WIGHTMAN MOBILITY BASICS How to Set Up Your Vocemal 1. On your phone s dal screen, press and hold 1 to access your vocemal. If your phone has a vocemal button, you can use t nstead. 2. Follow the voce prompts to set up your voce malbox. 3. After setup s complete, press and hold 1 on your phone s keypad (or use the vocemal button) any tme you want to check your messages. Check your messages usng Wghtman's Vocemal to Emal. Open your emal nbox & lsten to messages as audo fles when you want to save your mnutes. Gve us a call and we'll help you set t up. If you check your messages outsde of your local callng area, your call wll also count towards your long dstance mnutes. Roamng charges wll apply whle roamng. Moble Long Dstance When you make or receve a call on Wghtman's moble network, that call s defned as local or long dstance based on your local callng area. There are two knds of local callng areas on a moble network: an ncomng local callng area (ILCA) and an outgong local callng area (OLCA). Recevng Calls (ILCA) Always the same Your ncomng local callng area s determned by the local callng area of your phone number. Every call that your receve whle you're n your ILCA s a local call. If you are outsde your ILCA, every call you receve s a long dstance call. LOCAL LONG DISTANCE How to Manage Your Data Usage How much data are you usng? Snce every emal, vdeo, and webpage s dfferent, t can be hard to fgure out! Here are a few tps to help you manage your data use: Sendng & recevng photos, musc, & vdeo uses more data than just text. The hgher qualty the meda, the more data t uses. Some apps use data. Some use a lttle, some use a lot. Track your usage when you try a new app to make sure you understand just how much data t uses. Automatc updates can use up a lot of data wthout your knowledge. Check the update settngs n your apps to save your data. Use W-F whenever possble. When you use a W-F sgnal to connect to the nternet, you don't use any data from your plan. Makng Calls (OLCA) Changes as you move Your outgong local callng area s determned by your physcal locaton. For example, f you are n Owen Sound and you call a frend n Toronto, t wll be a long dstance call. But f you are n Toronto and you call that same frend, t wll be a local call. LOCAL LONG DISTANCE Knowng how much data you use each month s up to you. Usng more data than what your plan allows wll result n an overage fee of 12 /MB. Most phones have a bult-n usage counter, but you can also download apps to help you manage your monthly data use. 1 2
What s Roamng? Smply put, roamng s usng your Wghtman moble devce n a locaton that s not servced by Wghtman Telecom. Specfcally, Wghtman Moblty customers "roam" anywhere outsde of Canada. Internatonal roamng rates apply whle travellng to the U.S. When you roam, your phone uses wreless networks belongng to one of our roamng partners. When you are roamng, all ncomng and outgong calls, text messages, pcture & vdeo messages, and nternet usage (data) wll be charged a roamng rate that s specfc to the regon you are vstng. For more nformaton on roamng rates, please call Wghtman Customer Care. How Do I Know f I'm Roamng? As soon as you leave Wghtman's servce area, you wll receve a text message tellng you that you are roamng. You phone wll also dsplay the name of the provder wth whch you are roamng. There are tmes when your phone may roam, even f you are n Canada. For example, f you are vstng Nagara Falls, ON and the nearest Canadan tower s too busy to accept your call, your phone may swtch to the tower n Nagara Falls, NY. Roamng rates wll apply. Fndng My Phone Can't remember where you set your phone down? Or maybe you thnk t's been stolen. Thanks to the Androd Devce Manager, you can easly fnd, lock, or erase your phone from any devce wth nternet access. To set up Androd Devce Manager on your phone, smply turn on your GPS servce and vst www.google.com/androd/devcemanager. Follow the drectons there to set up remote lockng and wpng of your devce. There are also other phone-fndng apps avalable from the Google Play Store and from Samsung. Choose the app that sutes your needs best. Hardware Return Polcy You can return your devce to Wghtman and receve a full refund f the devce: s returned wthn 15 days from the date