It also gives you the ability to output the edited material for recordig o a DV device. With DVgate, you ca easily perform image editig with your computer ad a DV device. DVgate cosists of 3 applicatios: DVgate Motio; DVgate Still; DVgate Assemble. Depedig o the computer settigs, frames may be lost durig video capture ad frame duplicatio whe recordig edited video. Please make sure you cofigure your computer accordig to the recommeded settigs to prevet this from happeig. To cofigure your computer to use DVgate, refer to the Olie help of DVgate. 15

17 Usig Video software About the software o your Soy otebook Usig DVgate Motio With DVgate Motio you ca capture video ad record edited videos o a DV device. Capturig video: You ca automatically or maually capture ay scee or portio of the images recorded o a DV device, such as a digital video camera recorder. What is more, you ca specify the exact scees that you wat to capture while watchig the tape playback o the moitor. You ca the choose to save the selected scees as separate files or as oe file. Recordig edited video o a DV device You ca record the edited video o tape usig a DV device, such as a digital video camera recorder*, coected to the computer. With DVgate, you are ot limited to recordig sigle clips, but you ca record a series of clips o the DV device at oe time. To lauch DVgate Motio, proceed as follows: 1 Coect the camera to the computer with the i.lik cable ad tur o the camera. 2 Click Start, Programs, DVgate, DVgate Motio. DVgate Motio ad the Moitor widows appear. 16 * The digital video camera recorder must have a DV-I coector. Capturig video You ca automatically or maually import videos oto your computer. To automatically import videos oto your computer, proceed as follows: 1 Lauch DVgate Motio. 2 Click the dow arrow ad select Import-Auto from the Mode drop-dow list. Use the DVgate camera cotrols buttos to play, rewid or fast forward the tape to the selected time code to begi capturig.

The first frame of the segmet to be captured, is displayed i the I/Out list widow. Click Mark agai to mark the ed of the segmet to capture. The last frame of the segmet to be captured, is displayed i the I/Out list widow. Cotiue to mark as may segmets as you wat. 5 Click Capture to import the selected video segmet or click Capture All to import them all at oce. The Save as a file widow appears. 6 Select the locatio to save the file. 7 Click the Save butto. DVgate captures the segmets. The Capturig complete message appears. 17

Iformatio about the capturig process is displayed i the Report widow. 9 Click OK. 10 Exit DVgate Motio. The Dvmotio2 widow appears o the scree. You ca the save the I/Out list, which allows you to capture the same video sequeces later o, or chage the I/Out settigs. Make sure that the camera is i Video Tape Recorder mode (VTR) whe capturig or playig back video from or to a tape. If you wat to maually import video oto your computer, refer to the DVgate olie help file. Recordig edited videos o a DV device To record edited videos o a DV device, proceed as follows: 1 Adjust the recordig correctio values. 2 Add files to the Record List. 3 Record remotely or maually the video o the DV device. 18 Adjustig the recordig correctio values To esure accuracy i the recordig, you ca specify recordig correctio values. Adjustmet of the recordig correctio values is especially importat whe performig splice recordig. You ca choose to specify the values yourself or to have them automatically adjusted by usig the automatic calibratio feature. The values geerated by the automatic calibratio feature are usually correct. To automatically adjust the recordig correctio values, proceed as follows: 1 Lauch DVgate Motio. 2 Click the dow arrow ad select Export - Auto from the Mode drop-dow list.

DVgate Motio activates the coected DV device ad automatically fids the adjustmet values. 5 Click OK. To maually adjust the recordig correctio values, refer to the DVgate olie help file. Addig files to the Record List To add files to the Record List, proceed as follows: 1 Lauch DVgate Motio. 2 Click Add i the DVgate Motio AVI file list. The Add dialog box appears. 3 Select a file ad click Ope. The specified file is added ad the serial umber, first ad last images, time code, file legth ad file ame are displayed. DVgate Motio adds all serial umbered files with the same ame if you select Add all divided files saved with the same ame. Serial umbered files are created whe you specify to save files as multiple files i DVgate Motio ad DVgate Assemble. All ewly added files are appeded to the ed of the list. You ca drag multiple files at oe time; however, the order i which they are added is upredictable. You ca record AVI files with differet soud modes o a DV device, but about oe secod of o soud (depedig o the DV device) may occur at the poit where the soud modes chage. You ca oly add AVI files usig DV Codec as video compressio; MPEG files are ot supported. Whe recordig a video sequece, make sure that all images are saved i the same mode. Recordig i differet modes might cause soud or image distortios durig playback. After addig the files you wat to the Record List, you ca still chage the order of the files, add or delete files. 19

