Connectng the MCU Before you start IMPORTANT: Before nstallng the MCU, you must read the safety nformaton at http://www.codan.com/safety.htm Step one: Connect power Connect the power connector on the rear of the unt to the power supply usng the suppled power cable. (There s no On/Off swtch.) Step two: Connect to Ethernet Port A Connect an Ethernet cable from Ethernet Port A to an Ethernet swtch (rather than a hub, to mnmze nterference from other devces on the network). The Ethernet port s a 10/100/1000 Mbps auto-sensng connecton Only connect to Ethernet Port B f you need to connect the MCU to a second subnet.! Do not connect Ethernet Port A and Ethernet Port B to the same subnet. 4

Intal confguraton Intal confguraton Step one: Connect to the console port 1 Ensure power s connected to the MCU and the Status LED s green. 2 Connect the console port of the MCU to the seral port of your PC usng the blue RJ45 to DB9 cable suppled. 3 Use a seral termnal program, such as Secure CRT or HyperTermnal, to connect to the MCU. Set your termnal software to the followng settngs: Baud rate: 38400 Data bts: 8 Party: none Stop bts: 1 Flow control: none 4 Press Enter and the followng command prompt appears on the termnal: MCU:> Step two: Confgure Ethernet Port A settngs The default settng for the MCU Ethernet ports s auto-sensng mode. If the swtch ports to whch you connect the MCU are not also set to auto-sensng mode, then you need to confgure the MCU Ethernet ports to use the same speed and duplex mode. Only connect to Ethernet Port B f you need to connect the MCU to a second subnet. Both ends of the Ethernet connecton must be confgured n the same way. For example, ether confgure both ends of the lnk to be autosensng or confgure both ends to operate at the same speed and duplex. To establsh a 1000Mbps connecton, both ends of the lnk must be confgured as auto-sensng. 5

To confgure Ethernet Port A, enter the followng for auto-sensng mode: ethertype auto or to confgure a speed and duplex, use the followng command: ethertype <10 100> <half full> To dsplay the current confguraton and status of the Ethernet ports, enter: status For example, to confgure a full-duplex 100Mbps lnk, enter: ethertype 100 full Step three: Assgn an IP address to the MCU (optonal) The default settng for the MCU s to use DHCP to obtan an IP address. You can assgn a statc IP address f you prefer or f a DHCP server s not avalable. If you want the IP address of the MCU to be assgned by your DHCP server, omt ths step. To assgn a statc IP address, use the followng command: statc <IP address> <netmask> <default gateway address> <DNS server address> To establsh a 1000Mbps connecton, both ends of the lnk must be confgured as auto-sensng. If you do not have a DNS server, use 0.0.0.0 as the DNS server IP address. For example, to assgn an address of 192.168.1.2 where the default gateway s at 192.168.1.1, enter: statc 192.168.1.2 255.255.255.0 192.168.1.1 0.0.0.0 To return to usng DHCP after settng a statc address, use the followng command: dhcp Step four: Dscover the IP address of the MCU 1 To dsplay the current status of the IP address, enter: status If you have DHCP enabled on your network and you are allowng the MCU to acqure ts address usng DHCP, the IP address that has been acqured by Ethernet Port A wll be shown; f you have assgned a statc IP address, that s the address that wll be shown. 2 Make a note of the IP address. You wll use ths to access the web nterface of the unt. 6

Confgurng the MCU Confgurng the MCU Step one: Log n to the MCU All admnstraton of the MCU s performed va the web nterface. To log n to the web nterface of the MCU: 1 Use your browser to navgate to the IP address of the MCU (to dscover the IP address, refer to the prevous secton). 2 Clck the Log n lnk on the top rght of the screen, then clck Change log n and enter the user name admn wth no password. Codan recommends that you change the admn account to use a password as soon as possble. To do that, go to Users, clck the admn lnk, and provde the requred user nformaton. Step two: Usng an H.323 gatekeeper or SIP regstrar (optonal) If you have H.323 endponts, usng an H.323 gatekeeper can make t easer for partcpants to call n to a conference. You can confgure the MCU to use an external gatekeeper or ts own bult-n gatekeeper. For nformaton about usng the bult-n gatekeeper, refer to the onlne help. If you have SIP endponts, usng a SIP regstrar can make t easer for partcpants to call n to a conference. To confgure the MCU to use an H.323 gatekeeper: 1 In the web nterface of the MCU, go to Settngs > Gatekeeper. 2 Enable H.323 gatekeeper usage and confgure the settngs you requre, usng the onlne help for further assstance. 3 Clck Apply changes. To confgure the MCU to use a SIP regstrar: 1 In the web nterface, go to Settngs > SIP. 2 Confgure the settngs you requre, usng the onlne help for further assstance. 3 Clck Apply changes. Before you confgure the MCU to use, and regster conferences to, a SIP regstrar, you must set up the MCU and ts conferences on that SIP regstrar. 7

