1 Technical details for tools from our manufacturing inventory The workpieces to be broached shall be clean and free of burrs. The pre machined bore diameter shall be within the tolerances we give. In case of too big bores, run out can happen and lead to a hooking and to a break off of the broaching tool. In case of a too small bore, the workpiece cannot be broached. Thin broaching tools with automatic feeding may even break. The bore to be broached shall be within the field of the broaching indicated for the broaching tool. The pre machined bore shall run perpendicularly to the plane machined supporting surface. If many workpieces lying upon each other shall be broached simultaneously, both sides must be plane-parallel. If a certain concentricity accuracy between outside contour and broached profile is required, the broaching process must occur first. The workpiece must then be hold in the broached profile for the machining of the outside contour. Thin walled workpieces tend to deform. For this reason, force absorbing part adaptors can be required. To keep it simple, the material resistance of the workpiece to be broached shall be between 400 and 1000 N/mm 2. Of course, the workpieces shall not be hardened, neither through heat treatment, nor as a consequence of a previous machining with blunt tools. By values below the indicated resistance, the material tends to run away. The surface quality is no longer good. By values above, the tool life until resharpening and the total life time decrease. 1
2 Overview of our inventory tools for contract broaching Profiles to broach: Flat keyways Flat broaching tools are available for every usual keyway between 2 und 25 mm width.
