1 Managerial Skill Development Topic : Individual Presentation and News Digest session for students of MBA II Sec A & B Month & Date : March 6 March Aim of the Activity It is no longer enough for one to have the necessary capability to do the job, one should also be able to talk well, write well, and present himself attractively to his managers. The best way to let other people know of your capability is by presenting a great idea or a plan during a meeting. Presentation is desirable, not only for management people, but also with general people in public life as they should have the capacity to take the people with them on their ideology. After all, whatever your strengths a proper presentation makes the job that much easier and a poorly presented work does not produce the desired results. With this aim in mind the personality development and presentation sessions are scheduled for the students.

2 Description of the The class began with a discussion of some important points related to the budget. event This was followed by the session of Individual presentations. Presentation and its content of speech must therefore be to target and attract the audience. Presenter should be competent with the topic to be delivered and should have done a comprehensive study of the same. Each student presented the topic for 10 minutes and this was followed by faculty and student feedback. Conclusion With the launch, Reliance becomes the first telecom operator in the country to offer Tabs on both the 3G and CDMA networks. It is also the first CMDA Android Tablet from an Indian telecom company. Budget 2012: Mobile handset makers want uniform GST rate Concerned over different VAT rates on mobile handsets in different states, device manufacturers have demanded a uniform GST rate on handsets in the upcoming Budget. BlackBerry-maker Research in Motion (RIM) said it is witnessing a huge surge in the Smartphone space and if the government changes the tax structure, it will help penetrate Smartphone to a wider customer base. Micromax has also sought a policy initiative to promote domestic manufacturing of handsets. "India being a large market, can evolve as a manufacturing hub. This would have the attendant benefit of spillover growth in the adjacent electronic/component industries," Mehrotra of Micromax said. He added that stability of rupee will be a major concern as their sourcing is denominated in US dollar and the recent fluctuation in the value of rupee has disturbed the industry. KINGFISHER WARNS OF A SHUTDOWN 1. Kingfisher Airlines is an airline group based in India. Its head office is The Qube in Andheri (East), Mumbai and Registered Office in UB City, Bangalore. Kingfisher Airlines, through its parent company United Breweries Group, has a 50% stake in low-cost carrier Kingfisher Red. The airline has been facing financial issues for many years. Until December 2011, Kingfisher Airlines had the second largest share in India's domestic air travel market. However due to the severe financial crisis faced

4 by the airline, it has the fifth largest market share currently, only above GoAir. 2. Delayed salary In a report to DGCA on 09th Jan 12, Kingfisher had stated that it has paid past (salary) dues to 60% of its employees and that by 31st Jan 12, payment of December 2011 salary for all its employees will be done. Protesting at the delays in payment, Kingfisher pilots started making in-flight announcements citing "It is their sense of duty towards the guest that is making them fly despite not being paid salaries for the past two months". Kingfisher also defaulted on paying the Tax Deducted at Source from the employee income to the tax department. Recent news about shut down Recent crisis in kingfisher which leads to the threaten of shut down to the management of kingfisher Fleet grounding During late February, 2012, Kingfisher Airlines started to sink into a fresh crisis. Several flights were cancelled and aircraft were grounded. The cash-strapped airline claimed that the disruptions will continue for four days due to unexpected events including bird strikes which rendered aircraft out of service. The airline shut down most international short-haul operations and also temporarily closed bookings. Out of the 64 aircraft, only 22 were known to be operational by February 20. With this, Kingfisher's market share clearly dropped to 11.3%.The cancellation of the flights was accompanied by a 13.5% drop in the stocks of the company on 20 February 2012 Frozen bank accounts On March 3, 2012, The Central Board of Excise & Customs of India froze many more Kingfisher accounts as it was unable to pay all the dues as per schedule. Kingfisher was meant to pay 1 crore(us$220,000) per working day. It reportedly missed the deadline set by the board and could not pay the dues until the evening on February 29. This lead to more accounts being frozen. The airline neither did comment on the situation, nor pay the taxes. Aviation minister Ajit Singh warned the airline about the temporary suspension of the license until the crisis was sorted out. He announced that the rest of the airline's fleet would be grounded and all flights cancelled until the crisis came to an end. This would be only one step from permanently closing the airline. The main objective of such sessions conducted is to rectify the natural fear and anxiety of the students when they address to public. Such sessions are helpful for the students to overcome such fear and to improve upon their presentation skills which are essential for job.
