Produc Descripion Insallaion and User Guide Transiser Dimmer (454) The DIN rail mouned 454 is a 4channel ransisor dimmer. I can operae in one of wo modes; leading edge or railing edge. All 4 channels operae in he same seleced mode, wih each channel capable of conrolling 2.2 A. I suppors capaciive and resisive loads and can be conneced direcly o mains volage lamps, and low volage lamps wih elecronic ransformers. The 454 is no for use wih inducive loads. Each channel of he dimmer has boh curren and hermal proecion. The dimmer feaures an LED 7segmen display. There is a push buon user inerface for monioring, manual configuraion and conrol purposes. Power Up During power up, he following sequence is displayed on he LED Conrol Panel. Each display is held for one second. A he end of his sequence, he Saus display appears. Sarup Sequence: 1. Power SDIM / DMX indicaor aciviy indicaor Key and LED Descripions: Oupu mimics: 1, 2, 3 & 4 Sofware override indicaor power / aciviy indicaor Power indicaor The power indicaor (op segmen of he middle digi) is always on when he 454 is powered up. Hardware (wired) override indicaor SDIM / DMX aciviy indicaor The SDIM / DMX aciviy indicaor (cenre segmen of he middle digi) is normally off, and flashes on inermienly if any SDIM / DMX aciviy (communicaions) is direced o a channel wihin he dimmer. Oupu mimics The oupu mimics (1, 2, 3 and 4) are illuminaed when he dimmed oupus are on, and no illuminaed when he dimmed oupus are off. Sofware override indicaor The decimal poin on he lef is illuminaed o indicae sofware override from he override es menu. power / aciviy indicaor The indicaor (boom segmen of he middle digi) is off if here is no power, and on if power is presen. If any aciviy is direced o a channel wihin he device, he indicaor blinks off. Navigaing he 454 Menu The saus display LEDs on he fron of he uni are li in he following way from power on: Navigae hrough he 454 menus using he up / down push buons locaed on he fron of he uni. Navigae he 454 menu o configure he uni. Cycle hrough he menu: 1) Press boh buons simulaneously o cycle hrough he menus. Tip! To cycle hrough he menus quickly, keep holding down boh buons. Selec he desired channel o modify: 2) A your chosen funcion, quickly press up or down buon o scroll hrough he channel desinaions. These are he channels ha will be affeced by he following seings. Noe: Selec ALL o aler all channels simulaneously. Modify funcion seings: 3) Hold up or down buons o aler he levels, seings, fade imes, oupu modes and oher seings. See secion 7 for furher deails. Noe: LEDs blink if he value has been changed and no ye sored. Save changes: 4) Hold boh buons ogeher o save he change. The LEDs will show 888 for 1 second o confirm seing is sored. Reurn o previous screen To reurn o a previous screen, do no press he buons for a shor ime. Back o saus display 10 seconds of inaciviy reurns he 454 o he Saus Display screen. 10 sec Tip! Configuring he 454 Various seings can be configured via he conrol panel. Saus Display / Se Channel Level Se Channel Levels (0 % 100 %) by using he push buons in Saus menu. Selec he channel(s) o change, hen hold he up or down buon o aler levels. For furher informaion, refer o he Quick Sar Guide in Secion 10. Noe 1: You can access Saus Display / Se channel level mode whils he device is in override mode, bu i is no possible o change he channel levels. Noe 2: DMX updaes are disabled while using manual conrol. Se SDIM / DMX Address Se he SDIM or DMX address for each channel. Selec bas o se he S DIM or DMX base address. SDIM: 252 addresses available. DMX: 512 addresses available. Se Address Se he address for each channel. Selec bas o se he base address. : 64 addresses available. Enable/Disable DMX Enable or disable DMX from his menu. When DMX is enabled ( On ) i will use he SDIM address. There is no channel selec opion; i is a global seing. Noe: DMX is disabled by defaul. Se Dimming mode: Leading or Trailing Selec Trailing or Leading edge dimming from his menu. Noe: in eiher dimming mode, he 454 can dim only noninducive loads. All 4 channels operae in he same seleced mode. The defaul dimming mode is Trailing edge. Dimmed Oupu Table Selecion The oupus can be configured o mach common loads via he Oupu Table Selecion ( ) menu. See able below for a brief summary of oupu ypes. Override Level The override level can be configured for individual relay channels or ALL channels and ranges from 0 o 100. I can be manually esed via he override es funcion ( Or ) Noe 1: When SDIM/DMX is conneced, he override seings in he rouer (configured using Designer sofware) will ake precedence over he device s override seings, unless you configure he sofware o use he device override seings. Noe 2: When he uni is running in override, he lef decimal poin is illuminaed and he middle digi of he screen flashes in