The automatic power maagemet selects the most advatageous profiles, or lets you customize the profiles you choose, accordig to your ow eeds, with the goal of exteded battery life. PowerPael has the followig features: Automatic Profile Selectio (APS) based o the curretly active applicatio; Ability to select special Power Profiles maually from the meu; Ability to edit ad create ew profiles; Ability to display detailed battery iformatio; It works i harmoy with your Widows settigs. Activatig PowerPael Whe startig the computer, the PowerPael ico appears i the system tray by default. Whe poitig o the PowerPael ico, you will see a tooltip with the active power maagemet profile. The backup utility helps you create a copy of the data o your hard disk. I the evet that the origial data o your hard disk is accidetally erased or overwritte, or becomes iaccessible because of a hard disk malfuctio, you ca use the copy to restore your lost or damaged data. To create a Emergecy Repair Disk, proceed as follows: 1 Click Start. 2 Poit to Programs, Accessories, the System Tools ad fially Backup. The Backup widow appears. 3 O the Tools meu, click Create a Emergecy Repair Disk. 4 Follow the istructios that appear o your scree. You will eed a blak 1,44 MB floppy disk to create a Emergecy Repair Disk. The system recovery process allows you to reistall a image of the hard disk as it was whe you started usig your otebook. Perform a System Recovery i the followig cases: I the evet of a serious system crash. If you wat to modify the size of your partitios. Perform a Applicatio Recovery whe you eed to: Reistall a idividual driver if a device is ot fuctioig properly. Reistall a idividual applicatio i the case you have problems ruig it. Performig a system recovery Use this optio oly whe your system is seriously damaged, e.g., if Widows does ot work ay loger, or your PC behaves abormally, etc. The system recovery will completely reistall the origially cofigured system o your C: drive. Your D: drive data will ot be deleted if you choose to keep the same partitio settigs. If you decide to modify the size of your partitios, the existig data o both drives (C: ad D:) will be deleted. Whe performig a system recovery, you ca opt for a Stadard Recovery ad a Advaced Recovery. Whe choosig a Stadard Recovery, you leave the curret partitio sizes utouched. Applyig a system recovery meas that you will lose all your data stored o your C: drive (ad your D: drive if you modify partitio settigs).! Make sure that your computer is coected to AC (ot the batteries) before you attempt a system recovery.! Whe the recovery is performed, you must remove the recovery CD-ROM from the drive before restartig the computer. If the CD-ROM is still i the drive, you will restart a recovery process. To reistall a device driver, proceed as follows: 1 First check whether the driver you wat to reistall is o the last product recovery CD-ROM. Oly device drivers that are ot delivered with Widows ca be foud i the Drivers folder. 2 Check all uderlyig sub-directories for the appropriate driver. 3 ext, lauch the Add/Remove Hardware Wizard (click Start, poit to Settigs/Cotrol Pael, ad the double-click Add/Remove Hardware to istall the appropriate device). 35
Usig partitioed drives About the software o your Soy otebook Usig partitioed drives I My Computer or Widows Explorer, you may have oticed the availability of two drives (C: ad D:): your hard disk drive comes from the factory with 2 logical partitios: this does ot mea that your computer cotais two physical hard disks. Whe you start usig your otebook, your C: drive cotais all the files required by Widows ad other preistalled software, while the D: drive is empty. The D: drive is the ideal storage space for all your documets, especially big oes like digital motio pictures captured with DVgate. While you ca perform a system recovery ad chage the partitio settigs i order to have oe C: drive oly, this optio is ot recommeded for usig video editig applicatios like DVgate. To optimize data storage, use the C: drive to istall ew applicatios, ad save all your documets to the D: drive. Moreover, doig so will prevet the loss of your documets i the case you eed to perform a system recovery. Do ot try to add, delete, or resize partitios uless you really eed it. Chagig partitio settigs might delete all your files o the hard disk. If you eed to perform a system recovery, but do ot wat to lose all the data stored o your hard disk, copy all the files you wat to keep o the D: drive. Durig the system recovery process, choose to keep the curret partitio iformatio. Doig so will keep your D: drive uchaged after the recovery process. If you do eed to chage the size of your partitios, you ca do so by performig a system recovery. I this case, it is importat that all data o your hard disk will be deleted.
