15 HDMI Over USB Type-C Overview HDMI 1.4b Alt Mode on USB Type-C Spec first released Sept, 2016 Current HDMI Alt Mode Spec: Version 1.0a, (January 17, 2017) Follows Alt Mode USB Type-C specification requirements. USB Power Delivery (USB PD) enables Alt Modes with mechanisms to discover, enter and exit Alternate Modes. HDMI 1.4b Alt Mode spec only applies to 1.4b Sources and Cable Adapters. There is no Alt Mode spec for HDMI Sink or HDMI 2.x currently. Devices that require an Alt Mode must support USB PD HDMI Type-C Cable Adapters require contains a Billboard device To Notify user when switching to HDMI Alt mode is unsuccessful
