ITS405: Intermediate Networking Credit Hours: 3 Contact Hours: This is a 3-credit course, offered in accelerated format. This means that 16 weeks of material is covered in 8 weeks. The exact number of hours per week that you can expect to spend on each course will vary based upon the weekly coursework, as well as your study style and preferences. You should plan to spend 14-20 hours per week in each course reading material, interacting on the discussion boards, writing papers, completing projects, and doing research. Course Description and Outcomes Course Description: This course addresses practical methods for analyzing business problems and designing large-scale software issues using object-oriented solutions. This course prepares students for the Microsoft Windows Server 2012 Enterprise Administrator certification exam. Course Overview: This course provides students with the skills and knowledge necessary to implement a core Windows Server 2012 infrastructure in an enterprise environment. The course covers implementation, management, maintenance, and provisioning of services and infrastructure in a Windows Server 2012 environment. The course also covers the administrative tasks necessary to maintain a Windows Server 2012 infrastructure, such as the implementation of Server Images, Domain Name Systems (DNSs), Active Directory Domain Services (ADDS), Group Policies, and data security, as well as monitoring and Windows Update Services. The course offers students hands-on instruction and practice through access to TestOut s LabSim for Windows Server Pro: Install and Configure and prepares students for Microsoft's 70-410 Certification and TestOut s Windows Server Pro: Install and Configure Certification. Course Learning Outcomes: 1. Configure DNS for the enterprise environment. 2. Utilize Active Directory and its functions throughout the domain. 3. Use Groups, Authentication, and Group Policy to secure your enterprise. 4. Use Windows auditing to track potential security breaches. 5. Prepare server images for deploying servers. 6. Configure Hyper-V. 7. Deploy and configure core network services 8. Protect data in the enterprise. Participation & Attendance

This assignment is a means for students to display their mastery of the material, and to provide a creative and realistic way in which to apply knowledge from ITS405. Create a detailed, organized, and unified technical solution given a scenario described in the document linked below: ITS405 Portfolio Project Scenario Your solution should draw on the content presented in the course. The outline below lists points/topics to cover. You are free to provide additional, related information. Provide technical and justification reasons for each choice, citing resources as appropriate. Provide rough estimates of scheduling and manpower required for deploying your solution. You may summarize the schedule and manpower at the end of the document, or include it separately for each section. The Windows Server 2012 operating system should be used for all aspects of the solution.

Your solution should cover the following four numbered areas and associated bulleted items listed under each: 1. Deployment and Server Editions How many total servers are needed? Which roles will be combined? Which edition of Windows Server will be used for each server (e.g., Standard, Data)? Should servers be virtualized using Hyper-V? Where will each of the servers be located (which of the two sites)? How will the servers be deployed? 2. DNS DNS namespace design (e.g., domain name[s] chosen split DNS for internet/intranet, zones) How will DNS be handled for the second site? 3. Active Directory Number of AD domains and names of those domains Will there be any Read-Only Domain Controllers? How will the second site factor into domain controller placement? How will AD sites be configured? 4. File and Printer Sharing What shares might be needed? (Consider some of the reasoning supplied in the relevant chapter of the textbook.) How will quotas/fsrm be configured? (Consider all aspects, such as thresholds, altering, file screens, and reporting.) Will a DFS namespace be implemented? Your submission will: 1. Be in written format, 6-8 pages in length (not counting diagrams). 2. Include at least one diagram illustrating your chosen Active Directory design with DNS namespace hierarchy. 3. Submit your project from the Module 8 FINAL EXAM (250 Points) Complete the Windows Server Pro Install and Configure Certification exam, which can be accessed from your Home page in LabSim, by 11:59 p.m. MT of Week 8. The exam contains 15 performance-based questions in which you will be asked to complete 63 tasks. You will be allowed 120 minutes (two hours) to complete the exam.
