An international test developed by the National Association of Landscape Professionals (NALP) and administered by the Landscape Contractors Association MD DC VA (LCA), the LIC provides consumers with a level of confidence, as it shows your staff s credibility and commitment to best practices. The certification test consists of hands on problems skill demonstrations performed at the test site that approximate real life scenarios plus written problems. Candidates are judged on work methods, adherence to best practices, and safety. The Value to Your Company Increased credibility Having certified staff boosts your company s credibility. It shows clients that you are an established firm that employs skilled professionals who are knowledgeable on safety procedures. Marketing opportunities The Landscape Specification Guidelines strongly recommend that landscape contractors have LIC Technicians on staff and performing work whenever possible. 3 Training We highly recommend that candidates attend the LCA training sessions and purchase the Landscape Industry Certified Training Manual. Slots are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. You must successfully complete all problems within a particular specialty to be awarded the Landscape Industry Certified Technician designation. If necessary, you may retake problems over a three-year period. All test problems are offered in English and Spanish. 5 Eligibility for Testing Anyone is eligible to take the test, but it is recommended that candidates have one or more of the following: 4,000 hours of work in the landscape industry. 2,000 hours of work in the landscape industry, plus successful completion of a two-year or four-year curriculum in the landscape field. 1,000 hours of work in the landscape industry, plus successful completion of a two-year or four-year curriculum in the landscape field, as well as completion of an approved internship program. Steps for Success Register early. Allow sufficient time for study and preparation. Study your test book. You will receive a copy of the test book (by ) with your registration confirmation. Study the training manual. Purchase and study the Landscape Industry Certified Training Manual for your chosen specialty. Participate. Participate in the LCA training sessions. Training Testing
