3 BEFORE YOU BEGIN GENERAL Thank you for choosing this advanced and high quality camera. Before connecting or operating this product, please read these instructions carefully. These instructions cover the entire range of the GE series of CCTV cameras. Note that not all cameras have all of the features described in this manual. As standard, all cameras within the range are fitted with an auto iris lens connector, adjustable back focus, and accept both C and CS lenses (with supplied adapter.) PRODUCT SAFETY ATTENTION:- Only qualified and experienced personnel should install and service this equipment. Cameras operating at AC mains 230 V contain hazardous voltages. Do not remove the camera casing, as there is a risk of injury or death by electric shock. No user serviceable parts inside. Cameras connected to mains supplies must be connected to an earth connection. Only operate low voltage cameras from a Class 2 isolated power supply. The GE series of CCTV cameras are designed for use in general purpose CCTV applications. Only operate the cameras between 10 o C and + 50 o C. Do not use the camera outside the specified power supply range. The cameras must be used in a clean, dry, dust free environment, unless fitted into a suitable protective housing rated at IP65. The voltage required to operate the camera is clearly marked on the rear of the camera. Low voltage versions must be used with a Class 2 isolated power supply The Red Power LED on the rear panel indicates that power is connected. LENSES To optimise the picture quality from the camera, it is important to select the appropriate lens for the application, and to ensure the lens is correctly set up. Before fitting a lens, make sure that the rear of the lens does not touch the CCD image sensor inside the camera. Do not touch the surface of the CCD image sensor. Do not expose the CCD image sensor to direct sunlight, as this may impair or damage the camera s performance 3

4 All GE cameras support the use of C and CS type lenses. Four types of lenses can be used with the digital range of cameras (see section Setup for pictures): Fixed Iris and Manual Iris lenses are recommended for internal applications, and where the light levels are constant. These lenses do not require any wiring connections to the camera. Ensure that the Lens Mode switch on the rear of the camera is set to AES. Auto Iris lenses and Direct Drive lenses are connected to the camera via the auto-iris connector and are suitable for both internal and external applications. A suitable 4-pin connector is provided within the camera packaging. For the wiring connections for both types of lenses, refer to this manual and the lens manufacturer documentation. An Auto Iris lens internally monitors the video signal from the camera, and automatically adjusts the iris to the varying light levels. Typically, these lenses provide a level adjustment on the side on the lens casing (refer to the lens manufacturer documentation). Ensure that the Lens Mode switch is set to VD when using an auto iris lens. A Direct Drive lens is controlled internally from the camera, and automatically adjusts the iris to the varying light levels. To adjust the level of the lens to obtain 1 Volt p-p, use the DC level adjustment potentiometer on the side of the camera. Ensure that the Lens Mode switch is set to DD when using a Direct Drive lens. LENSES SET UP GUIDE Fixed Iris lenses - Set the lens focus to infinity and view an image greater than 5 meters away. If the picture is not clear and appears out of focus, use the back focus adjustment to improve the picture. Manual Iris lenses - Open the iris fully and set the lens focus to infinity. View an image greater than 5 meters away. If the picture is not in focus, use the back focus adjustment to improve the picture. Adjust the focus and iris as required. Auto-Iris and Direct Drive lenses - Fully open the iris by covering the lens with a suitable neutral density filter (ND) (not supplied). Set the lens focus to infinity and view an image greater than 5 meters away. Focus the image using the back focus adjustment. Remove the ND filter and adjust the focus as required. Repeat this process to confirm. Focussing may vary between day and night time, and the amount of infra red light viewed by the camera. 4

Camera controls 1) If you are using a C-mount lens, screw on the C-mount adapter. 2) Screw the appropriate lens to the camera. 3) Set the lens mode switch (Figure 3) to correspond with the lens: For an auto iris lens without amplifier (DC type), set the lens mode switch to DD. For an auto iris lens with built-in amplifier (VIDEO type), set the lens mode switch to VD. For a manual iris lens, set the lens mode switch to AES. (See Figure 1.) 6

