2 BLOCKING High-precision blocking is not only the start, but also the cornerstone of the entire lens production process. Choosing the right blocking technology is key to further decisions for designing the entire production line. Satisloh is focused on developing environmentally safe alternatives to the traditional alloy blocking process and is now offering matching solutions for every lab to replace hazardous substances from their production. Manual and automated alloy free blocking equipment is available. Labs can choose between the Open Platform Surfacing (OPS) blocking system, allowing the use of any surfacing machine, or the On-Block Manufacturing (OBM) blocking system for full integration of Satisloh lines including AR coating. As a complete solution provider, Satisloh also offers alloy blocking equipment.

ART utilizes a universal, reusable plastic block-piece and a UV-curable adhesive, instead of tape, that protects the lens front. Using this synthetic material combination eliminates hazardous substances like heavy metals and their discharge into the water cycle, helping protect both environment and staff. Only an ART blocker and deblocker are needed to totally eliminate alloy from production. Integration of hard coating step is possible. OBM (On-Block Manufacturing) The lens stays on a single block, the OBM block, during the entire manufacturing process, including hard and AR coating, for fastest production times. This enables either totally automated in-line production or an easy and efficient way to manually manufacture lenses in smallest spaces. OBM requires Satisloh equipment for each production step.

A prism tool helps set the lens in the right position. A screen message informs the operator when the process is complete, which avoids breakage from stopping too early.

The manual deblocker is easy to adapt to different block curvatures with cam plate adjustments. It is easy to operate and easy to maintain.

A scanner interface enters job data automatically, simplifying operation and saving time. The work sequence is displayed on screen, reducing operator errors. ART-Blocker-A The ART-Blocker-A automatically loads blank and block-piece from the job tray, and determines the correct blank orientation.

Next, the ART-Blocker-A probes the exact geometry of the front curve for accurate positioning of the lens and detecting front curve errors on spherical blanks.

The blank is lowered onto the block-piece in the correct orientation - using Satisloh s patented spatial blocking technology.

Easy to integrate in the manufacturing flow, the ART-Deblocker-A automatically loads blocked, generated and polished lenses and returns deblocked lenses to the job tray.

5 ART-Blocker-A The ART-Blocker-A automatically loads blank and block-piece from the job tray, and determines the correct blank orientation. The blank to block combination is verified avoiding breakage from mismatched blank and block due to operator error. Next, the ART-Blocker-A probes the exact geometry of the front curve for accurate positioning of the lens and detecting front curve errors on spherical blanks. Incorrect lenses are rejected or a recalculation of the back curve can be processed in the LMS system. The right amount of UV curable adhesive is applied to the block. The blank is lowered onto the block-piece in the correct orientation - using Satisloh s patented spatial blocking technology. ART-Deblocker-A ART-Deblocker-A lets labs fully automate their surfacing operation. Easy to integrate in the manufacturing flow, the ART-Deblocker-A automatically loads blocked, generated and polished lenses and returns deblocked lenses to the job tray. The deblocker separates block-piece, adhesive, and lens with a water jet and then dries both sides of the lens, making it inspection-ready. After separation, it sorts blocks by curvature and diameter, for efficient reuse. Water jet separation eliminates the shock of manual alloy deblocking reducing spoilage. The UV-adhesive is cured within seconds and the blocked lens returned to the original tray, immediately ready for generating.
