2 2 UNBOXING A full kit comprises of: - Main Unit - Aluminium shutter flap with mount - 13A USB Adapter - 1m USB Cable - Safety Bond 3kg - Velcro FUNCTION DMX Flappy will move the shutter flap around an arc of 180 degrees when it receives a DMX signal and is connected to a power source. If it receives no signal at startup, it will go to Zero. If it loses DMX signal during use, it will remain still unless power is lost. It is designed for the sole purpose of masking light spill ( projector black ) from projectors in a theatre or event environment. DMX Flappy is not suitable for use in outdoor/moist environments. Any use of the device outside of these parameters may result in damage or harm to equipment or people.

3 3 CONNECTIONS DMX Flappy requires a DMX signal via a 5-pin XLR and 5V power via the USB cable. You can power the DMX Flappy from any USB socket capable of supplying 1A or by using the included mains adaptor. Beside the USB cable, there are 2 subtle LEDs: RED LED indicates power is being received by the unit. GREEN LED will flicker when receiving good DMX or flash slowly when not receiving DMX. SETTING DMX ADDRESS Use the DIP switch to set the DMX address you want to use to control the DMX Flappy. The device requires one channel. DIP10 does not currently have a function.

4 4 MOUNTING For best results, attach to platform underneath the projector when floor mounting. If hanging the projector, you may need to attach to the projector itself. Gaffa tape, Black Tak, Velcro or other adhesives may be used you should make sure that your DMX Flappy is secure and will not be dislodged. Make sure the shutter flap has a clear path to cover and uncover the front of the lens. If using a bulbous lens, be extra careful that the shutter flap does not touch the front of it. When using the DMX Flappy anywhere at height you MUST use a suitable safety bond linking the device to the projector hanging frame or other suitable point.

5 5 ATTACHING THE SHUTTER FLAP Remove the black screw then push the mount all the way onto the motor axle, it should be a firm fit. Insert and re-tighten the screw. Do not overtighten it and take care not to cross-thread. QUICK SETUP CHECKLIST - Set the DMX address using the DIP switch - Mount the device securely as appropriate for your projector - Add safety bond if required - Connect to power via USB cable - The motor will reset to 0 position - Attach the shutter flap in its Open position this should be only just outside the beam of the projector to minimize the distance the shutter flap has to travel. - Connect the DMX cable from the lighting desk - Using the desk, increase the level of the DMX channel and take a note of when the shutter is fully covering the beam of the projector. FAQS My shutter flap is shaking! Why? This usually happens when extra material has been added to the shutter to increase its size or range. The motor cannot cope with this! You might also have a DMX problem but this would usually show up in your lights too. My shutter has stopped working, who can help? In the first instance leo@leo-woolcock.co.uk for support.
