Percussionensemblemusicis,insomeways,differentfromthepartsyoumayhaveplayedin yourschoolband.percussionensemble,byitsverynature,allowspercussioniststoplayamore prominentroleinthemusicmakingexperience.percussionensemblemusicalsocallson performerstomakeuseoftheir"totalpercussion"skills.onsomepiecesyoumaybecalledon toplayavarietyofinstruments.thosestudentswhoauditionedonmalletswillmostlyplay malletpercussionparts.occasionally,however,youmaybeaskedtoplaysimplebattery percussionparts.likewise,thosewhoauditionedonbatterypercussion,mayalsobeaskedto playmalletpartsattimes. 3 Congratulations on becoming a member of the 2013 CJMEA Percussion Ensemble! You will be playing 3 great pieces; Clap Happy for body percussion, Paschal Dances a great, university level piece for 12 percussionists and piano, and a fun latin piece, El Cumbanchero, that I have done with many percussion ensembles not only in NJ, but in Europe as well! I have included links to video and audio recordings for you to watch, listen to and above all, help you practice. This is a challenging program, and WE HAVE ONLY 3 REHEARSALS to put it together. It is therefore absolutely necessary for you to practice this BEFORE you attend the first rehearsal on December 15th. There is to be NO SIGHTREADING AT REHEARSAL!!! Please be sure to reference the links when doing your practice. IMPORTANT! - If you have any page turn issues with your music, make sure that you make photocopies of pages with problems so that you can successfully play through those sections of the music. Attached is a list of notes, instruments/ sticks and mallets you will need to supply. ALL PLAYERS MUST BRING 2 SHARPENED PENCILS AND A TOWEL TO PUT STICKS/ SMALL INTRUMENTS ON.
