Our regular, structured courses fulfil these expectations and cover all aspects of injection moulding technology. Sumitomo (SHI) Demag has built up an enviable reputation as the best trainer in the UK injection moulding industry. James Hines - Process Engineering and Training. James completed his apprenticeship at Linpac Automotive Southend where he obtained a Degree in Polymer Science. He then moved to G&A Moulding Technology and spent 6 years working for John Goff, leaving as the Process and Training Manager. His last 6 years have been spent working for AST Technology (UK) Ltd as their Process & Training Manager. James has been in the industry for 20 years and has a wealth of knowledge in the Automotive, Telecoms and Pharmaceutical industries. He will provide process training and consultancy to all UK & Ireland customers as well as supporting the Area Sales Managers. Darren Vater-Hutchinson Process Engineering and Training My career in plastics started at Link Plastics as a trainee toolsetter, finally progressing to senior technician. From Link Plastics I moved to Plastic Omnium as a technician in the technical department. I then moved to BPTA where I spent 11 years, as a technical consultant. Prior to BPTA closing I joined Epson, as a senior within injection moulding department. During a period of three years I achieved a high accolade, a 'silver award' in the 37th global Epson injection moulding competition in Japan. The silver award achievement reflects globally a second place position. I was the first British person to enter such competition for Epson since manufacturing began in May I then rejoined PTIC (formerly BPTA) in 2012 and completed my Masters in 'Polymer Engineering Design' at the University of Wolverhampton. I have worked within the injection moulding industry for 30 years with exposure to trade moulding, automotive and IT consumables. Rob Keers, who covers our maintenance and troubleshooting courses, has been with Sumitomo (SHI) Demag for over 20 years. During that time he has built up a wealth of practical maintenance experience, covering NCII, NCIII, NC4 as well as our current NC5 product range; Systec, EL-EXIS and Smart. 2

4 Course Contents Processing courses MS-1 SUMITOMO DEMAG MACHINE SETTING (NC4 / NC5) Intended for setters and technicians, this two-and-a-half day course enables Sumitomo Demag machine users to become familiar with and competent with the use of the NC4 or NC5 machine control system. By the end of this hands-on course, delegates will be able to set a machine from first principles, appropriately for the mould and material being processed. MO-1 OPTIMISATION OF SUMITOMO DEMAG MACHINES (NC4 / NC5) This course is of two-and-a-half days duration, and is intended for competent machine users wanting to achieve the maximum process reliability. It continues naturally from the Machine Technology course. A number of tasks are completed by delegates as they achieve a step by step optimisation of the moulding process. To ensure trainees achieve the objectives of the course, completion of the Introduction course is a condition for entry onto the Optimisation course. MD-1 RECOGNITION AND RECTIFICATION OF MOULDING DEFECTS Intended for setters and technicians, this two day course discusses the causes and effects of faulty machine settings, material handling, processing and tool design. Examples of defective mouldings will be available and moulding defects will be produced and eliminated using Sumitomo Demag machines 4

5 Processing courses cont d. PQ-1 PROCESSING FOR QUALITY This course is of five days duration and the accent is on producing quality. It will be relevant to engineers, senior setters, and technicians already experienced in injection moulding, who are interested in developing a deeper understanding of the subject. The course includes both theoretical and practical work. The course considers the machine attributes that affect quality and productivity, machine optimisation, the processing characteristics of different polymers and polymer types, monitoring of processing variables, the effect of mould design on quality, machine specification and SPC. Revision of moulding techniques and good mouldshop practice are included in the practical sessions. AIM-1 APPRECIATION OF INJECTION MOULDING This 2 day course is aimed at personnel whose usual area of work lies outside the mouldshop. It is of two days duration and consists of lectures and practicals covering the important aspects of injection moulding technology to provide an overview of the fundamentals and processing procedures. The course covers materials technology, machine attributes and construction, basic machine setting procedures, process variables, health & safety requirements and mould technology. 2KM-1 INTRODUCTION TO TWO-SHOT MOULDING Intended for setters and technicians, this three day course enables Sumitomo Demag machine users to become familiar with and competent with the use of a two-shot injection moulding machine. By the end of this hands-on course, delegates will be able to set a machine from first principles, appropriately for the mould and materials being processed. N.B: The course above can be given on site at the customer s premises or at our own facilities depending what machines we have on our premises at the time. 5

6 Maintenance Courses MT-1 MULTI-SKILL MAINTENANCE COURSE FOR SUMITOMO DEMAG MACHINES (NC4 / NC5) DEMAG HYDRAULIC MACHINES ( Direct Lock & Toggle Lock) DEMAG ELECTRIC MACHINES ( Toggle Lock) This special four day multi-skilled maintenance course is suitable for skilled staff from either a mechanical or an electrical discipline. The course is designed to give delegates theoretical and practical fault finding experience on the hydraulic control, electrical control and mechanical systems of both the direct and toggle lock machines. 8 Booking a course Course bookings must be confirmed with an order number before commencement of course. Provisional bookings Provisional bookings can be held for a maximum of 2 weeks after which time they must be confirmed with an order number or it will be assumed that the booking is no longer required. Course Confirmation Official confirmation of course bookings will be sent 4 weeks before course commencement. Delegates Maximum number of delegates per course is 4. The trainees must not be available for normal working activities during the course. Site Requirements A successful on-site course requires 1 moulding machine with suitable tools to be set aside for training purposes throughout the duration of the course. Also, a lecture room or suitable work area should be available. Cancellation Should the course be cancelled by the customer within 10 WORKING DAYS of course commencement the full cost of the course will be invoiced, unless the candidate is enrolled on the next course. Certificates Start times Dates of courses Certificates are issued to candidates on successful completion of the course. Most Process courses commence at a.m. on the first day and 9.00 a.m. thereafter. The exceptions to this are the Optimisation courses, MSO-2, which commence at 1.00 p.m. Maintenance course MT-1, starts Monday 1.00pm and finishes Friday 1.00pm Tailored to suit your requirements. 8
