4 Introduction to European legislation for protective eyewear equipments For the manufacture of safety eyewear, Essilor is compliant with European regulations as a minimum standard. European regulations for safety equipment are among the most stringent in the world. EUROPEAN NORM The European directive 89/686/EEC establishes a series of criteria which define the requirements in terms of protection for the european workers when using a Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). In compliance with this directive, a European norm called EN 166 defines the specific standards for personal protective eyewear. CERTIFICATION All protective eyewear included in this Essilor Pro-Safety range are compliant with the specifications of the EN 166 norm as they were certified in December 2015 by the independant Notified Body n 0194, Inspec international LTD in the UK. For protective eyewear it is important to note that the object of certification is the combination of the corrective lens including the safety frame and the fitting. This means that the certified protective eyewear can only be mounted in a certified place.

6 Marking specifications According to the EN166 norm, a double marking is compulsory for all protective eyewear equipments : frame and lenses. All our Essilor Pro-Safety equipments are compliant with those double marking specifications. THe Essilor Pro-Safety range caters for only 1 of these categories (F). CATEGORY F : Impact at high speed: the complete range of personal protective equipment capable of whithstanding an impact of a steel ball (0,86 gr, 6 mm diameter) dropped onto both lens and side shields of the frame at a speed of 45m/second. This speed is usually generated by the projection of the ball by an airgun. * Essilor only delivers lenses in the top optical class (Class 1). For Safety, this means a spherical and cylindrical tolerance of +/ δ and prismatic tolerance of +/ δ. Our lenses meet much more rigorous standards.

7 Lens Material 1,59 polycarbonate Airwear is recommended for mechanical use Category F: Impact at high speed Highest impact protection. First choice if risk of projections and for electrical work. Note: Prohibited in the presence of solvents. Coating As a default, Essilor Pro-Safety lenses are coated with Supra. Supra is a transparent scratchresistant treatment. Selecting the type of lens According to the prescription of the wearer the lens can be : Selecting safety frames The choice of the frame must be made by the safety officer of the final user s company according to workers needs and working environment constraints. Example : Single-vision lens : same power across the entire lens (myopia, hypermetropia). Bifocal lens : An earlier and uncomfortable solution that corrects the wearer s vision at two different distances (far and near, middle distance and near), but with a jump between the two corrections, so that wearers are often required to tilt their head in the sagittal plane in order to find the right correction. Progressive lens : provides clear vision at any distance depending on the viewing angle (Presbyopia). No metal frame for electrical risks. Full coverage on the sides if there is a risk of projections Note: Prescription range limitations are D to D and cylinder up to and including D (-3.00 D on smaller eye size).
