Usage Restrictions Your College IT Account & Data Your IT account will be automatically created from data in the college s MIS system. Please report any inaccuracies to IT Services. If you don't use your account for 6 months it will be disabled. If you require access again please contact IT Services. It is important that you keep a copy of your files, as if your account is left idle for 18 months it will be automatically deleted. The items below show your current limitations on our system. These limits are in place to protect the servers from overloading and to help us manage storage requirements. Disk Space 500MB This disk space is available for you to save your work. Please be aware that large numbers of pictures/video take up more space and can be archived to the cloud or USB drive. E-Mail Box 250Mb The allowed storage space in your mailbox includes all of the folders (calendar, deleted items, sent items etc), it is advisable to clear out these folders when you can. To prevent your mailbox from becoming full you should also save large attachments to your home area (My Documents) or better still place them on external storage. Page 2

Wireless network and internet access is widely available at all campuses at all College sites. There are some things you need to know to get the best out of it; What speed should I get? At least 5Mbps you can check this by using SpeedTest.net What blocks are there? To protect you we have a number of web filters in place which will block you from bad and inappropriate material. This logs and moderates internet usage. If you think that a site is incorrectly forbidden email IT Support for our consideration. Choosing Hardware There are currently two main types of wifi these are 2.4Ghz and 5GHz if you can do choose a device with dual band wifi capabilities this should allow faster internet speeds. Our aim is to for all our students to have a good experience with the computer systems so if you are not Please tell us! Page 4

Printing The College uses follow-me printing So you print what you want, visit a printer wave your id card over the card sensor and it will release your print. You purchase Top-Up Printing Credits in the LRC or top up on -line http://webpay.hadlowgroup.ac.uk Black and white A4 Black and white A3 Black and white A5 Colour A4 Colour A3 Colour A5 4p 8p 2p 7p 14p 4p You can check your printing balance by clicking the Papercut icon (bottom right next to the time on your desktop) If there is a problem and your print has not printed or has a fault you can request a full or partial refund via the Papercut system. From the Papercut icon bottom right then click on the Details link, now sign-in to Papercut with your College id and password, now select Recent Print Jobs and from the list click on the problem print select request refund and fill out the following simple form. Mahara is an eportfolio which can be used to store, share and promote your college work. Students can evidence their learning by adding text, image and video content to subject-specific portfolios. It also provides the opportunity to create a digital journal and a CV which could be shared with prospective employers. There is a Mahara link on the homepage of Moodle: moodle.westkentandashford.ac.uk Moodle is our on-line virtual learning environment. It holds course relevant materials. You will be automatically logged in at college. Off campus, log in using your network username & password. After your first login, you should be signed up to your course automatically. If you don t have access, tell your teacher who will contact ILT or email iltdept@westkent.ac.uk There is an app for moodle available for android, windows and ios. Put in https://moodle.westkentandashford.ac.uk as the site address. The majority of students use USB sticks to make copies of their work. They are both cheap and convenient. Please remember they can be temperamental therefore please make sure you backup your work either on your drives provided or another stick. College Web Filter The Internet is an amazing source of information, but, as we all know, can also contain some bad and inappropriate material. So to protect you we have a web filter applied. This logs and moderates internet usage. During the college year IT get handed numerous student USB sticks left in PCs. To assist us returning them to their rightful owner please either name the stick with your student Id or place a file on the stick with your Id in it. Page 6
