Points instead of the previous default of 00:00:10.000, which was used in ifix5.0 Enhanced charts. If Auto Adjust Interval is disabled, you can override the calculated Interval and enter a different Interval. However, if you enter an Interval that results in more samples being returned from Historian than the Number of Points specified on the General Tab, the Interval will be still be adjusted so that the returned samples equals the Number of Points defined.

Historical data sources in charts upgraded from ifix 5.0 will also have the Auto Adjust Interval option, but it will be disabled by default. Therefore, the currently defined Interval will not be automatically adjusted. However, any new data sources added to the upgraded charts will have the Auto Adjust Interval option enabled by default. Trend Mode for Line Charts For line charts, there is a new historical mode, trend. The trend historical mode returns the raw data for the minimum and maximum values for each interval. Time Cursor Tool Tips This new feature allows you to display the time cursor tool tips for the chart data source at run time.

Advanced Graphics Enabling advanced graphics allows you to improve the visual quality of the chart by permitting the use of bitmap/gradient styles, drop-shadow, 3D effects, a variety of plotting style lines and improved font appearance. For more information on charts, refer to the "Using Charts to Analyze Process Trends" section in the Trending Historical Data manual of the electronic books. Plant Applications Dynamos Proficy Plant Applications Dynamos allow you to monitor your Plant Applications in the WorkSpace. Using the Dynamos simplifies the process of establishing a connection between the Proficy Plant Application Server and the Client as well creating a display of the desired information. To get started, just drag and drop one of the

Plant Applications Dynamos in the WorkSpace. You are then prompted for configuration information. After answering a few questions, you are ready to go. To use the Plant Applications Dynamos, you must have a Plant Applications client installed on the same system as ifix. ifix includes the following Plant Applications Dynamos: DynamoPAALC DynamoPAALM DynamoPADTN DynamoPADTP DynamoPAGVW DynamoPANPT DynamoPAOVW DynamoPASOE DynamoPASVW DynamoPAWASTE DynamoPAWP For more information on what each dynamo does, refer to the topic "Adding a Proficy Plant Applications Dynamo" in the e-books.

Discovery and Auto-Assembly Component (DAC) Update The IGS Discovery Agent, version or higher, now includes support for tag creation in over 90 new protocols. Windows Server 2008 Support ifix 5.1 provides support for Microsoft Windows Server 2008 (32-bit only), Service Pack 2, Standard or Enterprise Edition. Since Windows Server 2008 has continuous updates, you should run the Windows update feature to get the latest software. For more information Windows Server 2008 and ifix, refer to the "ifix and Windows Server 2008" topic in the ifix Getting Started guide.

ifix Automation Reference (FIXVBA.chm) Update The following object was added to the ifix Automation Reference: XYChart The associated properties and methods for this new object were added to this reference document as well. Release Notes If You Are a First Time User... Run in Demo Mode to Experiment with ifix Projects First If this is your first time using the Proficy HMI/SCADA - ifix product, try using ifix in

Demo mode. In Demo mode, you can run ifix applications for 2 hours. To start in Demo mode, start ifix from command line using the /t parameter, like this: Launch.exe /t Where to Go First for More Information Check out the Getting Started with ifix guide first. This guide contains detailed information about installing and upgrading ifix, as well as supported configurations. 51 How to Install Options Such as FIX Desktop If you want to install FIX Desktop, you must select the Complete or Custom install option during the product install. This allows you to install the FIX Desktop applications. By default, these applications are not installed. If you do not do a Complete or Custom install, you can run the ifix install at a later time, and add the component. Licensing on Microsoft Common Controls Installed with ifix ifix installs Microsoft common controls as part of the ifix installation. These controls are used internally by ifix. You cannot use them directly unless you have installed a product that provides the license to these controls, such as Microsoft Visual C++ or Visual Basic or have an Microsoft Office product installed. Otherwise, you can download the appropriate distribution package from Microsoft's Knowledge Base.

