Generl Description The is developed especilly for remote control of Amteur rdio ccessories like Antenns, Power Amplifiers nd rottors vi the Internet in user-friendly nd cost-effective wy. Lot of rdio ccessories re designed to be controlled from PC vi seril port (RS- 232). Seril ports re not very convenient to trnsfer over the Internet. The cts s PC ginst the connected equipment t the sme time s it shows more user friendly web bsed user interfce for the opertor. The web interfce is much more convenient to use over the Internet s no specil softwre need to be instlled in the PC nd it cn be rech from ny Internet connected PC round the world. For the moment the Remote control RC- 1216H cn be configured to control SteppIR ntenns, the ACOM-2000A Power Amp, Prositel nd AlfSpid Rottors, Yesu rottors with GS-232B interfce nd other Green Heron controlled rottors. The Remote control unit system is connected to the Internet primrily vi 10 or 100 Mbit Ethernet nd fixed connections like DSL, cble nd WLAN or 3G Mobile systems. The is esily configured vi modern USB nd WEB bsed user interfces. B-RC1216H-PA7 User mnul Rev. PA7 2013 April 23 5 of 57

SteppIR Control ACOM-2000A Control Rottor Control The RC-1216 cn be configured to remote control SteppIR ntenn. The controls re the sme s on the SDA-100 control box. You cn use Retrct, Clibrte, Bi-directionl, 180 degree switch etc. Frequency djustment cn be done mnul or utomtic. The RC-1216 cn be configured to remote control ACOM-2000A Power mplifier. The controls nd indictors re lmost the sme s on ACOM-2000A control Pnel (RCU) so you will recognize them immeditely. The RC-1216 cn be configured to remote control rottors. At this moment it support Prosistel rottors with the D-type control box, nd AlfSpid rottors, rottors controlled by Green Heron control box, Yesu rottors with GS-232B seril interfce nd other rottors with seril interfces using the DCU-1 protocol. B-RC1216H-PA7 User mnul Rev. PA7 2013 April 23 6 of 57

Step by step RC-1216 H setup Below follows recommendtion bout how to proceed when setting up the system. 1. Spend some time to red thru this user mnul to get fmilir with the product. 2. Apply 12V DC (good stbilized power) to the unit. 3. Connect the unit with CAT5 ptch cbles to the sme Ethernet switch or router s your PC which you will use to setup the system is connected. 4. Downlod the Microbit Setup Mnger nd the ltest firmwre from http://www.remoterig.com to your PC. Follow the instructions bout how to instll the Microbit Setup Mnger (see chpter Configurtion with Microbit Setup Mnger). 5. Find out how your network is configured nd configure the to fit into your network (see chpter Initil IP Setup) with the Microbit Setup Mnger. This hs to be done with both units. 6. Check the instlled firmwre version. If the one you downloded from Remoterig is newer, updte the unit with the new firmwre. (see chpter FW/HW bout how to updte). 7. When you hve configured the unit to fit into your network, Strt your Web browser nd connect to the unite by entering the IP-ddress. If you get in contct with the internl web server everything is OK. 8. Mke the bsic softwre configurtion for your system which is described the lter in this user mnul. 9. Prepre the cbles needed for your PA, Antenn or Rottor ccording to the cble drwings provided in this user mnul nd the mnul of the connected equipment. Double check your home mde cbles with n ohm meter before connecting them to the units to prevent hrm of ny equipment. Microbit do not tke ny responsibility of dmged units or connected equipment. 10. After prepring the cbles connect them to the controlled equipment. Connect the power to ll equipment. Check with your web browser gin tht you re in contct with unit nd cn control the connected equipment. 11. When everything works s it should on your locl network it s time to setup your Internet router so you cn rech the unit from the outside world over the Internet. If you lredy hve other equipment tht you remote control you cn go direct to 14 s you don t need to use seprte Dynmic DNS service. 12. The first thing is to determine if your Internet Service Provider (ISP) re providing you with fixed or dynmic IP-ddress. Fixed IP:s re rre so you probbly hve dynmic IP-ddress if you re not pying extr for fixed one. A dynmic IP is no problem but you need to use dynmic DNS service. You cn use Remoterigs free dynmic DNS service or DynDNS ccount. New DynDNS ccount re no longer free. B-RC1216H-PA7 User mnul Rev. PA7 2013 April 23 7 of 57

For detiled informtion bout Dynmic DNS services see the Dynmic DNS chpters under Configurtion with WEB-Interfce. 13. Configure the units Dynmic DNS settings (see chpter Dynmic DNS Setting). 14. Now it s time to configure your remote router. We recommend tht you first enble the remote configuring of your router, you my need it lter. After tht s done configure port forwrding (see chpter Network nd Firewlls). When this is done your remote control unit should be rechble over the Internet. 15. When bck t the Control QTH try to browse to the Dynmic DNS ddress Own host nme you registered nd entered into the remote control unit. You should get in contct with the RC:s internl web server exctly s it ws locl, remember to use :port number fter the dyndns ddress if you hve chnged the webserver port from 80 for exmple http://sm2on.mine.nu:8000. Enjoy the remote controlling. B-RC1216H-PA7 User mnul Rev. PA7 2013 April 23 8 of 57

The DynDNS client checks wht IP ddress your router hs got from the ISP nd sends the informtion to DynDNS:s DNS server. When using DynDNS you enter "Own host nme" insted of n IP ddress in we browsers ddress field nd you don't need to bother if the IP ddress t the remote QTH chnges. You need to register n ccount t http://www.dyndns.com/services/dns/dyndns/ nd get domin nme. There re other providers of the sme service but only supports DynDNS or Remoterig ddns. Restrt device Restrt device cn be used if you wnt to reset nd restrt the without sving ny chnges (before pply chnges) or just for ordinry reset. Networks nd Firewlls One of the mjor obstcles when trying to remotely control something is the fct tht the Internet Service Provider (ISP) forces us to use dynmic IP ddresses. We cn never know, from time to time, which IP ddress our modem / firewll / router hs on its outside interfce (the IP ddress you will try to connect to). Most people use NAT routers tht trnsltes IP ddresses on the inside (your little LAN) to one common IP ddress on the outside using port conversion. At the remote end the router must be configured so tht port 80 (defult settings) is directed to the RC-1216 which should hve sttic IP ddress. If you hve other remote controlled equipment connected to the router port 80 is probbly lredy in use nd you need to chnge the webserver port from 80 to something else. In the exmple below where we hve setup the Linksys router we hve used port 8000. You will lso need to register the to DynDNS (www.dyndns.com) so you cn use host nme to connect to it regrdless of its dynmic IP ddress (which cn chnge without notice, but rrely does). If you lredy hve DynDns ccount registered for ny equipment connected to the sme router, you do not need to register ny specific for the. The following defult IP ports re used (chngeble) port number function 80 WEB interfce WEB interfce re TCP-bsed. B-RC1216H-PA7 User mnul Rev. PA7 2013 April 23 32 of 57
