(ii) List three rules concerning the use of identifiers (3 marks) (b) Suppose a, b and c are integer variables that have been assigned the values a = 7, b = 2 and c =-5. Determine the value of each of the following arithmetic expressions: (i) a / b (ii) a % b (iii) a / c (iv) a % c (v) a * (c / b) (5 marks) (c) (i) What is the purpose of the #include<> statement in C++? (d) With the help of an appropriate example write the generic format for a WHILE LOOP? (3 marks) (e) You are working as a programmer at the Mauritius Petangue Association. You are required to write a C++ program to register the participants of a tournament by entering their names, age and contact details. Your program should categorize the participants according to their age and display their categories according to the following: The age entered by the user is assumed to be an integer number. Age range Category displayed 1-20 kids minime cadet Junior senior > 100 invalid age You are required to write the program using the Switch case statement. Do not forget to add any special library you might need for this program. (10 marks) Page 4 of 8

5 QUESTION 3: (25 MARKS) (a) In what way does an array differ from an ordinary variable? (b) What conditions must be satisfied by all of the elements of any given array? (1 mark) (c) Consider the following two character array definitions: char color[5] = "BLACK"; char color5[ ] = "BLACK"; Explain the difference between the above two character array definitions. (4 marks) (d) Describe the array that is defined in each of the following statements: (i) char name[20]; (ii) int myarray[4][5]; (iii) #define P float mynum[p]; (e) Write a C++ program using functions to do the following: (i) To display a menu from which the user can choose to execute a task. (See screenshot on the next page). (ii) To do some arithmetic operations (e.g. add, subtract, multiply, division, modulus) on two integer numbers. (iii) To ask the user to continue or to stop Page 5 of 8

7 QUESTION 4: (25 MARKS) (a) Consider the following database about laptops. It consists of laptop brand, owner, RAM in GB and price in Rs. Using this laptop database, illustrate the process of (i) how to define a structure with tag name laptop (ii) how to declare structure variables, say laptop1 and laptop2. (iii) how to enter the values in the table for the five Laptops. (Tips: use a FOR loop) (3 marks) (iv) how to change the Brand of Laptop[1] from HP to Dell and display the new Brand. (v) How to increase the Price of Laptop 5 by 1 % and display the new Price. (b) What is a queue? List two real life applications of a queue in a computing environment. (3 marks) Page 7 of 8
