2 Introduction Dear Customer, Before you read the instructions for use on the following pages, we wish to congratulate you for having chosen Meta Voice and would like to give you some general information that you will surely find particularly helpful for finding out just what your new hands-free system has to offer. Meta Voice is a hands-free system based on the Bluetooth technology. The main purpose of the Bluetooth technology is the ability to make different devices communicate and interact together (telephones, printers, notebooks, PDAs, HiFi systems TVs, computers, PCs, mobile phones, household appliances, ) without any wiring needed to connect them, commonly known as wireless, provided the various devices connected are at a similar distance one from the other (range of action) but no more than 5 metres. Wireless refers to a type of communication, to monitoring and to a series of control systems where signals travel in space and not through transmission cables or wires. A wireless system normally uses a radio frequency to transmit (RF). Hence the Bluetooth technology is designed specifically for wireless communication between small devices. The key inspirational concept of this technology is to eliminate altogether cables and wires for communicating among devices. Meta Voice is Bluetooth 2.1 qualified, class 2. Use How to use the system is explained here. Always refer to the mobile phone user manual for the pairing and connection procedures. The system is working when the panel is on. All operations that involve interaction with your mobile phone are to be done with the car at a standstill. Conversation management info is transferred directly onto the car s instrument panel display. Pairing To use the hands-free system, the phone and hands-free device have to be paired up. Always refer to the mobile phone user guide for the combination. Pairing has to be done in the car after about 60 seconds from when the instrument panel is turned on, keeping it on throughout the procedure. Connections of previously paired devices must not be active when pairing this one. Once the mobile phone has found the device, identified by the name MetaVoice, key in 1234 when prompted for the combination code. When 4 mobile phones have been paired up, the pairing of an additional mobile phone is possible but it will take the place of the phone with the least recent connection. EN 7
3 The system can keep up to 4 combinations active, i.e. there is no need to repeat the EN pairing procedure with the last 4 mobile phones paired up when the car s instrument panel is turned on or off or when the phone is turned on or off. When 4 mobile phones have been paired up, the pairing of a different mobile phone is possible but it will take the place of the phone with the least recent connection. Connection Connection is made only when the pairing up procedure has been successful (Bluetooth hands-free + GSM phone). In some mobile phone models a specific procedure is required to confirm the first connection which can be found in the user manual. After the first connection all the following connections are automatic once the car s instrument panel is turned on; this is the case only if the automatic connection feature has been activated in the mobile phone settings. Connection is signalled by 1 tone from the speaker. If you connect a phone while the car is running, simply press the receiver button briefly on the steering wheel. Description of the control buttons Find the control in the car and identify the dedicated control buttons. 4 Adjusting the listening volume If necessary when talking over the phone, the listening volume can be adjusted by simply pressing the volume buttons on the steering wheel (Fig. 1 buttons A/B). Each time the button is pressed it turns the volume up or down. The volume may also be adjusted with the controls on the phone itself. The listening volume may even be changed with the car radio volume control, if It has this option. MUTE NOTE: If the radio is on when you are talking over the phone, it is silenced automatically and the conversation heard through the front speaker(s), depending on the type of system you have in the car. Automatic hands-free activation If there is an ongoing communication on your mobile, a few seconds after the car has been started this communication will go automatically to the hands-free system so you can drive safely. Making a call Once connected the system informs you about the phonebook download procedure which, if successful, lets you interact with the call making procedures controlled directly with the buttons on the steering wheel or side lever. Operation of the hands-free system greatly depends on the type of mobile phone you are using. Some mobile phone models synchronise their internal memory contacts - it is advisable to copy the contacts that are on the SIM into the mobile phone memory. If the mobile phone does not support the profiles given at the end of the manual it will not be possible to download the phonebook and a message to this effect will be given. Refer to the mobile phone user manual for a more detailed description of the phonebook profiles it manages Searching for a contact The phonebook can be interrogated using the initial management menu. Select BOOK with the OK button to start the SEARCH mode for the contact wanted. Up to 5 search characters can be entered in the system to make it easier to find the contact wanted. Scroll and find the letter wanted with the scroll buttons and then press OK to confirm. Each time you confirm a character (between brackets) a counter is displayed informing you how many contacts are in the phonebook with that search string which can show you up to a maximum of 20 contacts. If the (MAX) string is displayed between brackets you need to add another character to focus the search for the contact. The last character entered can be deleted by scrolling the items and selecting CANCEL or by pressing the BACK button (if there is one). When the string has been entered (from 1 to 5 characters) select SEARCH or keep the OK button pressed for long time to see the list of contacts that fit the search criteria. When you have found the contact wanted in the list, press OK to see the telephone number associated with it and, if it is right, press OK again to make the call. 9 METAVOICE Download Phonebook: Working.. While you are entering the numbers the system shows progress up until the call is made. The operation can be cancelled using the BACK button (if there is one) Voice call To use the voice call function the phone model you are using must support it. The voice commands must be stored beforehand in the mobile phone with the text to speech option if the phone does not manage them directly. Refer to the operating modes of your mobile phone to store the voice commands. We recommend recording the voice commands with the phone connected to the Bluetooth hands-free system. The voice call mode is activated by selecting it from the initial menu or by pressing the receiver button (if there is one) for some time. The string say the name is displayed on the instrument panel. Give the voice command after the acoustic signal. The string output is displayed. Accepting/refusing a call A ring signals an incoming call. Depending on the type of phone used you can hear the tone set on the mobile phone or the standard ring. The incoming string is displayed followed by the name of the contact (if the phonebook was downloaded successfully) or the number of the caller (if available from the the telephone company). To open the communication briefly press the receiver button (if there is one) or the OK button, selecting answer. This may also be done by using the UP or DOWN arrow on the discreet mode function and confirming with OK. Waiting mode By quickly pressing the receiver button (if there is one) during a call it will switch over to the waiting mode.