To chage the order of the files i the Record List, proceed as follows: 1 Click the file you wat to move while holdig dow the mouse butto. 2 Drag the file to the appropriate positio ad the release the mouse butto. To remove a file from the Record List, proceed as follows: 1 Click the file you wat to remove. 2 Click Delete. The removed file is filled by the subsequet file ad the files are reumbered. Click Delete All whe to remove all files. You ca select multiple AVI or still picture files from the Record List by clickig them while holdig dow the <Shift> or <Ctrl> key. Whe you move multiple files, they are all moved together. You ca udo chages by choosig Udo from the Edit meu immediately after isertig, movig or deletig (a) file(s). You ca save a Record List for future use. Record List files ca oly be used i DVgate Motio. To preview a clip, proceed as follows: 1 Select the file you wat to preview i the DVgate Motio AVI file list widow. 2 Click Preview. The Moitor widow ad the Preview widow appear. The Moitor widow shows the first frame of the file. Click o the Previous File butto or o the ext File butto to select the file you wat to preview. Click Preview All to preview all the files show i the list. Previous File ad ext File are buttos for movig the preview from oe selected file to aother. They are ot for desiged for avigatio purposes withi the list. Cosequetly, you caot click o them whe oly oe file is selected. Whe you select oly oe file, Previous File ad ext File do ot fuctio. 20

22 Usig Video software About the software o your Soy otebook Recordig o the DV device You ca automatically or maually export videos from your computer to a DV device. To automatically export videos from your computer to a DV device, proceed as follows: 1 Coect the camera to the computer with the i.lik cable ad tur o the camera. 2 Lauch DVgate Motio. 3 Click the dow arrow ad select Export-Auto from the Mode drop-dow list. 4 Click the Add butto i the DVgate Motio - AVI file list widow ad select the video file you wat to export. 5 Click Record or Record All. The Output dialog box appears. 6 Select the Add blak image optio butto. You ca add blak frame(s) durig recordig if you select the Apped optio butto i the Output dialog box. Blak frame(s) ca be placed i the followig locatios: Head: A blak image is placed before the start of the video sequece durig recordig. Tail: A blak image is placed after the ed of the video sequece durig recordig. Both: Blak images are placed before the start ad after the ed of the video sequece durig recordig. 49 Usig Imagig software About the software o your Soy otebook Usig PictureGear PictureGear is your assistat for creatig ad editig photos, backgrouds, wallpapers, slide shows, persoal scree savers, etc. You ca eve aimate your preferred gif files with Gif Aimatio Tools or play back movies i a variety of formats. You ca also create albums from your favourite images ad upload them to a Web page. To ope PictureGear, proceed as follows: 1 Click the Start butto o the Widows taskbar. 2 Poit to Programs ad the PictureGear. 3 Click PictureGear. 48 Whe you start PictureGear for the first time, the Let's try PictureGear widow appears. It gives you a quick overview o how to view ad edit still images, prit various images, make a home page, ad make stitches from a movie. Whe you start PictureGear for the first time, the sample slides provided with PictureGear are displayed automatically. ext time you start PictureGear, the slides you last viewed, will be displayed. You ca always exit PictureGear by clickig the Close butto i the upper right corer of the mai widow.

To create a collectio, proceed as follows: 1 Lauch PictureGear. The PictureGear mai widow appears. 2 I the Folder box, select the locatio of your pictures. 3 Select the pictures you wat to iclude i your collectio. If you hold dow the <Ctrl> key, you ca select several pictures at the same time. If you hold dow the <Shift> key, all the images located betwee the two images you have clicked, are selected. If you press the <Ctrl> ad the <A> key at the same time, all the images i the folder are selected. 4 From the Collectio meu, choose Create ew Collectio. The Create ew Collectio dialog box appears. 5 Eter a ame for your collectio, the click OK. 6 Click Collectio i the Folder box. The collectio you created appears uder My Collectio. 7 Click the picture with the left mouse butto ad hold the left butto. 8 Drag the pictures to the Collectio you created. Whe you click the created Collectio, the selected pictures are displayed. 49

