1 Physicians, medical technologists, and technicians can earn up to 18 free CME or CMLE credits per year through an arrangement between API and the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP). There is no limit on how many people at each laboratory can use this feature; each staff member can be signed up for a personal account to earn their own credits. To Sign Up for a Free Continuing Education Account: 1. First, log in to Paperless Proficiency Testing a. When you open your browser window, be sure to type our web address into the address bar ( pt.com). b. When you are on our homepage, click on the Login button that is in the teal section, directly below Paperless Proficiency Testing. c. Enter your User ID as it is shown in the . When you type your password in, be sure that the Caps Lock button is off and that you use the Shift key for any capital letters.

2 2. Once logged in, click on the Enroll button in the blue section under Continuing Education.

3 3. Fill out the fields for yourself or the staff member you are enrolling. 4. Once the fields are completed, click on the Enroll button at the bottom of the screen. 5. If the enrollment is successful, the information clears out and a green message will appear above the Enroll button that says, The enrollment is complete and an has been sent to the designated person. Additional staff members can be signed up at this time.

4 How to Log in to Continuing Education Already Enrolled: 1. A User ID and password will be sent to the address on the account (this information will be different from the facility s Paperless Proficiency Testing User ID and Password). 2. When you open your browser window, be sure to type our web address into the address bar ( pt.com). 3. When you are on our homepage, click on the Login button that is in blue section directly under the Continuing Education heading. 4. Enter your User ID as it is shown in the . When you type your password in, be sure that the Caps Lock button is off and that you use the Shift key for any capital letters. 5. Once logged in, a welcome screen will appear.

Read the paragraph on Identifying Information and the either fill out the section with your birthdate and ASCP BOC Certification Category & Number or Select the box that says I decline to have my transcripts sent electronically to any organization. 7. If the account is activated successfully, you will now see a section where you can enter a new password if you choose. This Account Settings page is available at any time from the left side of the screen if you need to make any changes to your account. How to Earn CE Credits: 1. Once logged in, click on Earn CE Credits in the blue section. The available activities will be listed.

6 2. Click on the link for the activity. A page will open where several multiple choice questions are displayed. 3. Step 1 is a link to the ASCP educational commentary related to the questions. The commentary is in PDF format and should open in a separate window. 4. Step 2 is to answer the questions that relate to the commentary. Scroll down to view all the questions. 5. Once you have answered all of the questions, click the Submit for Credit button at the bottom of the screen. 6. Correct answers will be highlighted in green. Incorrect answers will be highlighted in red. Any incorrect answers will need to be corrected before credit is awarded.

7 7. Once all answers are correct, you will be able to continue to the next screen. 8. You will be asked to participate in an optional survey used to provide feedback on the exercise. To View Credits Earns/Print a Certificate: 1. Once logged in, click on Credits Awarded in the blue section. 2. Click on the name of the exercise. The certificate will open as a PDF in a separate window. 3. Repeat instructions for different activities to earn additional credits. Please note: New Courses are posted around the time that evaluations are available online or, approximately, one week after an activity s expiration (March thru December). These instructions may not cover all of the issues and/or questions that you may encounter.
