1 For making VR compatible images with Maya rendered scenes Step 1: Ensure your scene is in its final mode, all empty space in a Maya scene will be seen as white backround in the VR headset. Step 2: Download the Domemaster 3D plugin found here Domemaster 3D plugin And the Over Under Photoshop load action found here OverUnder Load Action

2 Step 3: Unzip the Domemaster 3D plugin, and run the install file located in the folder. If needed call Ms. Clark for help with the administrator password, it will ask for it twice.

3 Important: If you receive an error stating that it cannot be opened because it is from an unidentified developer ask Ms. Clark to insert the password to change the security settings in the area shown.

4 Step 4: Run the installer for Domemaster 3D plugin, and follow all steps on the wizard. When asked what specific packages to install, click the Maya 2015 version package.

5 Step 5: After installing the Domemaster 3D plugin, your Maya toolbar will now have a new bar labeled Domemaster3D, as well as a dock in the Maya interface itself.

6 Step 6: The plugin gives access to a new type of camera that gives the VR image type that we need. It is located under the Domemaster hotbar, and is under Dome Cameras > Latlong Stereo Camera. When placed in the scene it should look like the image shown. Step 7: Certain changes need to be made to the settings to make sure this camera set works well with our Maya scenes. With the camera rig still selected, open the Attribute Editor, navigate to the Center_LatLog_Stereo tab > select the LatLong Stereo Shader section.

7 Field of View: These sliders control what range of the scene the camera will render in the X (Horizontal) and Y (Vertical) axis. Leave these at default, because a 360 x 180 image is what we re trying to achieve. Camera Separation: This slider determines the distance between the left and right cameras. In most circumstances, you want this to be the average distance between the center of your eyes of 2.5 inches. Zero Parallax Distance: The Zero Parallax Distance is located where the cameras lines of sight converge, aka, the Focal Distance. Objects located at the Zero Parallax Distance will not have any 3D effect, while objects located in front the the Zero Parallax Distance have Positive Parallax and will appear to pop out of the screen, and objects behind the Zero Parallax Distance have Negative Parallax and will appear to be further away. Set this to the distance close to the center of all of the objects in your scene. Zenith Mode: Leave this box unchecked for now. This setting allows our camera rig to work in either a horizontal (unchecked) or vertical orientation (checked).

8 Step 8: Now that these settings are finished you can go to the render settings to fix a few other settings before rendering. You first need to change the renderable camera to the stereo pair camera, and then change the resolution of the images to a 4:1 ratio. Most phones, which will be used to view these, can only handle 1024x256. Step 9: After changing and confirming everything you can now render your frame with these cameras. The frames will be saved in two folders called LatlongCameraLeft and LatlongCameraRight, respective to the eye they represent.

9 Step 10: Make sure both images are located in a place you can easily find them. Then open Photoshop, and choose the action bar, and click load actions. Locate the OverUnder Load Action downloaded earlier and open it.

10 Step 11: At the bottom of the actions pane the OverUnder Load Action can be found. Click the Over Under Formatter, and then the Play button at the bottom row. Locate the left image first, and then the right image at the second prompt. This will create an image with the left eye image on top, and the right on the bottom.

11 Step 12: Save the newly created image, and use Drive or some other tool to get the image on the phone or device you will be using. Then navigate to the elevr Picture Player, choose the Equirectangular 3D option in the bottom right, and then the folder icon also in the bottom right. Navigate to where you have the image saved and open it.

12 Step 13: Enjoy your Maya scene in full VR on a VR headset!