of purchase, has not exceeded 30 mnutes of artme usage and/or 50 MB of data usage, and s n "lke new" condton. ANDROID BASICS Contacts Movng Your Contacts A) If your prevous phone was an Androd devce and you have backed up your contacts to your Google Account, your contacts wll move wth you when you sgn n on your new devce. B) If your prevous phone was not an Androd devce, here s how to move your contacts to your new phone. On your old phone, back up your contacts to your SD card On your new Androd devce 1. Insert your SD card 2. Open the Contacts app 3. Tap the menu key 4. Choose Import/Export 5. Choose Import from USB storage 6. Choose the contacts you want to mport 7. Choose the locaton you want them mported to Addng New Contacts 1. Open the Contacts app 2. Tap the + con 3. Choose the locaton you want to save the contact 4. Enter the contact's nformaton 5. Tap Save Backng Up Your Contacts 1. Open the Settngs app 2. Tap the Accounts tab & choose Google Account 3. Tap on your Google Account 4. Select "Contacts" from the lst f t s not selected already 5. Tap the settngs con n the top rght and then tap Sync now 6. Your contacts wll sync. You can vew and work wth your contacts at google.ca/contacts Emal Set-Up Gmal Account If you move to a new Androd phone, your contacts wll follow you automatcally when you sgn nto your Google Account from your new devce. Your Google Account can back up much more than just contacts! Back up tems lke your browser favourtes & W-F passwords. 1. Open the Gmal app ( ) 2. If you have a Gmal account select Exstng and enter your emal address and password 3. If you don't have a Gmal account, select New and follow the prompts to create a new account Wghtman Account 1. Open the Androd Mal app ( ) 2. Enter your Wghtman emal address & password. Tap next 3. Choose POP3 4. Enter ncomng mal settngs Username s your address before the '@' sgn Server name s 'mal.wghtman.ca' Port must be set to '110' 5. Enter outgong mal settngs Server name s 'smtp.wghtman.ca' Port must be set to '587' usng STARTTLS Check "requre sgn-n" Tap Done, then Next 6. W-F Setup 1. Open the Settngs app 2. Under Wreless and Network, choose W-F 3. Drag the swtch from OFF to ON to turn W-F on 4. Your devce wll automatcally search for avalable W-F sgnals. Once your devce has found all the avalable networks, t wll ask you to choose whch one you want to connect to 5. If a password s requred to log onto the W-F network, enter t and your devce wll connect TIPS & TRICKS Battery Lfe Extend the lfe of your battery by confgurng the followng system settngs: 1. Turn off data, W-F, Bluetooth, and GPS when not n use 2. Reduce the number of apps runnng 3. Turn off data roamng Turnng data roamng off not only ncreases battery lfe, but t can also save you money! By leavng data roamng off, you'll only roam when you want to. Your Androd devce wll remember a network once t has connected to t, and wll connect automatcally to that network whenever t s avalable. Troubleshootng Securty Wghtman Moblty and Samsung are not responsble for damage, loss, or breach of prvacy caused by unauthorzed access to your devce or by malcous or llegal software. Wghtman Telecom recommends that you use securty on your phone to protect your personal nformaton. Samsung and Androd both nclude several securty measures that are easy to set up and use. They range from lockng your phone wth a password, to lockng your SIM, to encryptng your entre devce. Choose the securty that's best for you, rememberng that your phone may contan as much personal nformaton as your wallet. Connecton Issues W-F: Turn your W-F off and on agan If ths does not resolve the ssue, restart your phone Calls: Restart your phone Take your battery out and put t back n Take your SIM card out, rub the contacts wth your thumb and put t back n Performance Issues Your phone's performance depends on a lot of thngs. How many apps you're runnng, how full your phone's memory s, your network or W-F connecton, and the speed of your phone's processor all contrbute to how fast your phone works and how long the battery lasts. If your phone's performance slows suddenly, try closng or unnstallng recent apps, or try turnng off your W-F. If all else fals, restart your phone. Sometmes that's all t takes. 7 8