Installation and Key Issues Installing as an Administrator You must install ifix with a local Windows user account with administrator rights. See your Windows manuals or online Help for information on creating this account. Installing ifix on a Different Computer than the Proficy Portal Server If you are using both Proficy ifix and Proficy Portal, it is recommended that your SCADA server is run on a separate machine than your Proficy Portal server. Running both a SCADA server and a Proficy Portal server on the same machine is not supported for Proficy Portal 2.5 and higher. If you are running Proficy Portal and ifix on the same machine, Tomcat.exe may crash

when resetting the cache of an ifix data source when the local node has been shut down. This issue does not occur when the SCADA server is remote. Installing ifix You must use the USB key that is included with your ifix software in order to access all the components of the ifix software you purchased. Without a Proficy HMI/SCADA - ifix key, you can run ifix applications for 2 hours in Demo mode. IMPORTANT: Do not remove the USB hardware key from your node while ifix is running. If you do, you may need to restart ifix. You may also damage the USB key if you remove it while ifix is running. On Windows Vista, if you remove the key, key errors are logged to the Event Viewer instead of appearing as error messages. IMPORTANT: If you want to use Historian

with ifix, be sure to read the "Notes on Configuring Proficy Historian and ifix" on the New Features tab first. To install the product and the USB key: 1. Log in as a user with Administrator rights. 2. Shut down any Proficy applications or services that run on startup. For instance, if you have Proficy Historian Collectors configured to start when you start Windows, use the Services window to shut them down. 3. Follow the steps on your screen. For detailed information on installing your ifix product, see the "Installing the ifix Software" section in the Getting Started with ifix guide. 4. After the install completes: o If you have a new USB key, power off the computer and insert your USB key into the appropriate port.

o If you have an older key that you are updating, use the update file and follow the instructions from GE Intelligent Platforms to update your USB key. 5. Make sure that you restart your computer after you finish the install steps. NOTE: At this time, GE Intelligent Platforms does not support USB keys connected through an external USB hub. Right-click the My Computer icon on your desktop and select Manage from the right-click menu. 2. Select Device manager from the System Tools tree.

3. Select Universal Serial Bus controllers from the right pane of the Computer Management dialog box. 4. Right-click USB Token. Choose Uninstall from the right-click menu. 5. Click OK to confirm uninstall. 6. Remove the USB key from your computer and reboot your computer. 7. Continue the correct installation using the procedure in the previous section. NOTE: If you installed the USB key before installing ifix, a dialog box requesting USB drivers appears. Cancel this dialog box, and then follow the steps above to uninstall the incorrectly installed USB key. The ifix USB Key and HASP UDP Broadcasting The USB key used by ifix Licensing may broadcast over UDP. ifix and other products from GE Intelligent Platforms do not use this UDP broadcast.

You can stop the broadcast service and still use ifix safely. To do this: 1. Shut down ifix. 2. From the Start menu, select Run. The Run dialog box appears. 3. In the edit field, enter SERVICES.MSC. The Services window appears. 4. Locate the HASP License Manager in the list. 5. Double-click the HASP License Manager item. The HASP License Manager Properties dialog box appears. 6. In the Startup type drop-down, select Manual or Disabled. 7. Click Stop to stop the Service. Installing ifix with Terminal Services Enabled IMPORTANT: Be aware that all Terminal Server client users should be a member of the Remote Desktop Users group.

ifix Install Displays a Dialog Box with a Red X If you attempt to install ifix on a Terminal Server machine, and you do not have at least Power User privileges, an empty dialog box with a red 'X' might appear during the installation. This dialog box is the only indication that the installation failed. To install ifix, follow these steps: 1. Log on to the Terminal Server as a member of the local machine's Administrator group. 2. Double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon from the Control Panel. 3. Select Add New Programs. 4. Choose to add the new program from a DVD. 5. Insert the ifix installation DVD. 6. Click Next in the Install Program from the DVD dialog box.

7. Use the Browse button to find Setup.exe on the ifix installation DVD. 8. Double-click Setup.exe. The installation program begins. 9. Click Next. The Product Install dialog box prompts you to choose which product to install. 10. Click Install ifix. 11. Continue through the installation and choose to restart the machine later. 12. Click Finish in the Add/Remove Programs dialog box. 13. Restart Windows. Windows Regional Settings Notes How to Properly Disable Daylight Savings If you want to disable daylight savings, you must synchronize the settings in the Control Panel with the WorkSpace. If you do not, the chart data may be off by one hour. Therefore, when you clear the Automatically adjust clock for daylight saving changes check box (located

in the Time Zone tab of the Date/TimeProperties dialog box in the Control Panel), you must also clear the corresponding Adjust for Daylight Saving Time check box (located in the Chart/Time tab of the Chart Configuration dialog box). Replacing Defective Keys Defective keys cause ifix to generate the following error message when it starts or when you start an application: ERROR - MISSING SECURITY KEY OR FILE The message may also indicate that the USB key is not securely installed. Be sure to check the connection before assuming your hardware key is defective. GE Intelligent Platforms replaces defective keys as quickly as possible. To obtain a replacement USB key, call your local GE Intelligent Platforms technical

