RS485 daa line 3 - The Ne plus ACU can be used as he converer for a line of Ne plus and Ne classic ACU s. The inerface allows an RS485 daa line o be conrolled by he Ne Server running across a nework. An RS485 daa line has a 1km maximum lengh. This disance can be increased by using Paxon high speed repeaers or by using shorer independan daa lines using muliple connecions conrolled from he same PC. Conrol uni insallaion Wire he componens o he Access Conrol Uni (ACU) as shown on he firs page. up he uni and wai for he OK hearbea. Press he exi buon or in he absence of an exi buon, shor he and exi erminals ogeher. 1 LED will come on and he lock should release. The reader s defaul indicaion has all he LED s on. Access graned is denoed wih a single flashing, Access Denied is a single flashing. Remember, he Ne plus is a combined inerface and an Access Conrol uni. If he inerface is being used, you will need o deec he inerface firs using he procedure on he following page. This is imporan if you are replacing an exising Ne plus. The Replace wizard in he Doors screen does NOT reconfigure he IP address so i mus be done manually. The wizard will hen copy across he user daa. Each ime he uni is powered on, i will run an inernal healh check. During his phase (abou 5 secs) he OK LED will flash quickly before changing o a slower hearbea. Page

Connecing o he PC via he Eherne por The IP address should be assigned a fixed value, or should be given a DHCP reservaion. Unreserved IP addresses issued by DHCP servers are no guaraneed o be consan, leading o poenial failure of communicaion beween Ne sofware and he bridge. To configure he uni, run he Ne Server Configuraion Uiliy (Sar/Programs/Ne) and Click on nodes. Click on;deec and he MAC address of he device(s) will appear in he able. You mus hen use he IP address configuraion ab o manually assign he IP address, subne mask and gaeway. Be aware ha if he IP address ha you give he device is no in he same IP range as he PC, he device will no longer respond unil you connec o i wih a PC ha is in he same IP range. Some firewall/virus proecion sofware and oher wireless hardware can block he IP deecion process. Disable hese and ry o deec he device again. Please conac Technical Suppor if you require furher advice. If you deec he MAC address bu he device now shows No Responding, you mus check he IP address, o make sure i is sill in range wih he PC or nework. If i is no, you should eiher change he IP address of he PC or he IP address of he device so hey are boh again in he same range. r Technical eam can alk you hrough his if you need help. If he MAC address does no appear when you click;deec, ensure ha he following pors are open on all devices beween his uni and he Ne PC:- 11 TCP 3718 UDP Rese - The uni can be reurned o DHCP seings by powering down he uni and linking he Brown and Mauve erminals on reader por. up he uni again and he OK LED wil flash fas for a few seconds. When he OK LED reurns o a seady hearbea, he IP seings will be rese o DHCP. You can now remove he link. If you sill canno deec he MAC address of he device, call our Technical Suppor Help line. The device will beep when deeced by he Ne Server Configuraion Uiliy or when new IP seings are applied. The sounder will also respond o a direc Ping over he nework. This is a feaure o assis wih finding devices hidden from view. When connecing o a WAN or differen subne mask If you are connecing he NeAir Eherne bridge o a remoe subne which is differen from he Ne sofware PC, he sandard deec mechanism canno work across he nework rouers beween hem. The IP address, along wih he correc subne mask and gaeway for he remoe subne have o be se ino he bridge. Eiher do his on he local subne wih he exising Ne PC, or use a PC on he remoe subne once he bridge is insalled. Local configuraion will break he connecion from he Ne PC unil he bridge is physically aken o he remoe subne and insalled here. Page 3

The PC ha has he Ne server insalled mus be able o access he IP address range on he WAN/remoe sie. This may require he rouers and gaeways o be configured beween he neworks. Again, his would be done by he Nework adminisraor of ha sie. Make sure he pors lised above are open on all inermediae rouers. Once insalled, creae a record wih he;add buon (if none was creaed during iniial se up) and you should hen be able o deec is MAC by enering he IP address in he Configuraion screen Ping box. Loopback es The following es should be run if here are problems seing up he IP configuraion of he inerface. This es sends daa o he device and checks his agains he daa i receives back. This confirms ha he nework is working correcly. The Ne server program mus be shu down during his es. Remove any wires from he RS485 daa line connecor and creae a hardwired daa loop as follows. Connec he o Whie/ and o Whie/. To run he es, click he Loopback buon in he advanced secion of he Server Config Uiliy/ Nodes. If he es fails, connec he uni direcly o he PC wih an RJ45 pach and es i again. Should his sill fail, please call Technical Suppor for furher advice. Connecing o he PC or oher ACU s via he RS485 daa connecion 9% of insallaion fauls are caused by wiring errors on he RS485 daa line. Special aenion o geing his righ firs ime saves a lo of ime and effor. END OF LINE TERMINATI SWITCHES. - These should all be excep for hose a boh ends of he daa line. READER & DATA CABLE SCREENS. - Daa screens and spare MUST be conneced hroughou. - and keypad screens where provided should be conneced o he Black () erminal. The daa line mus be wired in a single daisy chain. The daa connecion o he PC may be locaed a any posiion along he daa line. The example below requires he resisors o be a he 1s ACU and also he 3rd ACU. Ne Server Conrol uni RS485 daa line checks down all, USB and RS3 converers (individual and Ne plus). Check he resisance across each daa pair is 6-8 ohms. Check ha here are no daa line o screen shors. Check he screen of he daa is coninuous - his provides he DC sysem reference. Page 4