he saus screen. Override Tes Tes ha he override level (se in he previous mode) funcions as required, by choosing ON or OFF. The uni performs as if an override has been caused by he override inpu connecion. Noe 1: By swiching his seing o ON i will no be possible o manually edi he channel levels in Saus Display / Se Channel Level menu. Noe 2: To change he channel levels, ensure ha override is swiched off. SwichOn Level (SDIM / DMX only) Se he Swichon levels for SDIM / DMX channels. SDIM: 2 % 64 % (Defaul 2 %); DMX: 0.1 % 64 % (Defaul 0.1 %) Se Minimum Level ( only) Se he minimum level for channels. : 0.1 % 100 % (Defaul 0.1 %) Noe: The minimum level value will be overridden if he 454 is conneced o a 910 or 920 rouer sysem. Hyseresis (SDIM only) Selec On or Off o acivae/deacivae hyseresis. By defaul, hyseresis is off. When hyseresis is on, he swichoff level is 80 % of he swichon level. A or below he swichoff level, he channel will be off. For example, if he swichon level is 50 % and he signal rises o his level or above o urn he channel on, hen if he signal falls o 40 % or below, he channel urns off. Resore o Facory Defaul Hold he up or down buons for 10 seconds in his menu. The decimal poins will ligh up in sequence, and hen all LEDs will be on for 1 second o confirm ha facory seings have been resored. Oupu Informaion Below you will find deailed informaion on choosing he correc oupu ype (T0 o T6) for your lighing sysem. To configure he oupus selec TAB from he main saus display of he 454 uni. See page 6 for furher informaion., SDIM AND DMX OUTPUTS SDIM AND DMX OUTPUTS Non Dim Selec Non Dim for simple swichon and swichoff of non dimmable loads., SDIM and DMX proocols can be used wih T0. All swiching is a he zerocrossing poin. Loads mus be railingedge compaible i.e. No inducive loads mus be used. Noe: Under SDIM conrol, 1 is he defaul oupu ype. Linear Selec Linear [T 1] if you inend o use SDIM or DMX wih a linear dim from 0 % o 100 % wih respec o conrol. Linear is a general purpose law ha gives conrol of power from 0 o full power. Square Selec Square [T 2] if you inend o use SDIM or DMX wih a curve ha conforms o he IES Square Law. Conrol is from 0 o full power. SLaw Selec SLaw [T 3] if you inend o use SDIM or DMX wih he oupu power being in an S curve forma. Noe: Selecing an SDIM curve whils in or vice versa will resul in a reduced conrol range. DIMMED OUTPUTS Noe: Under conrol, 4 is he defaul oupu ype. logarihmic Selec Logarihmic [T 4] if you inend o use wih he oupu power following he sandard logarihmic curve wih incandescen lamps as per IEC sandard 62386205. SSL Curve Selec SSL Curve [T 5] if you inend o use wih a curve ha works bes wih solid sae lamps. This is similar o he Helvar 452 dimmer curve. Troubleshooing Before conacing Helvar Suppor, please check he following, as i may provide a soluion o he problem ha you have encounered, or help our suppor eams idenify he problem. Noe: Some of he following error messages are preceded by he channel which caused he error. Trip Indicaes ha a channel on he 454 uni has ripped. rp flashes are preceded by he channel ha has been ripped. To resume normal operaion on he channel, press eiher buon on he 454 user inerface. If ha does no resore he rip, recycle he power o he uni. Ho Indicaes ha he 454 uni is geing oo ho. The 454 uni will aemp o auomaically reduce he oupu level o a safe emperaure. To ensure ha he uni does no ge oo ho, insall he 454 in an area wih sufficien venilaion and siuae he uni a an ample disance beween oher unis on he DIN rail. Make sure ha he load per channel does no exceed 2.2 A. Trip Temperaure Indicaes ha he 454 uni has ripped because he uni emperaure became oo high. o C flashes are followed by he channel ha has been ripped. This screen succeeds he Ho warning above if he 454 is unable o reduce he oupu level o a safe level. Trip Loads Indicaes ha a paricular channel (s) has ripped because he emperaure has risen oo fas or he wrong load ype is conneced. This occurs when he wrong loads are used. Check he loads conneced o he 454 and make sure ha hey are railing edge compaible. Do no use wirewound ransformers. Communicaions Error (SDIM / DMX only) Indicaes a problem wih he SDIM or DMX communicaions. Please check wiring and erminaions. Make sure ha no wo channels have he same addresses on he nework and ha he SDIM / DMX mode is seleced correcly. Imporan Consideraions See below for oher imporan consideraions. Do no connec and SDIM / DMX a he same ime. Some lamps may flicker if dimmed below heir raed minimum level. If his occurs, change he min. level () or swichon level (SDIM / DMX) appropriaely. If using a 910 or 920 rouer o conrol he dimmer, hese seings may be changed using Helvar Designer sofware. If DMX does no work, make sure ha i has been swiched on in he dmx menu, and hen se he DMX addresses in he Ads menu.