support representative. The support representative will instruct you to FAX a completed copy of a Merchandise Return Authorization form. On receipt of the form, GE Intelligent Platforms can program a new USB key and send it to you overnight. When you receive the USB key, you must return the old one along with a copy of the form sent with the new USB key. GE Intelligent Platforms invoices for defective USB keys that are not returned. Upgrade Notes Before You Upgrade or Reinstall... If you are upgrading an ifix computer with the Proficy Change Management 5.6 Client installed, and want to continue running 5.6, install SIM 8 on the client computer before upgrading to ifix 5.1. This will allow SIMs to be installed easily in the future.

Before you upgrade the ifix product installed on your computer, make sure you shut down all Proficy applications. It is important that no Proficy products are running when you run the ifix installation program. IMPORTANT: If you are upgrading from a previous version of ifix with failover enabled, and you want to use the Enhanced Failover feature in ifix 5.1, there are a number of issues that you must be aware of. For detailed information and steps describing how to upgrade your failover system, see the "Enhanced Failover and Upgrading" section on the New Features tab. Save copies of your existing.ini files with your application preferences and any custom files you create; customized files may be overwritten during an upgrade. As such, you may need to integrate your custom changes into the newer versions of these files after you upgrade. Back up your existing ifix projects. This

includes the files in your LOCAL, Config Files Backup, PIC, and PDB folders. It is also recommended that you create a backup copy of your Alarm ODBC configuration file(s). Export a report of your system configuration (SCU), for reference. (In the SCU, on the File menu, click Report.) Export a report of your security configuration, for reference. (In the Security Configuration application, on the File menu, click Export.) If you have an application created by an Integration Toolkit, Database Dynamo Toolkit, or System Extension Toolkit from ifix 2.5 or earlier, and you want to use this application with ifix 5.1, do not uninstall ifix. You must install ifix 5.1 over your existing ifix configuration. Your toolkit application will not run if you uninstall your previous version of ifix.

Be sure to obtain any toolkit updates that you need, prior to installing ifix. For instance, if you have previously installed the ifix Productivity Pack for Allen Bradley, you must get the updated version prior to upgrading to ifix 5.1. CAUTION: If you choose to integrate Historian with ifix, make sure that your database tags have unique names. If both your ifix and Historian databases have the same tag name, when you import an ifix tag into the Historian database, the Historian tag will be overwritten with the tag of the same name from the ifix database. For more information see Using ifix with Proficy Historian and Troubleshooting Proficy Historian and ifix. Upgrade Steps To upgrade to the latest version of ifix, perform the following steps:

1. Confirm that you backed up all the applicable files. Refer to the Before You Upgrade or Reinstall... section above for more details. 2. Shut down any Proficy applications or services that are running. For instance, if you have Proficy Historian Collectors configured to start when you start Windows, use the Services window to shut them down. 3. Shut down the DEP (Data Execution Protection) feature. One way to do this is from the Control Panel, access the System Properties. Select the Advanced tab, and click the Settings button in the Performance area. On the Data Execution Protection tab, select the "Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only" check box. 4. Run the ifix product install. A message box appears asking you if you want to upgrade your system. 5. Click Yes to continue. 6. Follow the instructions on your screen.

Windows Upgrade Notes For more information on Windows upgrade options and instructions, please refer to the Microsoft web site. The Database and the Upgrade Be aware that when you upgrade to ifix 5.1, the file size of your process database file will increase. When you upgrade your database, the high and low engineering units (EGU) fields are converted from single precision to double precision floats. This means the degree of accuracy (the Epsilon value) changes from +/_ to +/_ If you are using extreme ranges (very large or very low values) for your EGU limits, you may possibly experience issues after an upgrade. To resolve these issues, open the Database Manager, export your database and then reimport it. This procedure resets the block

values. DDA Drivers and the Upgrade If you are using DDA drivers, such as ROC, BR3 or MBR, you must reinstall them after upgrade. If the driver installation files are unavailable, you can use a copy of your existing FIX.INI file to compare to the one created after the upgrade. Then, copy the missing lines from your old FIX.INI file to your new FIX.INI file. Custom *.fxg Files and the Upgrade Be aware that if you use custom.fxg files with ifix and you choose to upgrade, you will need to re-register these.fxg files after the ifix upgrade. For more information on how to reregister the WorkSpace, refer to the "Adding Files to the System Tree" topic in the Mastering ifix e-book.

