MULTIPLE LEARNING Plus, some diplomas such as Electrical Engineering, Electronic & Computer Engineering and Mechanical Engineering offer up to 8 specialisation options to cater to different interests. Earn and Learn Programme You can join the Earn and Learn Programme to get a head start in your career. A work-study programme, you will be matched with a company and undergo structured on-the-job training, and obtain an industryrecognised certification, such as the Specialist Diploma in Electrical Design and Operation, as well as the Specialist Diploma in Marine Production from NP. Jarrod Lim Third-year Engineering Science student and NP Engineering Scholarship recipient X The Young Researcher Zenas Lim Engineering Science graduate Class of 2015 Zenas passion for research deepened when he worked with experts at A*STAR s Data Storage Institute on his final-year project. His team s project eventually won the top prize in NP under the Polytechnic Student Research Programme in As the most outstanding NP graduate of his cohort, Zenas was awarded the Ngee Ann Kongsi Gold Medal. He also clinched the Lee Kuan Yew Award. He has secured a Defence Science and Technology Agency scholarship and a place to pursue a Masters in Electrical and Electronic Engineering in Imperial College London. OUR GRADUATES WITH THAT SOMETHING TRA The Math and Science Whiz Vhora Shrayans Suresh Mechanical Engineering graduate Class of 2016 A strong interest in physics and math, coupled with inspiration he got from the movie The Aviator and the keenness to study how machines were made, propelled Shrayans to take up the Mechanical Engineering course in NP. While in NP, he served as the President of Rangers, a selected group of student ambassadors from SoE. He also credits his great memories in NP to his encouraging supervisors. Shrayans has been offered to read Mechanical Engineering at NTU and NUS and aims to work in the field before coming back to NP as a lecturer. 07 SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING

6 The Renaissance Engineer Pavatharani Senthil Kumar Aerospace Technology graduate Class of 2016 From young, Pavatharani has always wanted to be a pilot and was curious how aircraft worked. In fact, tinkering with toys by taking them apart and fixing them afterward was something that came naturally to her. Undeterred by gender norms, she aspires to be one of the rare female leaders in the aerospace industry and intends to make the industry more eco-friendly. She has accepted an offer to read the prestigious Renaissance Engineering Programme at Nanyang Technological University, under the Renaissance Engineering Programme Scholarship. The Top Honcho Alfred Heng Wee Loon Electrical Engineering graduate Class of 2003 Armed with an electrical engineering background, Alfred is now the General Manager of Meiden Singapore Switchgear Plant. Besides driving the business at the top, he is also passionate about providing opportunities for NP students to learn and grow in the field. Be it through the SkillsFuture Earn and Learn Programme, internship or mentorship programme, he is giving it his utmost support. He sees this as a way of giving back to NP. After all, he had experienced failure before and was given the second chance to bloom in NP, where he topped his cohort and went on to excel in the field of electrical engineering. The Aerospace Designer Jonathan Yong Mechatronic Engineering graduate Class of 2004 While at NP, Jonathan had all the makings of a successful inventor. He won a silver award at the prestigious Tan Kah Kee Young Inventors Award for his unmanned aerial vehicle. As the top student of his course, Jonathan secured a Defence Science & Technology scholarship to pursue a degree at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign. In his final year at the university, he was awarded the National Scholarship from the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics and subsequently graduated with top honours in Aerospace Engineering. Jonathan later earned a Masters in Aerospace Systems Engineering. Jonathan is now working as a Senior Research Engineer and UAV test pilot for DSO National Laboratories. The IT Security Specialist Wong Kee Hui Network Systems & Security graduate Class of 2016 Kee Hui s passion for computer games spurred him to enrol in the Nitec course in Info-Communications Technology, where he realised his potential in the network systems field. His good results in ITE eventually earned him a spot in NP. He continued to shine in NP and was awarded the Tay Eng Soon Gold Medal upon graduation. Even though he has secured a place in Nanyang Technological University to read Computer Science, Kee Hui is also considering working in the field first and taking up certification courses to become an IT security specialist. If you want to be grounded in one of the most fundamental and flexible engineering fields, the Diploma in Electrical Engineering (EE) is a good pick. In the first two years, you will gain a good grasp of electrical and electronic engineering and computing applications. The broad-based foundation will enable you to pursue a wide range of careers. Modules covered include Electrical Technology, Sensors & Instrumentation, Microcontroller & Applications and Digital Systems & Applications. In your final year, you have the choice of picking one of eight specialisation options. Whatever your choice of specialisation is, the EE course will open doors to a wide range of careers. SPECIALISATION OPTIONS Audio-visual Technology Learn to integrate, operate and maintain AV and lighting systems for the MICE and entertainment industries. Electric Transportation Designed to meet the changing needs of the transport industry, this specialisation teaches you more about green vehicle technologies and light rail mass transit system. Electronics Learn how to design basic electronic systems and power conversion circuits using power semiconductor devices. Engineering Product Development Find out how to develop products based on a usercentred design approach, combining functional features and aesthetics for successful product design and differentiation. Engineering Management Be exposed to the various aspects of electrical contracting procedures and learn how to manage electrical projects. Marine & Offshore Electrical Systems Trains you to use sophisticated electrical control equipment and design marine electrical systems, and enables you to branch into the marine and offshore technology sector. For this work-study programme, you will be matched with a company, undergo structured on-thejob training, and receive an industry-recognised certification. Under the ELP, NP has launched the Specialist Diploma in Electrical Design and Operation that focuses on the design and operation of electrical distribution systems for commercial, industrial and residential projects. Participants will gain work experience while deepening their skills and knowledge. FURTHER STUDIES This diploma is recognised by leading universities both locally and abroad. SUBJECT O LEVEL GRADE English Language* 1-7 Mathematics (Elementary/Additional) 1-6 Science (with Physics, Chemistry or 1-6 Biology component) or Biotechnology or Computer Studies or Design & Technology or Fundamentals of Electronics You must also fulfil the aggregate computation requirements. * Candidates with English as a second language must have attained a minimum grade of 6. Candidates with severe vision deficiency should not apply for the course. Those with colour vision deficiency may be considered, subject to an in-house test.