To view a slide show, proceed as follows: 1 Create a Collectio. See Creatig a Collectio (page 49). 2 Click Select All from the Edit meu to display all images i the display area. 3 Select Slide Show View from the View meu. The slide show is displayed. If you press the <Esc> key, the scree returs to the Preview area. To chage the slide show settigs while viewig a slide show, proceed as follows: 1 Click the Slideshow settigs butto. The Slideshow effect dialog box appears. There are 3 parts: Effect: here you ca add soud or special effects to your slide show. Display chage: you have 4 optios: If Mouse click is selected, the ext slide is displayed whe you click the left mouse butto. Whe Automatic is selected, images are displayed oe after aother at the iterval specified i Display time. If Repeat is selected, the slide show will repeat itself util you stop it. Furthermore, if the Cotrol pael is switched o, the cotrol bar is displayed at the bottom of the scree. BGM: if you select this, you ca browse for a soud file to be played durig the Slide Show. 2 After choosig all the effects you wat, click OK. The slide show settigs have bee chaged. 50

To create a scree saver, proceed as follows: 1 Create a Collectio. See Creatig a Collectio (page 49). 2 Click Select All from the Edit meu to display all images i the display area. 3 Select Scree Saver from the Utilities meu. The Scree Saver Settigs dialog box appears. You ca arrage the images i the order you wat them displayed. To do this, click a image from the Slide list ad click the Up ad Dow buttos. If you select the Radom Playig check box, the order for slides set i the Slide list is igored ad the slides are displayed at radom. You ca also select effects ad soud for the scree saver. 4 Click OK. The scree saver is set. 51 Creatig a HTML Photo Album You ca create a photo album i HTML format usig slides as the source images. To create a HTML photo album, proceed as follows: 1 Create a Collectio. See Creatig a Collectio (page 49). 2 From the Utilities meu, select Album Maker. The PictureGear Album Maker dialog box appears. 3 Choose a desig template for your album. 4 Give a ame to your album i Edit Title of the album.

The Pael Album dialog box appears. 6 Follow the wizard ad click Fiish. PictureGear ow creates your photo album. Whe the process is doe, the Completed dialog box appears. Click Save to select the locatio where you wat to save your album. Click Check to display your photo album i a browser. Click Sed to upload the album to the server. Click Back to create the album agai. 7 Click Save. The Select the folder to save album dialog box appears. 8 Select the folder to save the created album. 9 Click OK. PictureGear asks if you are sure you wat to create a folder. 10 Click Yes. You get the message that the album was saved successfully. 11 Click OK. It also allows you to easily place arrows o specific areas of a computer map, or to overlay photographs take with a digital camera with illustratios. You ca select the uderlay image either at the start up of PictureToy from other Soy made software, or directly from PictureToy. The origial image file of a uderlay image remais uchaged. To lear the ames ad fuctios of the Operatio Pael, refer to the olie help of PictureToy. Startig ad quittig To start PictureToy, proceed as follows: 1 Click Start ad select Programs / PictureToy / PictureToy. PictureToy starts ad the startup scree is displayed. 2 To select a uderlayig image, ope the image file, you wish to use as the uderlay image, with aother software. The drag the ico from the mai widow of PictureToy, ad drop it o the uderlayig picture. The image will be displayed i PictureToy. You ca the draw o the picture displayed i the operatio pael. 3 To draw a picture over a empty backgroud, click the ew Cavas butto. A ew, white cavas is created o the desktop. To attach stamps ad balloos, proceed as follows: 1 Make sure the image for which you wat to attach a stamp or a balloo is opeed i PictureToy. 2 Click the Stamp butto to paste stamps. Click the Balloo butto to paste balloos. The Details Pael displays the stamps or balloos you ca choose from. 3 Click the arrows to display more balloos or stamps. 4 Click the Color butto to select the color of the stamp or balloo. 5 Click the positio where you wat to paste it. A stamp or balloo is pasted where you clicked. You ca resize, move, or rotate stamps ad balloos simply by draggig their frames. The idicator directio of a balloo is also variable. Writig text You ca use your keyboard to write text or ay message o the image. To write text o a image, proceed as follows: 1 Make sure the image to which you wat to add text, is opeed i PictureToy. 2 Click the Text Iput butto. 3 Type the text you wat to attach ito the text box of the Details Pael. 4 To select a differet fot, click the More butto. A dialog box is displayed which allows you to select fots. 5 Click the arrows to display the fot you wish to use ad select it. 6 Click the Bold or Italic butto to format your text. 7 Click the Color butto to select the text color. 8 Click the positio where you wat to the text to be iserted. You ca also attach PictureToy images to your message ad trasmit or prit them. You ca sed PictureToy images to aother software applicatio via your clipboard. To save pictures as oe PictureToy image, proceed as follows: 1 Make sure that the uderlayig image ad the picture draw o it are opeed. 2 Click the Save ico. You ca also click the Meu ico ad click the Save butto i the meu displayed i the Details Pael. 3 Select the destiatio folder i the Save i list. 4 Select the file type i the Save as type list. You ca select the followig types of extesios: Widows Bitmap Mix (Extesio BMP) Widows Bitmap Mask (Extesio BMP) JPEG Mix (Extesio JPG) JPEG Mask (Extesio JPG). Mix combies the uderlayed image with the picture that was draw. Mask saves oly the picture that was draw. 5 Type the ame of the file i the File ame text box. 6 Click Save. The picture is saved ad the dialog box closes. The PictureToy image is saved as a differet file, so the origial uderlayig remais uchaged. 57

