The camera adjustment process must be done in up to 5 steps: Step Description 1 Selecting the lens type 2 Camera calibration 3 Adjusting the X/Y offset 4 Adjusting the Z offset (only ProtoMat S63 and ProtoMat S103) 5 Testing the camera settings The camera module is ready to operate when all adjustment steps are correctly followed and the test is running without any problems LPKF AG HB V1.0/Sep-12 5

6 2 Preliminary work Camera Initialization 2 Preliminary work Skip this chapter if the ProtoMat S system was already equipped with a camera module and start with step 1. In case the ProtoMat S system is equipped with a camera module for the first time the camera module must be activated via CircuitPro. Activating the camera module 1. Mount the camera module according to the installation instructions. 2. Switch on the machine. 3. Start CircuitPro. 4. Click Wizards>Equipment configuration wizard. The window of the Equipment configuration wizard is shown. 5. Follow the wizard step by step and click on the checkbox Fiducial Recognition camera when the step Machine options is reached. Fig. 1: Equipment configuration wizard 6. Complete the remaining steps. 7. Click [Done] to finish the Equipment configuration wizard. 6 HB V1.0/Sep LPKF AG

Select lens type 1. Check the correct installation of the camera module. 2. Switch on the machine. 3. Start CircuitPro. 4. Determine the equipped lens type. 5. Click Extras>Options. The window Options is shown. 6. Click Extras>Options>Machine and the machine settings are displayed. 7. Click into the selcetion field Camera Lens Type and select the lens type. 9 Camera Initialization Step 2: Camera calibration 4 4 Step 2: Camera calibration Calibrating the camera 1. Place and fix base material on the working table. 2. Pick up the tool spiral drill 1 mm. 3. Start the mill/drill head motor. If the message Warm up of spindle motor is displayed, wait 2 min. to warm up the mill/drill head spindle. 4. Manually drill a hole into the base material. 5. Stop the mill/drill head motor. 6. Manually move the camera into the direction of the drilled hole. 7. Stop the camera moving when the drill hole is in the centre of the camera view. 8. Click Camera>Options>Show camera image settings. The following window is shown: Fig. 5: Image acquisition settings 9. Enter 1 mm into the input fields \x distance [mm]\ and \y distance [mm]. 10. Click [Snap and calibrate]. The camera calibration is running and thereafter the message Calbration successful is displayed. Click on [OK] to confirm the message. 11. Click [Close] to finish the camera calibration. The camera is calibrated LPKF AG HB V1.0/Sep-12 9

The X/Y offset is adjusted. 5.1 Determination camera-to-milling head fails In some cases, it is possible that the drilled hole could not be measured and the determination procedure will be interrupted. Fig. 9: Alignment Fixing the determination failure 1. The determination camera to milling head fails. The following window is shown: 2. Open window Processing and use [ ], [ ], [ ] and [ ] to move the mill/drill head into the position of the drilled hole. The drilled hole must be displayed in the centre of the camera view. 3. Click [Find and Center]. The drill hole position will be measured and the drilled hole is centered in the camera view. The determination procedure is running and the result will be displayed. 4. Click [OK]. The dialog box Save results to machine is shown. 5. Click [Save] to save the data into the machine controller. The determination was successful LPKF AG HB V1.0/Sep-12 11

Adjust the Z offset 1. Click Machining>Determine camera head offset. The following dialog box is shown: Fig. 11: Teach Z focus offset 2. Click [Determine Z-Focus-Offset]. 3. Remove the milling depth limiter if the milling depth limiter is still installed. The machine automatically picks up the biggest Spiral drill of the tool holder and the following dialog box is shown: Fig. 12: Refining Z position 4. Follow the instructions and click [OK]. Follow the instructions and click [OK]. The head is moving to the teaching position. For 5 times the machine is performing the autofocus procedure. Afterwards the following dialog box is shown: Fig. 14: Teaching results 8. If the range of values spans is less than 0.1 mm click [Yes] else [No] to repeat the autofocus procedure. Place and fix a base material on the working table. 2. Pick up a drill tool, for example Spiral drill 0.8 mm. 3. Move the mill/drill head to a free space of the base material. 4. Start the mill/drill head motor. 5. Wait 2 min. to warm up the mill/drill head spindle. 6. Manually drill a hole into the base material. 7. Stop the mill/drill head motor. 8. Go to the processing window and select camera head. 9. Go to the menu bar and click Camera>Action>Autofocus. 10. Click Camera>Overlay>Switch crosshair state to display the crosshair. 11. Check the drilled hole. It must be placed in the centre of the camera view. If not, repeat step 3 of the camera adjustment procedure. 12. Click Camera>Actions>Measuring Mode>Circle Diameter. 13. Go to the camera view and select three points on the circle outline. 14. The measured diameter is displayed in the camera view. 15. Check whether the measured diameter meets the drill diameter of the selected tool. If not, repeat step 2 of the camera adjustment procedure. The camera is ready to operate. 14 HB V1.0/Sep LPKF AG
