10 ABIM Recertification is no longer relevant New designations are Board Certified (yes/no) and Meeting MOC Requirements (yes/no) New Meeting MOC Requirements apply to everyone (including grandparents with lifetime certification) <1% of grandparents currently participate in MOC Hospitals determine individual physician credentialing and privileging Payers determine reimbursement policies

20 What are the changes to MOC For those currently in 10-year MOC cycles: 1.Finish out your individual 10-year MOC cycles for Parts II & IV, and MOC exam. Any points earned after January 1, 2014 will apply to those you need to maintain your existing certification and to be Meeting MOC Requirements. 2.On January 1, 2014, new MOC requirements apply to you 3.To be reported as Meeting MOC Requirements Activate your MOC program (if not currently enrolled in MOC) by March 31, 2014 Complete an MOC activity every 2 years and earn 100 MOC points every 5 years Complete patient survey & patient safety modules every 5 years Pass MOC exam every 10 years

21 What are the changes to MOC For those newly certified after January 1, 2014: 1.Your board certification does not have an end date 2.New MOC requirements apply to you after board certification 3.To be reported as Meeting MOC Requirements Activate your MOC program Complete an MOC activity every 2 years and earn 100 MOC points every 5 years Complete patient survey & patient safety modules every 5 years Pass MOC exam every 10 years

22 ABIM Certification Requirements Summary of Changes to MOC as of January 2014: 1.Board certified refers to passing initial certification exam 2. Meeting MOC Requirements is a new designation and applies to everyone 3. Meeting MOC Requirements include: Completing an MOC activity every 2 years Earning 100 MOC points every 5 years Complete Patient Safety & Patient Survey modules 4.MOC exam remains every 10 years 5.Future changes will strive to align MOC with MOL and ACGME core competencies 6.MOC points apply to all certificates you are maintaining (Earned MOC points apply to both cardiovascular diseases and interventional cardiology)
