1 Project Rendering & Plan Set Development The following lab has been developed for CCE 203, and covers items relative to the course requirements. For additional information, training, and tutorials visit Autodesk - Revit Architecture. Rendering the 3D Model The last steps in our building project of Kearney Hall requires the final documents be developed for actual construction. This includes creating all the necessary sheets we defined earl y in the project, as well as a 3D rendering to use for out cover page. Renderings allow the owner to better visualize the final product at a higher level of graphical detail than simply examining 2D plans. We will first address creating the title block, then creating the cover page, render the 3D image, and populate the page with additional useful information. 1. Open Revit in the Properties dialogue box select Sheets --right click and select New Sheet the folder Titleblocks select sheet size 17x22 (ANSI C) Open Select the sheet size again and OK. Once the sheet opens double click on title block elements to change to reflect your name, date, etc. When you are done editing select the small X in upper right hand corner to close the editing the sheet but be careful not to close Revit. Select Yes when asked if you want to change the sheet but rename it by appending your initials to the sheet and save it in your project folder and NOT on the hard drive. 2. Sheet G100 was defined as our cover page (General 100). To place the 3D model into this sheet, simply drag the Kearney Hall Rendering into the sheet G100 Cover Page. - In order to fit the 3D view on the page, navigate to the viewport s Properties menu and select a new View Scale. Here, a 1 = 10-0 has been selected

2 - Also, you can delete the title bar under the viewport by selecting the viewport > Edit Type > and set the Show Title option to No 3. Move the viewport around until you are happy with its location. Keep in mind you will need to add in a title bar and design information 4. Next, select the viewport and click the Activate View option under Modify Viewports > Viewport. - Adjust he image to an appealing view angle - As we have added the view directly to this sheet, any changes you make here will not affect the actual 3D layer in the project browser. 5. Next, expand the G100 Cover Page sheet in the project browser and activate the 3D View: Kearney Hall Rendering. This will allow us to render the image for the sheet. - Select the little teapot icon at the bottom of the screen, the Show Rendering Dialogue option. - The Rendering dialogue will open - For now, simply click Render, and Revit will render the image with the current settings. This is a time consuming process and is very resource intensive for the computer to perform. The results can be quite interesting. - You re encouraged to experiment with the different options available for rendering to make a unique presentation of the final project.

3 - The last step requires you to save the render to the project. While still in the Render dialogue select the Save to Project option > and click the ensuring prompt. The rendered image will now appear in your project browser where it can be added to the cover sheet - You can now delete the original 3D layer from the G100 Cover Sheet and leave the new rendering.

4 Developing the Plan Set Next, we will finish out the rest of the project by developing the plan set we first established at the beginning of the term. Here, we will address only a number of sheets of interest, however, you will need to complete the remaining sheets accordingly. First let s work with the First Floor Plan. Double click the sheet A101 First Floor Plan in the project browser to open the view. 1. Scroll upward to find the 1.0 First Floor Plan we have developed and annotated earlier. 2. Click and drag this layer into the space of the A101 First Floor Plan titleblock to place the layer - Initially the scale will be to large for the titleblock area - Under the Properties menu, set the view scale to 1/16 = 1-0, this will place the viewport of the first floor within the constraints of the sheets titleblock 3. If you find some of the annotations you created have become scaled and clutter the image, you can select the viewport and click Activate Viewport under Modify Viewports > Viewport - This activates the view so you can manipulate it within the sheet A101 First Floor Plan layer - Do so to refine the rest of the drawing so the layout is appropriate - To deactivate the viewport and return to editing the titleblock, double click the A101 First Floor Plan in the project browser 4. If we examine sheet A101 from the original plan set used to develop this model, we see there are legends and general notes presented. You should include relevant information to the layer in a General Notes form

5 - To add text to the sheet, simply select the Text option under Annotate > Text and enter in relevant information - Items to consider: o Where to find door/window schedules o Where to find structural information o What may be new or existing work o What are typical wall types, etc. o North Arrow (we never established true north for the project, to do so: A. Navigate to the site plan B. Set the Orientation under Properties to True North C. Under Manage > Project Location > Position > Rotate True North > and enter a rotation angle of 112 West D. Be sure you set all your other views to Project North rather than True North as True North will make it difficult to read the plans o Title for the view

6 5. Lastly, be sure to fill in the titleblock information: - Assignment # - Due Date - Author - And anyone who has reviewed your work Next, let s focus on cross sections. We haven t strictly placed or created any as of this point in time. And we will do so for the first floor view. 1. From the A101 First Floor Plan sheet, activate the viewport 2. Under View > Create > Section select section - Click from the top of the building, along it s centerline, and click outside the bottom of the structure as indicated to the right - You can adjust the direction, the view depth, orientation, etc. by clicking on the section line and adjusting the various symbols like you would a door direction. 3. Go ahead and place a second section spanning from left to right across the project 4. Next, you will notice a new Sections (Building Section) layer has been created in the project browser. This is what you will load into you sheet A300 Building Sections - The process is the same as we ran through the first time with one exception. Once you have placed a section view on a sheet, the section will be named according to sheet it was placed in.

7 - You are encouraged to add more sections to better define your project. Below, only the two we have discussed are presented. Continue on with creating the rest of the project sheets, keeping in mind annotations and layouts are very important to completing the overall work. Some example sheets have been provided in the following pages.

10 Printing Select Revit Icon R Print- Select Printer as Bluebeam PDF. Print Range Select views/sheets Select select the sheets (optional to save as a print set). Paper size: ANSI C Placement: Center Setting: Setup Zoom change to zoom and 100%. Print. Open in Bluebeam and edit.

11 Open Bluebeam and Edit Open Bluebeam Revu. Select the show multiple pages icon.

12 Open the AutoMark tool (shown below) to create page numbers from labels on your drawing. Select all pages for the Page Range and use the page region.

13 Use the rectangle tool to draw a rectangle around the page number on your sheets. Then ok. This changes the page numbers to match your sheets. Save.

14 Takeaway We covered quite a bit in this last lab, though the steps addressed above are relatively simple in appearance, there is a lot of work required to produce the final sheets. 1. Rendering can best be used to describe the overall finished view of a project. It serves as a means of visualizing the outcome of the construction effort for owners, designers, and constructors alike. 2. Rendering is a time consuming process, and can be enhanced through ensuring your material choices and rendering patterns are accurate. 3. As we covered annotations in an earlier lab, much of the work for developing the final project is simply placing and scaling drawing views into our sheets 4. A nice feature (and perhaps the most powerful) of Revit is that it allows for multiple sheets to be developed from a single model. Doing so can: - Save production time - Allow changes to made globally to all views of the project - Encourages design continuity 5. Lastly, sections and details can be created in various project views that can be used to populate sheets in the project. Annotating these objects can better define the project specific elements necessary to facilitate its construction.