Step three: Add endponts (optonal) One way to add partcpants to a conference that you create s to have the MCU automatcally call them when the conference starts. To do ths, you confgure ther endponts on the MCU. When you set up a conference, you can choose the endponts from the Pre-confgured partcpants lst. Ths s easer than enterng each endpont s detals every tme. Partcpants that are pre-confgured for a conference wll automatcally be called by the MCU to jon that conference. To defne pre-confgured endponts: 1 In the web nterface of the MCU, go to Endponts: To add a H.323 endpont, clck Add H.323 To add a SIP endpont, clck Add SIP To add a VNC screen, clck Add VNC 2 Confgure the endpont settngs you requre, usng the onlne help for further assstance. 3 Clck Add endpont. 8

Usng the MCU Usng the MCU Creatng conferences To create a conference: 1 In the web nterface of the MCU, go to Conferences and clck Add new conference. 2 Type a Name for the conference, for example SalesMeetng. 3 Type an optonal numerc dentfer, for example 123. Ths wll be the telephone number that partcpants can use to jon the conference when callng n to the MCU va a gatekeeper or SIP regstrar. There are two types of conference partcpant: charperson and guest. IDs and PINs allow partcpants to connect to conferences as the correct partcpant type. Charperson partcpants use the Numerc ID and optonally, the PIN; guest partcpants use the Guest numerc ID and optonally, the Guest PIN. For more nformaton, refer to the onlne help. 4 If you are usng a gatekeeper, check H.323 gatekeeper; f you are usng a SIP regstrar, check SIP regstrar. 5 Ensure the Maxmum duraton of the conference s suffcent (the default s one hour). 6 All other values can be left at ther default settngs. Refer to the onlne help for further nformaton about the avalable settngs. Note that f you do not confgure the conference to start mmedately, t wll become a scheduled conference and wll be nactve untl ts start tme. 7 Scroll down and clck Add conference. The conference you have created s now actve (f you used the default mmedate start tme) and partcpants can jon n one of two ways: ether the MCU can call out to specfed endponts or endponts can dal n. Any endponts that have been added to a conference, as pre-confgured partcpants, wll be called n to the conference by the MCU. 9

Callng partcpants n to a conference To call partcpants n to a conference: 1 In the web nterface of the MCU, go to Conferences and clck on the name of an actve conference. 2 On the Partcpants tab, clck Add partcpant to call out to an H.323 or SIP endpont. 3 In the Address feld: where there s no H.323 gatekeeper or SIP regstrar, type the IP address, host name, or SIP URI of an accessble endpont on your network f you are usng an H.323 gatekeeper, enter the number regstered wth the gatekeeper for the requred endpont f you are usng a SIP regstrar, enter the number regstered wth the SIP regstrar for the requred endpont 4 Leave the other felds as ther default values and clck Call endpont. The MCU automatcally connects to the endpont. 5 If the endpont s not confgured to automatcally answer calls, accept the call on the endpont. Callng n to a conference Partcpants can call n to conferences n ether one of two ways: f you have gven the conference a numerc dentfer and you are usng an H.323 gatekeeper or SIP regstrar, tell partcpants to dal the numerc dentfer from ther endpont to jon that conference partcpants can dal the IP address of the MCU to access the auto attendant of the MCU. Partcpants wll see a menu of avalable conferences on ther vdeo screen and wll hear nstructons 10

Usng the MCU Streamng conferences Streamng s a way of vewng a conference n a standard web browser. The MCU allows streamng of vdeo and, f enabled for a conference, the streamng of data. You can also conduct a text chat and add notes and drawngs to the data stream. Note that to use the chat faclty when streamng a conference, your MCU needs the web conferencng feature key. For more nformaton, refer to your reseller. You can confgure two streamng optons on the MCU that wll be avalable for users to choose between when streamng conferences. For each streamng opton, you must choose a meda player (QuckTme, RealPlayer, or Wndows Meda Player) and a bt rate. To confgure streamng optons: 1 In the web nterface of the MCU, go to Settngs > Streamng. 2 Confgure the streamng optons you requre, referrng to the onlne help for more detals about optons. 3 Clck Apply changes. Streamng users wll need to have nstalled one of the meda players that you have chosen for the two streamng optons. Streamng users mght also need to nstall Java (from www.java.com). To stream a conference: 1 In a web browser, go to the IP address of the MCU (or f you are already logged n, go to Home and clck Streamng-only nterface). 2 Type n a Sgn-n name (the name by whch you wll be dentfed f you chat ) and the Conference ID (the numerc dentfer of the conference). 3 Clck Stream ths conference and streamng wll start. 11

Instructng conference partcpants You need to tell conference partcpants how to jon conferences. You can also tell them how to use the Far-End Camera Controls (FECC) to navgate menus n the auto attendant and choose conference layouts. There s a document: Gettng Started: Accessng Conferences avalable n the documentaton area of the web ste, whch you can prnt out and gve to conference partcpants. Checkng for updates It s a good dea to regularly check for updates to the man MCU software mage. Ths secton descrbes how to upgrade the MCU usng the web. Note that you can also upgrade the MCU usng FTP; ths can be more relable f you are upgradng the devce remotely. Upgradng your devce va FTP s descrbed n the release notes that are avalable alongsde the software mages n the support secton of the web ste.