Notes on Upgrading from ifix 3.0 or Earlier, with Proficy Portal Installed If you are running Proficy Portal and ifix version 3.0 or earlier on the same machine, and you uninstall ifix to upgrade, the Proficy Portal licensing software must be reinstalled. After you ugrade ifix, run the Proficy Portal setup and select the Repair option (then follow the remaining installation instructions). Notes on Upgrading from ifix 2.5 or Earlier If you are upgrading from ifix 2.5 or earlier, you must purchase a new GE Intelligent Platforms key and remove your licensing files before you install the newest version of ifix. To update your USB key licensing files: 1. Double-click Add/Remove Programs in your Control Panel.

2. Select the Sentinel System Driver from the list of currently-installed programs, if listed, and then click Remove. o If the Sentinel System Driver is not listed, you may have implemented the Windows rollback feature to restore your registry to a previous state. This process does not remove files, and the Sentinel System Driver will not install over existing o files. The sentinel.sys file must be removed from your computer before you can proceed to install ifix; this step does not ensure that the sentinel.sys file is removed from your computer. You must manually delete the sentinel.sys file if it remains on your computer. 3. Delete sentinel.sys, located in this path, if it exists on your computer: C:\WINNT\system32\drivers 4. Restart your computer.

5. Insert the ifix Installation disk and install ifix. Issues With Older Keys If you plan on running FIXSRV.EXE on a fast computer, be aware that there is an issue with the Aladdin HASP USB Key (M1 key) occasionally not being found. To fix this problem: 1. Click the Start button, and then click Run. The Run dialog box appears. 2. Enter regedit in the Open field. 3. Click OK. The Registry Editor appears. 4. Open the following key folder: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.iekey. 5. Create a new DWORD Value called retry. 6. Double-click the retry DWORD. 7. Enter a number greater than 180 (3 minutes) in the Value data field. This number represents the number of seconds to wait before retrying the key.

8. Select Decimal as the Base value type. 9. Click OK. Restoring the Settings in the ifix.ini Files As you install ifix, the product install program places a new version of the startup control file, FIX.INI, into your ifix Local folder. The previous version of this file is copied to the Config Files Backup folder, along with the other configuration files. If you configured Database Dynamos, also known as loadable blocks, or other custom programs to run as part of ifix startup, you should compare the new FIX.INI file in the Local folder against the FIX.INI file stored in the Config Files Backup folder. If you find any changes between the two files, add the necessary lines to the FIX.INI stored in the Local path. Additionally, you should restore other.ini

files as necessary, using the same process. Upgrading Database Dynamos Database Dynamos, also known as loadable blocks, will require updates to work with ifix 5.1. If you have old Database Dynamos on your system, the ifix install program will detect them, and generate a warning message. This includes any Database Dynamos that you downloaded from the GE Intelligent Platforms web site, or installed from the Allen-Bradley Productivity Pack CD before you installed ifix 5.1. The GE Intelligent Platforms web site contains updated versions of the database dynamos supplied by GE Intelligent Platforms. To obtain updated version of other dynamos, contact the vendor of that dynamo. To obtain the current version of the Database Dynamo Toolkit, contact your local ifix sales representative.

Upgrading Application Toolkit files If you have an application created by an Integration Toolkit, Database Dynamo Toolkit, or System Extension Toolkit from ifix 2.5 or earlier, and you want to use this application with ifix 5.1, do not uninstall ifix. You must install ifix 5.1 over your existing ifix configuration. After installing ifix, rebuild your existing applications with the newest toolkit available to ensure compatibility with ifix 5.1. Using Terminal Server Clients with FIX32 and Pre-iFIX 5.1 SCADA Nodes If you are upgrading from a previous ifix release, take the following information for Terminal Services into consideration: All iclientts users for ifix that connect to a SCADA from a previous ifix release are still required to have unique IP addresses.

Previously released ifix clients, such as ifix 3.0, can take advantage of IP enhancements in current ifix SCADAs, but you must provide a unique node name for the client, along with the unique IP address. For more information on how to setup terminal services, look up "Terminal Server, setup steps, overview" in the online Help index. Using Command Line Parameters to Start ifix 5.1 on a Terminal Server After an Upgrade If you start ifix via the command line when using Terminal Services, be sure that you specify the node name with the /n option when you run the command. This rule is especially important if you upgraded from ifix 3.0 or earlier and did not include the /n option with the command line settings. In the ifix 3.0 release, even though you were
