MSU Department of Mathematics Account Manager Tutorial Overview The MSU Department of Mathematics "Account Manager" can be used for the following: Change your Math account password Reset a forgotten password Enroll in optional identity verification process for faster password resets o Select between security questions and answers, or Google authenticator, as the identify verification o If enrollment is skipped, you can still reset a forgotten password via a verification code that will be emailed to your MSU email on record Logging In From the main MSU Department of Mathematics website, hover over the "Internal" menu, then click "Account Manager". Or go directly to https://mathid.math.msu.edu Enter your Math account username in the "User Name" field, and your password. Next click on "Login". If you do not remember your password, click on "Reset Password", then skip to the section further down in this document labeled "Resetting a Forgotten Password".
Changing Your Password After logging in, you will be on the "Change Password" page. You are required to change your Math once per year. You will receive email reminders when it is getting close to that time. To change your password, enter your current password in the field labeled "Old Password". Then enter your new password (twice). Information on the password complexity requirements will be shown. Password Requirements Your new password must meet certain criteria to be considered valid and secure. Cannot change it more than once per week, and must change it once per year Cannot be any of your previous 24 passwords Cannot contain your first name, last name or username It must be at least 10 characters long Must contain at least one character each from 3 of the following 4 categories o Upper case letters o Lower case letters o Numbers o Special characters, for example, ~!@#$%^&*_-+=` \(){}[]:;"'<>,.?/
Enrolling in the Optional "User Registration" Process If you ever forget your password, you can reset it using a verification code that is sent to your MSU email address. Optionally, you can enroll in other, faster identity verification methods prior to forgetting your password. First, click on the "Enrollment" tab underneath "Welcome, yourname". Then pick one or both sub-tabs and complete the steps in each section. Security Questions This sub-tab should already be open after clicking the main "Enrollment" tab. Pick two security questions, then enter your answers in the boxes. You will need to enter your answers twice to confirm. Finally, click "Enroll". If you have already enrolled, you will be able to change your questions and answers, simply follow the steps above and click "Update" instead of "Enroll".
Google Authenticator Google Authenticator is an app for your smartphone that is often used for two-factor authentication. On this web app, it can be used to verify your identity during a password and may be faster than using the security questions when resetting your password. First click on the "Enrollment" tab, then on the "Google Authenticator" sub-tab. If you do not have the app installed on your phone yet, use the link or search the app store and install it. 1. Open the Google Authenticator app and tap "+" in the upper-right 2. Point your phone camera at the QR "barcode" image displayed on the website 3. Look in the app to find code labeled "ADSelfServicePlus" and enter it on the website 4. Click on "Enroll"
Resetting a Forgotten Password If you have forgotten your Math password, you can reset it after verifying your identity one of these ways: 1. Having a verification code sent to your MSU email address 2. Answering two security questions (requires your enrollment ahead of time) 3. Using Google Authenticator app (also requires your enrollment ahead of time) From the main MSU Department of Mathematics website, hover over the "Internal" menu, then click "Account Manager". Or go directly to https://mathid.math.msu.edu Next click on the link "Reset Password". Then enter your Math account username, and the random characters displayed in the image (this helps secure against automated attacks), and click "Continue". Depending on which options are available to you, pick one of the methods to prove your identity. Please note that this page will timeout after 5 minutes for security purposes. After selecting the method, enter the random characters and click "Continue". The instructions on the next page will vary depending on which method was selected. 1. Security questions and answers: enter the answers to the security questions you previously entered when enrolling 2. Google Authenticator: load the app on your phone and enter the code provided 3. Verification code via email: enter the code sent to your email address. Please note that for security purposes, part of your email address will be hidden on the website After verifying your identity, enter your new password (twice).
