He now specialized in Information Risk Management. He has lived and worked in the UK, Europe, the Americas and Asia for both large corporations and start-ups in the Financial Services, Energy and IT Service Industries, as well as advising organizations such as OECD and SSTP. He holds MBCS, CITO, CEng, CISSP and has been a Member of the Institute of Directors (MIoD) since Gavin initiated the founding of the BCS USA Section and has served as Section Chair since then. With support from BCS HQ and other USA-based members, the section was incorporated in He personally arranged and spear-headed several BCS events across the USA and in 2010, was a large proponent of establishing BCS USA SE Region sub-section. In March 2011, he will host the first BCS event in Malaysia. Gavin coordinated all aspects of the event with support from BCS HQ, with the intent of raising awareness of the BCS in Malaysia, as well as to enhance membership benefits to Malaysia-based members, as well as across SE Asia. Too many decisions appear to be based on the UK model, and take into account neither the geography nor the legal structures of the Section s home territory. Originally qualifying as a Physicist, I served in the industry as a Chief Officer and Senior manager for forty years, in public and private sector. Supported International Sections by: Presenting budgetary applications Working with Head Office Support Staff on their behalf Instigating invitations to and participation in the Annual Member Conventions Representing their interests on BCS Committees Providing briefings for BCS Presidential visits Hosted Representatives on their visits to the UK Promoted interest in Specialist Groups Promoted the concept of twinning between IS and Branches Initiated the new procedure for inclusion in Council meetings and increased representation there For the future, if elected, he proposes to: Work closely with the new addition Representative. Previously as an experienced manager in systems consulting and Ernst & Young s business advisory practice assisted companies improve and sustain business performance through the use of technology. Advised Fortune 1000 companies on large scale ERP system implementations, business and process re-engineering initiatives, organizational change management, SOX 404 Controls and external audit s to support financial statements. 7 Gihan Nilendra Wikramanayake Sri Lanka Section Ruwan Indrajith Amarasekara Mallikarachchige Geethapriya Tillekeratne Professor Gihan Wikramanayake graduated from University of Colombo with First Class Honours and obtained his Masters and PhD in Computer Science at Cardiff University, UK, and has over 25 years of academic and industry experience with many published articles in his expertise fields of Database and e-learning Technologies. He is the Director of the University of Colombo School of Computing and the Chairman of the University Owned IT Company. And a Director of Sri Lanka Software Testing Board, Lanka Education and Research Network and been a consultant for many a UNICEF, World Bank and Asia Development Bank projects. He is the Chairman of the BCS Sri Lanka Section and has served the section committee for seven years in addition to professional bodies such as IEEE Sri Lanka Section, Computer Society of Sri Lanka, etc. He judged the section s ICT Awards since its inception in 1998 and at the Asia Pacific ICT Awards since 2003 and has been the Team Leader of the National Informatics Olympiad for over a decade. Being the chairman of the largest international section having aproxi.4300 members and with an illustrious career and recognition received from different parts of the world Gihan will strengthen council s international acceptance.
