This camera has a CCD lens to guarantee sharp images. The camera has a maximum resolution of 4 Megapixles. The photographs are saved in the 16 MB internal memory. 1.1 General comments regarding photography Test photograph Before you start photographing a unique event, it is a good idea to first take a number of test photographs. This will help to ensure that the camera works as required. No compensation for unsuccessful photographs No compensation may be claimed for unsuccessful photographs as a result of a faulty camera, faulty software, etc. Transferring photographs and video clips No guarantees are given that photographs and video clips produced with this camera can be displayed on other devices or that photographs and video clips produced with other devices can be displayed using this camera. Sunlight Do not aim the camera directly at the sun for a long period of time. This may damage the sensor. Shaking/knocks Do not shake the camera or knock it against anything, because this may cause a fault, unsuccessful photographs, memory incompatibility or the loss of photographs from the memory. LCD screen There may sometimes be small black or clear dots visible on the LCD screen. This is normal and does not affect the photographs. There is no reason to exchange the camera if there are 10 dots or less. Exposing the LCD screen to direct sunlight for a long period of time may cause faults. Lens Keep the glass of the lens clean. Use a cotton bud to clean the lens. If necessary, use special cleaning fluid for camera lenses. Do not use a different type of cleaning product. 1

If Manual is selected, press the exposure button to save the voice memo. Sets the exposure (see chapter 7.5.3). Sets the white balance (see chapter 7.5.4) Image size (resolution) Photographs can be saved in the memory in four different resolutions. The lower the resolution, the more photographs you can save in the camera's memory. The higher the resolution, the more detailed the photograph will be. Use a low resolution if you wish to upload photographs onto the Internet. Use the highest resolution if you wish to print or edit photographs Quality You can determine the quality of the photographs using the compression. The higher the quality setting (Super Fine), the better the final image. A higher quality requires more memory and limits the number of photographs that can be saved in the camera s memory. 9

14 Super Fine is the best quality setting. Normal is the lowest quality setting. The quality setting can be altered as desired. Image size Quality The numbers given in the table below are only an indication of the expected capacity x 1704 (XL) 2048 x 1536 (L) 1600 x 1200 (M) 1280 x 960 (S) Super Fine Fine Normal Table 11 : Number of photographs that can be saved in the camera s internal memory Exposure You can adjust the exposure to underexpose or overexpose photographs. This will make darker objects lighter or objects which are brightly lit less bright. A higher value (+2.0) produces a very bright photograph White balance Under normal circumstances, the white balance is set automatically. You can select the white balance manually for conditions which do not change or for certain lighting conditions. Auto: Automatic setting (indoor and outdoor photography). Daylight: Setting for sunny weather (outdoor photography). Sunset: Setting for dusk (outdoor photography). Tungsten: Setting for incandescent lighting (indoor photography). Fluorescent: Setting for fluorescent lighting (indoor photography). Tip: A photograph is sensitive to the light conditions. In sunlight, the photograph appears blue and under fluorescent lighting, the photograph appears green. The human eye can solve this problem. The camera, however, cannot solve this problem without making alterations. Under normal conditions, the white balance is adjusted automatically by the camera. If there are strange colours, it is recommended to alter the white balance manually. 8 Recording a video clip ( ) 1. Set the camera to the Video mode. 2. Press the exposure button to start recording. A camera and microphone symbol will flash in the top left-hand corner of the LCD screen. 3. By default, the recording will be stopped after 10 seconds and saved in the camera s memory. The camera is turned off or is in the sleep setting. There is insufficient light. The camera was moved. The distance to the subject is too small. Check the settings for your USB port. For more information, see p/usb. Connect the camera to a USB port. Connect the camera to a USB hub which has a power supply or to a USB port on your computer. Connect the camera to a USB port. Connect the camera to a USB hub which has a power supply or to a USB port on your computer. Insert the batteries into the battery compartment as described in chapter 4. Disconnect the USB cable. The camera cannot be operated when it is connected to a computer. Turn the camera on again. Increase the distance or use the macro mode. 20

25 Problem Cause Possible solution No photograph is taken when the exposure button is pressed. The colours of the photograph are incorrect. There is noise in the photographs or the photographs are too dark. The photographs are overexposed. There is insufficient light. The macro switch is set to the wrong setting. The automatic exposure function is still turned on. The memory is full. The camera is still busy saving the previous photograph. The white balance has been incorrectly set on the camera. The background lighting is not white. The monitor has not been set correctly. The printer has been set incorrectly. An inkjet printer has a blocked ink cartridge. The paper used is unsuitable for printing photographs. The photographs are taken in dark surroundings. The flash has been used, but the distance is too great. The flash has been used in bright surroundings. The contrast in the subject is too great. Improve the lighting. Set the macro switch to the correct setting. Turn the automatic exposure function off. Transfer photographs to your computer and delete the contents of the memory. You can take many more photographs by using an SD card. Ask your dealer. Wait until the photograph has been saved in the memory. Set the white balance correctly (see chapter 7.5.4). Adjust the white balance setting (see chapter 7.5.4). Compare the photograph to other photographs (for example, on the Internet) where you know the colour is correct. Adjust your monitor correctly (see the instruction manual provided with your monitor). If the photographs look good on your monitor, check your printer settings. See the instruction manual provided with your printer for instructions on how to test the printer and solve any problems. Use original paper from your printer manufacturer for the most reliable result. Make sure there is sufficient light or use the flash. Use the flash up to a distance of 3 metres. The flash has no effect if used for greater distances. The flash is not suitable for providing additional lighting. Do not use it in (bright) daylight. Change the lighting or take the photographs closer by or further away. 21

26 Problem Cause Possible solution The photographs were taken in bright sunlight. Take photographs in shadow or try to adjust the white balance setting (see chapter 7.5.4). File error is displayed on the LCD screen. Memory error is displayed on the LCD screen. The problem is not listed here.