(Refer to the lens instructions.) 1.1 SETTING THE DIP SWITCH Set the DIP switch for your camera situation (see Figure 6 and Table 1). Table 1. 8 1.1.1 WHITE BALANCE (ATW/AWB) ATW mode (default) In the ATW mode, the colour temperature is being monitored continuously, and the white balance is set automatically by an internal micro-controller. The operating colour temperature range is from 2500 to 9500 K. AWB mode When the switch is set to AWB (conventional white balance), a camera using white as its reference automatically adjusts the content of blue and red in the picture, depending on the scene, to provide a picture with balanced colour content. If the colour temperature of the scene is continuously changing, the camera can lose its colour reference; in this case, switch the camera to ATW BACKLIGHT COMPENSATION (BLC ON) This auto BLC is a digital light-level control system. It is activated automatically by screen histogram (contrast) and 225-area window weighting integration. This controls iris gain and white balance simultaneously so that a clear object with adequate light level can be optimised. Central Window Weighted Average Backlight Compensation This method is ideal when the main subject is fixed within the screen. Histogram Backlight Compensation This method is ideal when the main subject moves within the screen. The combination of two types of backlighting makes it easier to arrange backlight compensation operation to match the imaging conditions and installation location. Note: Compensation might be insufficient when the background is extremely bright GAMMA CORRECTION (r =.45 / r = 1) Gamma correction is an electronic correction within the camera circuitry that matches the brightness level seen by the camera with the brightness level displayed on the monitor. This adjustment enables the monitor to display the correct level of contrast. The standard setting is.45 (default). The manual switch should be used only if the controls on the monitor are not giving sufficient adjustment SYNCHRONISATION (L-LOCK/INT) Line-Lock (external) (default) The sync pulses are referenced to the supply frequency. The phase adjust buttons are used to synchronise cameras even when they are connected to different phases of the mains supply, which results in roll-free pictures Internal An internal sync generator is used when the camera is being powered off of 12 VDC AUTO/MANUAL SWITCH (DAY/NIGHT ONLY) In auto mode, the camera automatically switches from colour mode to black and white mode as light decreases. In manual mode, you can manually switch the camera from daytime colour mode to nighttime B/W mode using the Day/Night switch (see section 1.1.6). 8

9 1.1.6 DAY/NIGHT SWITCH (DAY/NIGHT ONLY) When the AUTO/MANUAL switch is set to manual, the camera can be switched manually from daytime colour mode to nighttime B/W mode. 2 CONNECTIONS See Figure 7 and perform the following: To power supply To local or test monitor To monitor Power LED Figure 7. AC 24V/DC12V model (Low Voltage Version) This terminal accepts both AC 24 V and DC 12 V (non-polarity), with Class 2 isolated power supply AC 85V~265V model The camera is equipped with a wide-ranging power supply. The unit can accept an AC power source input from 85 VAC to 265 VAC Note: Power is now being supplied to the camera, and the power LED illuminates. If the LED is not illuminated, check the terminal block connections and power source. 3 ADDITIONAL ADJUSTMENTS Back Focus To adjust the lens use the included screwdriver, turn the back focus thumbwheel screw counterclockwise (unlock) so that the back focus thumbwheel turns. (See Figure 1.). Adjust the lens focal position by turning the back focus thumbwheel to achieve the sharpest image. After adjustment use the screwdriver to lock the thumbwheel screw 3.1 DD LEVEL (FOR DC-TYPE LENSES) When the lens mode switch is set to DD, you can set the lens iris level adjustment to ensure the correct exposure depending on the camera s position and the lighting levels. (See Figure 2.) 9

10 3.2 MON OUT (BNC) The monitor output BNC connector can accept the BNC connector of a local monitor or of a monitor used to test camera setup. 3.3 EXTERNAL SYNC PHASE ADJUSTMENT BUTTONS CAUTION: The phase adjustment must be made by a qualified service person or installer. The vertical phase of the camera video signal can be synchronised to the phase of the AC power line by using a dual-trace oscilloscope to observe the video output signal (V-rate) of the camera and by adjusting the line-lock phase control buttons to line up the phases of both signals. In linelock mode, this synchronisation is automatic. 10