To sed the pictures by , proceed as follows: To attach the picture to a , either click the butto or click the Meu ico ad the select Mail from the Details Pael. The software starts with the PictureToy image attached. PictureToy images are attached as JPEG (extesio JPG) format files. To attach a PictureToy image to ad sed it, it is ecessary to set MAPI with the software program. Refer to your software operatio Maual ad Help for details o attachig files ad ecodig methods. Whe you quit PictureToy, the image is automatically saved o the clipboard, which eables you to use the image o other software applicatios. 58

60 Usig Imagig software About the software o your Soy otebook Usig VisualFlow VisualFlow allows you to iteractively browse through files stored o a Memory Stick, your hard drive, a CD-ROM or a floppy disk that cotais still images, movies or audio clips. It also allows you to select files for display or playback by other applicatios. You ca use the mouse, touchpad, game cotrol or Jog Dial (where applicable) to cotrol the display. To ope VisualFlow, proceed as follows: 1 Click the Start butto o the Widows taskbar. 2 Poit to Programs ad the VisualFlow. 3 Click VisualFlow. VisualFlow starts ad the followig scree appears. 1 Path ame of the displayed directory. 2 Exit butto: Press to exit VisualFlow Click a slide to brig it to the frot. Click agai to ope it. 61 Usig Imagig software About the software o your Soy otebook Whe a Memory Stick is iserted, the XP AutoPlay opes ad VisualFlow ca be selected from the optios. I this case, the images o the Memory Stick will be immediately visible. Folders ad drives stored o a Memory Stick are displayed as slides. VisualFlow caot play audio clips that are stored as a MemoryStick Audio format (clips with the MSA extesio). To play audio clips that are stored as MemoryStick Voice format (files with the MSV extesio), the MemoryStick Voice Editor must be istalled o your computer. If you start VisualFlow from the Start meu, VisualFlow will search for the Memory Stick, which is coected to your VAIO computer. I order to fid the Memory Stick, the MEMSTICK.ID file should be located o the Memory Stick itself. If you have deleted the file or formatted the Memory Stick with Widows Formatter, VisualFlow will ot be able to fid the Memory Stick device. I that case, please copy the MEMSTICK.ID file from C:\Program Files\Soy\VisualFlow to the Memory Stick. The automatic power maagemet selects the most advatageous profiles, or lets you customize the profiles you choose, accordig to your ow eeds, with the goal of exteded battery life. PowerPael has the followig features: Automatic Profile Selectio (APS) based o the curretly active applicatio; Ability to select specific Power Profiles maually from the meu; Ability to edit ad create ew profiles; Ability to display detailed battery iformatio; It works i harmoy with your Widows settigs. Activatig PowerPael Whe you start the computer, the PowerPael ico appears i the system tray by default. To see the CPU state ad the curret power profile, simply poit to the ico. To chage profiles, proceed as follows: 1 Right-click the PowerPael ico i the taskbar ad select Profiles. 2 I the Profiles meu, select a profile. The appropriate power settigs are activated. Whe you use the battery pack as power source, your system selects the Maximum Battery Life power maagemet profile by default.
