2 The 20th Annual Middle District Bankruptcy Bar Association will be held on June 14 and 15, 2018 at the Mohegan Sun Casino in Wilkes-Barre, PA. As in past years, the conference will offer continuing legal education credits for bankruptcy practitioners. In 2017, approximately 140 Judges, attorneys, paralegals, legal assistants and vendors attended the event. The Middle District Bankruptcy Bar Association welcomes the Honorable U. S. Bankruptcy Chief Judge Robert N. Opel, the Honorable U. S. Bankruptcy Judge John J. Thomas and the Honorable Judge Henry Van Eck from the Middle District of Pennsylvania. We are excited to welcome our Keynote Speaker, Attorney Robert H. Davis, Jr., Adjunct Professor at Widener University. Attorney Davis will be speaking on various ethical topics, for example; what experts call the "bad file review" that allows lawyers and firms to stay well out of the way of ethics complaints and malpractice claims. Other educational programs include Bifurcated Fees & Factoring; New Model Plan and Provisions for Both Attorneys and Paralegals; Assumption of Vehicle Loans/Leases and Reaffirmation/Cramdowns/ Redemption of Vehicle Purchase Contracts; Individual Chapter 11s - The process, differences/similarities between individual and business cases; Views from the Bench and numerous other concurrent sessions addressing evolving areas of bankruptcy law. The Schedule of Classes has various tracks for Attorneys and Paralegals/Legal Assistants. The day will offer up to 6.0 credit hours of CLE. A maximum of 6.0 Substantive Credits and a maximum of 2 Ethics Credits, depending on the classes attended. Registration for the conference begins at 8:00 AM. The program will conclude at 4:50 PM. Materials, welcoming reception, continental breakfast, snacks and luncheon are included in the registration fee. The Written Materials will be available in the following formats: Traditional Hard Copy (additional fee) and PDF download. The PDF download is compatible for dowload to a Kindle, Nook or any device able to handle a PDF file. For those not attending the conference, a downloadable PDF of the Written Materials will be available for individual sale for $70.00 per digital download for Members and $ for Non-members. If you are unable to attend, Hard Copies of the written materials will be available for individual sale for $ per copy for Members and $ for Non-members. MDBBA Election of Officers & Directors The MDBBA Annual Election of Officers and Directors will be held during the President s Opening Remarks between 8:45AM - 9:00AM in the main conference room. If you would like to nominate someone as a write-in candidate, attending the Annual on June 15, 2018 and arriving before 8:30am is recommended to ensure that your write-in nomination is considered. Please stop at the MDBBA Registration Desk between 8:00am and 8:30am to inform the conference staff that you have a write-in nomination and they will ensure that the President announces the write-in nomination before the voting begins.
