Hilf (ISN), Karl Pentzlin (DIN) Summary This document contains additional notes on selected members of a proposed repertoire of nautical symbols used in running text, in particular those not covered by fonts officially distributed for viewing Notices to Mariners. For the most recent draft of the proposal see: 1. Symbols to be Proposed based on Document Survey The following table lists sample images for various symbols found in the document survey, excluding those which are covered by the officially distributed fonts. Some images consist of more than one character, in which case a thin dashed rectangle shows the character of interest. The colors for various symbols shown here are as they were found in the samples. (In nautical charts, certain symbols are printed in a contrasting color, usually magenta, to make them more noticeable). For Unicode purposes, these would be ordinary black and white symbols. The sizes in the shape column are somewhat arbitrary they are an artifact of the magnification settings for the source document during the screenshot. Where two symbols should match in size, that is called out. The source column gives a shorthand pointer to the source document for the citation (see notes at end). 11 #39 #41 and #51 #52 are straightforward analogues to other proposed characters and do not pose any new issues. (***) The two arrows are found as part of a compound symbol in the KB (krt0766): but it appears as if that could have been composed as a three text line stack, hence the tentative recommendation to encode each arrow separately. The matching dashed line occurs by itself.
