3 Mr Michael Gerard CULLEN CEng FBCS CITP Liz Bacon CEng CSci FBCS CITP Chris Andrews CEng MBCS CITP Charles Chang FBCS CITP Roger Marshall FBCS CITP I graduated as a physicist in I did three years postgraduate research afterwards, and joined the CEGB in 1980 as an analyst/programmer, staying there for two years. I have been a contractor for nearly thirty years, with occasional permanent roles. Contracts have ranged from three months to over three years, mainly in the IBM Mainframe environment. Interests lie in the Applications Development and Software Configuration Management fields. I was first elected to Council in 1990, and was made a Fellow in I was heavily involved in securing the original Chartered Information Systems Practitioner title from the Privy Council. I was chairman of the Independent Computer Contractors Specialist Group since its recognition by the BCS on 22nd November 1989 until May 2000, then from Sept 2003 until its dissolution in I was elected to Trustee Board by Council in 2010, and also sit on the Policy and Public Affairs Board. I am an elected member to the Consultative Council of the PCG (Professional Contractors Group). I have sat on a number of Boards during my time at the BCS. We are in a period of severe economic difficulty, and the traditional modes of employment are undergoing a significant change. It is becoming apparent the Freelancing is on the increase, and I fully intend to ensure that the Institute will be seen as the natural home of the Professional IT Contractor. If elected to Council, I do intend to stand for a second term of office on Trustee Board. 3

I believe that BCS must engage with a significantly increased number of IT professionals, industry leaders and educators. I will champion the development of the Chartered IT Profession registration so that it becomes a standard required by employers, requested by recruiters and sought after by practitioners. I will encourage the Institute to deepen its influence with government, especially in respect of Cyber Security and Data Privacy where legislation and regulation will impact our profession. I will support the Institute in shaping the future of Computing Science and IT teaching, assessment and on-going professional development from classroom to boardroom. I will represent the interest of the professional members of BCS, recognising that the Institute is strengthened by wider enfranchisement and engagement with students, professionals, academics and policy makers. 4

5 Mr Colin BEVERIDGE MSc FBCS CITP Geoff McMullen CEng FBCS CITP Steven Burrows FBCS CITP Thomas Crick MBCS James Uhomoibhi FBCS CITP I have worked in just about every aspect of business computing; starting out as a trainee programmer and progressing through project management, support and delivery roles to the CIO s chair. This journey helps me understand the personal ambitions and varied professional development needs of people working with technology. Our shared challenge is to remain relevant to our rapidly changing world so I routinely keep my skills refreshed and up to date. My hard-won experience is underpinned with recently updated postgraduate qualifications in Software Engineering, Technology Strategy and Information Systems. I really value my BCS membership and I believe in making a strong personal contribution to the future success of BCS and its members. I have served on Council for the past four years and Trustee Board since July I have also served on the Council Development Group, the Interim Membership Board and the Products and Services Board. Last July I readily accepted my new role as the Trustee responsible for the BCS strategic planning process. As an active volunteer, my contribution to BCS is generally about two days a week. My BCS branch affiliations are: West Yorkshire and London Central Branches (because I am more often in London); I also subscribe to a diverse mix of BCS Specialist Groups: Business Information Systems, Cybernetic Machine, BCS ELITE, BCS Entrepreneurs, Open Source, Sociotechnical. I wish to be re-elected to Council so that I can continue to influence BCS from the practitioner perspective, particularly working towards further improvements in the quality of information provided to the membership and championing the causes of better BCS communication, cohesion and engagement. To do this I believe that Councillors and Trustees must frequently interact directly with as many fellow members as possible, which is why I regularly participate in face-to-face BCS events and online discussions. 5

6 Mr Chris ANDREWS CEng MBCS CITP Iain Thompson CEng FBCS CITP Michael Chad FBCS CITP Jon Hall CEng CSci FBCS CITP Maggie Kneller CEng FBCS CITP I graduated from Aberystwyth University in 1988 with a first class BSc (Hons) in Computer Science. I first worked for HSBC (then Midland Bank) in IT, before moving to my current employer, IBM, 16 years ago. In IBM I have worked in a variety of customer-facing Information Management Services roles. I am mentoring a number of IBM colleagues, plus developing my technical leadership skills on an IBM leadership development programme. I joined the BCS 28 years ago, becoming a Member in 1995 and a Membership Assessor in I contributed to the employer consultation on the future of CITP, joined Membership Committee in 2008, becoming Vice-Chair 2 ago years and I will become Chair in December I was elected to Council in November 2009 and as a Trustee in June In May 2012 Council elected me as the Chair of Council until May I am currently a member of the Governance Review Steering Committee of Trustee Board and previously served on the Presidential Working Group on the EGM. I am married with two children, aged 10 and 6 and coach children s rugby in my spare time. Computing is now a worldwide profession and becoming ever more competitive, with this and our current economic situation, I will work to: Develop our membership structure by adding more grades so we can better support our members and their employer s, by providing a more defined career progression. Continue the work to make computing a credible and attractive academic subject. Ensure we do more to develop those volunteers who wish to increase their involvement in BCS or develop into more senior roles. Improve BCS contribution to our members, the public and the UK economy. 6

7 Mr Mark Richard BEATTIE JP FBCS CITP Paul Jagger FBCS CITP Steve Durbin FBCS CITP Mike Hurst CEng MBCS CITP Kevin Jones FBCS CITP Mark is currently employed as Chief Information Officer at a large waste management company based in North London. He controls a multi-site operation and provides a wide range of IT and telephony services to the business. He is responsible for all sides of the IT systems having grown the use of technology from 4 PC s on site when he arrived in his role. With over 150 now in place significant business benefit has been delivered through the use of technology. Mark serves as a Magistrate based in North London, appointed in He is a Governor of Aylward Academy in Edmonton as well as an External Trustee for the Student s Union at Southampton University since Mark is a former member of the IT Law Specialist Group Executive and is an active Peer Review Interview Assessor in the CITP process, having completed over 50 interviews in He has served on BCS Membership Committee for the past 18 months, and was made a Fellow of BCS in He is also an Assessor for the CESG Certification scheme. I have shown a person commitment to the professionalism of IT by support of the new CITP process. I know from my CITP interviews that a wide range of organisations large and small, public and private sector, see the need for BCS to start to set standards for IT in the future. I hope that by being elected as a member of Council that I would be able to bring my experience from business as well as a voluntary sector to bear. A set of qualifications for those working in IT has started the process of recognition for the contribution that technology can make it in all walks of live. I would like BCS to become the natural home for this. 7
