QUESTION 1: (25 MARKS) ANSWER ALL QUESTIONS (a) The following code segments are erroneous. Correct the error(s) in each segment of code below. i) if ( x = 1 ); cout << x; ii) int x = 1; while ( x < 10 ); cout << x; x ++ ; iii) if ( 1 < x < 5 ) cout << x; iv) double money = ; double return = * money; cout<< setprecision(2) << fixed; cout<< "The return on your money is Rs" << return; v) cout << "Two plus two is " 2+2; (5 marks) Page 2 of 8
(b) If X and Y are Boolean variables, then the expression (!X) (!Y) is equivalent to which of the following conditions: a) (! (X && Y)) b) (! (X Y)) c) (!X) && (!Y) d) true (c) The Fibonacci numbers are defined as follows: (2 marks) fibonacci (0) = 1 fibonacci (1) = 1 fibonacci (n) = fibonacci (n 1) + fibonacci (n 2); Write a recursive C++ function to compute the Fibonacci numbers. (3 marks) (d) Write the output of the following code fragment. int a = 5, b = 6, c = 7, n = 3; cout << a + b * c - c % n << endl; cout << a / n << endl; (2.5 marks) (e) Write the output of the following segments of code. int x = 17; while ( x%3!= 0 ) { cout << x / 3 << "\n"; x = x + 2; (1.5 marks) Page 3 of 8
(f) Give the output of the following C++ function. cout << setprecision(3); cout << 3/2 << "x" << 3.0/2 << "x" << 1.0/3.0; (2 marks) (g) Consider the following code fragment const int wordlen = 21; char mesg[wordlen]; cout<< Enter a sentence << endl; cin.getline(mesg, wordlen, \n ); cout<<mesg<<endl; i. What will be the resulting output of the code fragment if the user types the following line as input and presses the Enter key? Please go away. ii. If instead the user type the following line and presses the Enter key, what will be the resulting output of the code fragment? Please stop bothering me. (4 marks) (h) Write short notes on Arrays paying particular attention to 1D Arrays, 2D Arrays and memory allocation. (5 marks) QUESTION 2: (25 MARKS) (a) Using appropriate C++ examples, differentiate between a Logical Error, a Syntax Error and a Runtime error. (6 marks) Page 4 of 8
(b) (c) Write a for loop, that prints out the multiples of 3 up through 75 separated by a blank space (2 marks) Give two advantages of using functions to modularise a program? (2 marks) (d) Write a C++ program that will display a calculator menu as shown below. The program should prompt the user to choose the operation choice (from 1 to 5). The program should then ask the user to input two integer values for the calculation. The program should also ask the user to decide whether he/she wants to continue the operation. If he/she input y, the program will prompt the user to choose the operation again. Otherwise, the program should terminate. The answer should include the following: i. Appropriate function definitions based on the following prototypes; void displaymenu(); int Add(int a,int b); int Subtract(int a, int b); int Multiply(int a, int b); float Divide(int a,int b); Page 5 of 8
int Modulus(int a, int b); ii. Use of switch statement as appropriate. iii. Use of explicit type casting as appropriate. QUESTION 3: (25 MARKS) (15 marks) (a) (b) Write a program that reads a sequence of non-negative integers, terminated by -1, from the terminal and writes them in the file myfile.txt. (3 marks) Searching is the process of finding particular element of an array or list. Two common searching algorithms are the Linear Search and Binary Search. With proper explanation and diagrams, explain and differentiate between these two searching algorithms. (c) Bubble Sort is a common sorting algorithm. (6 marks) i. Give two advantages and one disadvantage of Bubble Sort. ii. Write C++ code to implement the Bubble Sort algorithm. (d) (3+6 marks) Briefly explain the difference between passing parameters by value and passing parameters by reference. (3 marks) (e) Explain and differentiate between shallow and deep copy of pointers. Use diagrams to support your answer. (4 marks) Page 6 of 8
QUESTION 4: (25 MARKS) (a) The class interfaces of a linked list node and a linked list are provided below. Class Interface of Linked List Node }; class listnode { private: int value; listnode* next; public: listnode(); listnode(int x); void setvalue(int x); int getvalue(); void setnext(listnode *nextnode); listnode* getnext(); ~listnode(); Class Interface of Linked List }; class linkedlist { private: listnode* root; public: linkedlist(); listnode* get_head(); bool emptylist(); void addlistbegin(listnode *temp); void addlistend(listnode *temp); void addlistorder(listnode *temp); void displayall(); int listcount(); listnode* searchlist(int item); void deletenode(int item); Kindly refer to the above Class Interfaces and answer the following questions: i. What is a constructor? Page 7 of 8
ii. iii. iv. Identify two constructors from above. Differentiate between public and private class members. Explain the concept of function overloading. v. Identify a function overloading from above. vi. vii. Identify a destructor. Write the implementation of the following function prototypes: a) listnode(int x); b) void setvalue(int x); c) listnode* getnext(); d) bool emptylist(); e) void addlistbegin(listnode *temp); f) void addlistend(listnode *temp); g) int listcount(); ( marks) (b) Given that CheckStack is a stack of integers with the following private data: top: 5 items: What is the output of the following C++ code, if top is considered to be the array index of the top of the stack? int x; while (!CheckStack.isEmpty()) { CheckStack.pop(x); cout << x << " "; } (4 marks) ***END OF QUESTION PAPER*** Page 8 of 8
