1 DViT Camera Views and Diagnostics The following examples show normal and abnormal camera views for different varieties of interactive displays and whiteboards. For information specific to SBM600 interactive whiteboards, refer to the Understanding SMART Board M600 interactive whiteboard sensor data article in SMART s knowledge base. How to use this guide In order to be able to use this guide, you need to first retrieve the camera views from the SMART Diagnostics. Your SMART Board must be connected to a computer with MSART Drivers loaded. 1. Open SMART Settings. A message should confirm that the SMART board is connected, but may or may not be working properly. 2. Select About Software and Product Support on the left side of the settings window. 3. Select Tools (on the right). 4. Select Diagnostics to open the diagnostics window. 5. Select your product s toolbar from the View drop-down list at the top of the diagnostic window. 6. In your product s toolbar, select Views to open the camera diagnostic window. 7. Select Get Image. The images that appear when you select Get Image are still images and not real-time video. Sometimes it s useful to capture several images to see changes over time. On some models of interactive whiteboard (), the image is a greyscale picture. On other models (), the picture is of a sensor waveform. 4 Issue: Blocked camera Something is sitting in the pen tray in the corner, obstructing a camera s view. On the SMART Board - interactive flat panel, the signal will be at either the bottom or the top of the signal bar, depending on how close the object is to the corner. Remove the object and calibrate if necessary.

5 Issue: Camera failure A camera has stopped working and needs to be replaced. Replacement cameras for - interactive flat panels can be installed on-site. The cameras on a interactive flat panel can be replaced only at a SMART-authorized repair facility.

6 Issue: Touch master error The controller for the touch system is not communicating with the cameras. This issue requires repair at a SMART-authorized repair facility.

7 Issue: Direct light Direct light can prevent the cameras from detecting targets properly. Although the interactive flat panel might still work with limited functionality, but it s best to remove or block the source of direct light. A calibration may be required. In rare cases of prolonged exposure, the camera LED s may be damaged and require replacement. Cameras for the interactive flat panels and 800 interactive whiteboards are field-replaceable. Cameras for the are not. On SMART Board interactive flat panels and 800 interactive whiteboards, the direct light interference will appear as a hotspot, as seen below. The camera view on a SMART Board interactive flat panel can indicate direct light interference in a variety of ways, depending on the light s location. The top view shows light attenuating the camera signal from hitting the corner. The middle picture shows light hitting the side bezels, causing multiple interferences. The bottom picture shows interference from a strong light, directly above the display (in this case, a long fluorescent tube directly above the panel). Corner interference:

9 Issue: Incorrect mounting ( only) This image shows the camera view from an interactive flat panel that has warped or twisted because of improper mounting. Note the tapering in the camera view. Remove the panel from the wall and mount, then calibrate it. If the problem goes away, inspect the wall and mount for flatness and correct as required. This may require shimming the mount if the wall bows in or out significantly. If the problem persists, the panel may have been damaged. Please note that damage that results from improper mounting is not typically covered under warranty.
