Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) on the UN Examinations and Tests System Q: What are the technical requirements for accessing and completing the 2017 YPP POLNET online examination? A: The UN Examinations and Tests System should preferably be accessed through the latest version of Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, or Microsoft Internet Explorer. We advise that you disable any pop-up blockers while using the system. The following browsers are recommended: Google Chrome 30 or later (recommended for optimal compatibility) Mozilla Firefox 25 or later MS Internet Explorer 9.0 or later Safari 6 or later (please note that there are known issues with Safari and TinyMCE) Opera The following settings should be enabled: Cookies Pop-ups (in both Internet browser and security software) Javascript ActiveX The following plug-in and reader should be used: Adobe Flash Player plugin Adobe Acrobat Reader Important: Before starting your test, please make sure that you have installed necessary display language (e.g., Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian, and Spanish) and changed the keyboard layout to be able to type in that language. Detailed instructions on how to do this can be found here. If you would like to answer a question in Arabic, you need to enable Right-to-Left direction in typing following the steps below: Page 1 of 5

Q: What is the recommended Internet bandwidth to access the 2017 YPP POLNET Online Examination? A: Make sure that the computer you are planning to take the test on is stable and has reliable power and Internet connections. Use a broadband connection (256 Kbit/sec or faster--for optimal viewing) through USB wireless modem, ADSL, T1/T2, fiber optic or cable. Dial-up access will be significantly slower and is not recommended. Please find an alternative location to access the Internet if your system at home or work is not adequate. Q: My username and/or password do not work. I cannot log in. What should I do? Make sure that you use the username and the password sent you via email from the UN Examinations and Tests System. Remember that the username and password to log into the UN Examinations and Tests System are not the same as those you use to log into Inspira. Copy and paste both the username and the password directly from the email into the required fields in the UN Examinations and Tests system so as to avoid any typing errors or caps lock errors. While copying and pasting your username and password, make sure you do not select/copy any extra blank spaces. If the issue persists, please immediately email us at ypp2017@un.org with (1) your full name (first name and last name), and (2) brief subject line of the technical issue along with a description and a screenshot (if applicable). We will respond to your query as soon as possible and will make every effort within our capacity to assist Q: I forgot/lost my username and/or password do not work. What should I do? A: If you forgot or lost your username and password, go to the UN Examinations and Tests System login page, click on "Forgot your username and password? Click here" and follow the steps to reset your password. You will receive an email at your primary email address including a link to reset your password. Q. I have accidentally skipped a question in the exam. Can I go back to the question and answer it? A: Once you click on Next button to proceed to the next question, you cannot go back to that question. Q. Can I go back to a question I previously answered and change my answer? Page 2 of 5

A: Once you submit an answer to a question by clicking on Next button either intentionally or accidentally, you will not be able to return to that question and change your response. Therefore, proceed to the next question only if you are sure about your response. Q. How do I adjust the language of the spellchecker in the answer window for the Constructed Response Items? A: The language of the spellchecker in the answer window will depend on the settings of the browser you are using during the examination. To change the language or disable the spellchecker, go to the language section of the settings menu in the browser you are using and adjust the settings based on your preference. Q: I logged into the UN Examination and Tests System but I do not see any tests although the test window has opened. What should I do? Immediately email us at ypp2017@un.org with (1) your full name (first name and last name), and (2) brief subject line of the technical issue along with a description and a screenshot (if applicable). *If you do not know how to save a screenshot*, please refer to the following guidelines: https://careers.un.org/lbw/attachments/how_to_take_a_screenshot.pdf Q: I experienced some technical difficulties with the UN Examinations and Tests System. What should I do? Please immediately email us at ypp2017@un.org with (1) your full name (first name and last name), and (2) brief subject line of the technical issue along with a description and a screenshot (if applicable). Allow sufficient time in the testing process we recommend that you complete the test at least 6 hours prior to the end of the test window so that we can assist you in a timely and that you can complete the test before the end of the test window. Once the test window closes, there will be no further opportunity to complete the test. We highly recommend trying out the sample test for several times and reporting to us any issues that are not answered in these FAQs prior to the actual test. *If you do not know how to save a screenshot*, please refer to the following guidelines: https://careers.un.org/lbw/attachments/how_to_take_a_screenshot.pdf Q: I logged into the Examination and Tests system, how do I access the test? Page 3 of 5

A: You will see the tests you are eligible to complete on the UN Examinations and Tests System welcome page. Click on the test name. It will take you to the test. Q: How do I know if I have completed a test? A: Once you complete your test, you will see a checked box next to it, confirming that your test responses were received. Alternatively, you can check your test completion status by clicking on the test link. It will read as "No more attempts are allowed" confirming that you have completed the test. You will also see when you attempted and finished the test. Q: Can I retry or view an exercise once I have submitted it? A: No, you can only attempt the test once. Once you submit your test responses or your responses are automatically submitted when the allotted time for that exercise runs out, you will not be able to view it or start another attempt. Q: Can I pause the timer of a test once I have started it? A: You cannot pause the test. Once you have clicked on Start attempt, there is no way to pause the timer and redo the test later. You must complete the test in one sitting. Q: I lost Internet connection while I was taking the test. What should I do? A: The system will automatically save your answers every 2 minutes. Once the Internet connection is restored, log into the UN Examinations and Tests System again and go back to the exercise you were taking when the connection dropped. You will be able to continue the test as long as there is time left. However, note that if the timer has run out, you will not be able to go back to it. No candidate will be allowed to resume the test once the timer for it has run out. Therefore, candidates must ensure adequate connectivity for the duration of the test and return to the test as soon as possible after the Internet connection is restored. Q: I accidently closed my browser. Can I get back to my test? A: If a test is currently in progress, logging out or losing Internet access will not pause the timer. You must return to the test as soon as possible by going back to the test site, Page 4 of 5

logging in with your username and password, and clicking on the test you were in the process of completing. Once you click on the test link, a button will appear that reads Continue last attempt. If you click this button, it will take you back to the test and you will be able to continue from where you left provided that you do still have time left. Q: I used the button next to the timer to flag a question that I wanted to go back. However, I cannot view that question again. What should I do? A: You cannot navigate between questions in this test. Therefore, even if you can flag questions, you will not be able to view them again. Please do not proceed to the next question without providing an answer or being sure of the answer you provided. Q: How do I save a typed response? A: There is no save button on constructed response items that require a typed response. The system automatically saves your typed work every 2 minutes while you are typing in the answer window. If the allotted time for the test does run out, everything that has been saved by the system until that moment will automatically be submitted. Q: The images in the test are not displaying properly. What can I do? A: If the images in the test are not displaying properly, immediately refresh the page to see if the image will load. If the image does not fit onto your screen, try re-sizing your browser to see if it allows the image to fit properly. If that does not work, try downloading the image to your computer and opening it from there. Page 5 of 5
