The event was organized at the InterContinental Resort in Balaclava. The Chair of the section, Mr Veeshal Seeballack, talked about the achievements of the section and how BCS is enabling the IT Society, both locally and at International Level. The Regional Manager, Mr M Iqbal Boolaky made a history of how he lived the 25 years of BCS in Mauritius. He shared his experiences, difficulties and hard work to get the BCS to the status as it is today. He thanked Mr Jeewan Manthoorah who dared to introduce the BCS examinations in Mauritius.

2 On the occasion of the 25 years of BCS in Mauritius, Past Presidents, Judges of competitions and well wishers were offered BCS souvenir gifts from the Section for the occasion. BCS Head Quarters seized to opportunity to honour three of its senior most members. They are Mrs Shirin Bholah, MBCS, CITP; Mr Daramraj Nursiah MBCS and Mr M Iqbal Boolaky FBCS, CITP. Professor Liz Bacon, the President of BCS, is equally the Deputy Pro Vice Chancellor in the Faculty of Architecture, Computing and Humanities at the University of Greenwich. She is a Trustee, President of BCS and sits on the BCS Academy of Computing Board, as well as a past Chair of CPHC (Council of Professors and Heads of Computing). Liz is passionate about the development of the discipline and keen to inspire more people to choose computing as a career, particularly women. She said Some of you may be thinking, why bother? What does it matter if women don t go into the profession? I would respond by saying that apart from the talent that the profession is missing out on, whilst we all have different individual strengths, research tells us that in general, women have higher social intelligence and companies who have male only board level directors tend to perform poorer compared to those who have a good mix of male and female so I would argue that it is not only important to get women into the profession but also to ensure they achieve at the highest levels.

3 Talking on the IT Awards, she said Before us tonight, we will see excellent examples of what this profession is really capable of, and I m sure you will agree with me that the future of this country is in good hands. Whichever category you or your colleagues have entered, and whatever the scale of your achievement, you are all here as the leaders in your field and I wish you the very best of luck tonight and offer my sincere congratulations to everyone involved in the awards; you should be extremely proud of your achievements. The BCS Awards All BCS awards are evaluated under the following criteria: Professionalism: Consistently meeting or exceeding challenging objectives to ensure the successful use of IT and demonstrating a quality approach through personal values and working practices. Innovation: Used innovative approaches, working practices or technologies to enhance their organisation. Role Model: Provided an example to peers or colleagues or the Mauritian society of the importance of the role of IT in the organisation and the standards expected of IT professionals. Measurable Success: Has delivered quantifiable benefits to the organisation or community through involvement with IT initiatives in the past year and can demonstrate personal development to enhance their ability to succeed in future. SFIA+ (The Skill Framework for the Information Age) is used by the BCS as a reference for skills assessment. The BCS IT Personality Award 2014 This is awarded to a CIO, IT Director, other board level IT Executive or any IT Affiliate, who has consistently demonstrated excellence in leadership, innovation and quality in the use and promotion of IT in his / her organisation to deliver business growth or improvements in public services. Winners are:

4 Ilrshaad Goolamally Ilrshaad Goolamally is a Technopreneur who is equipped with a blend of expertise in innovative technologies. He has more than 12 years of experience in the field of IT and mainly as Project Manager; having worked in several organisations in Mauritius and in the UK. He is actually Lead Partner for Keep Moving Co Ltd, Consultant for the Public Sector and part time IT lecturer. He is also member of the Internet Management Committee (IMC) and previously that of the National Cybercrime Prevention Committee (NCPC) which are under the aegis of the ICTA in Mauritius. Ilrshaad holds a Diploma in ICT Systems Support from City and Guilds (UK), a Bachelor of Engineering in Network Technology from Middlesex University (UK), an MBA from University of Technology (Mauritius) and various technical certifications (e.g CCNA, PLC, ISMS Lead Implementer, etc). Ilrshaad has achieved distinctions for various academic project and dissertation works. Sailesh Sewpaul This gentleman is the CEO and founder of Payment Express Ltd (PEX), a Third Party Processor certified by VISA and MasterCard. PEX offers its services to Banks and Financial Institution in Mauritius and the region. Before starting PEX in 2008, he worked at SBM for 20 years. He is an adaptable and highly experienced IT professional cum e banking Strategist from both technical and business perspective. He has spent 10 years in IT as Project Manager and 10 years in business as Head of Card, Head of Retail Banking and Head of ebusiness. He has served as Business Adviser to VISA Board for the Central Europe, Middle East and Africa Region for 7 years. He has launched a number of innovations and firsts in Africa. Sailesh holds a General MBA from Edinburgh Business School, Heriott Watt University, UK.

5 The BCS Young IT Specialist Award 2014 This is awarded to an IT professional under the age of 30 on 25th October 2014, in any discipline, who has demonstrated outstanding commitment and achievement in their work, and through their quality and professionalism stands out in their organisation as a high performer in IT. Winner is Akshay Seebaluck Akshay Seebaluck holds a Bachelor Degree in Computer Science and Engineering from UoM and a Master s Degree in Information Security from the Royal Holloway, University of London. He is a Professional Member of the British Computer Society, a Certified Ethical Hacker and an Associate Member of the (ISC) 2. Akshay started his career as a Programmer and thereafter took a job of Network Operations Center Engineer responsible for information security in an ISP that was a pioneer in the Fiber to the Home network in Mauritius. Presently, he is an information security consultant at the National Computer Board in the CERT MU Department.
