3 WELCOME The GAI is very proud of its record of preparing many learners for a career in architectural ironmongery over the past fifty years. During this time, the GAI education syllabus has undergone major changes. Whichever of the five main constituents you choose to look at - training materials, modules or course work, either online content or the examinations are now unrecognisable from what it was previously. The main recent changes were the manuals being rewritten in 2013/14 and the online delivery which was implemented in 2015 for The Certificate in Architectural Hardware. We are very proud to launch the GAI Diploma this year, online! The GAI education training program now meets the expectations of today s learning environment, being fully online with three of the most recognised qualifications in the industry Foundation in Hardware, The Certificate in Architectural Hardware and the GAI Diploma. After successfully completing the Certificate in Architectural Hardware either in one year or two, followed by the GAI Diploma, each learner will be fully competent and able to discuss the ironmongery requirements for a project with a client be that an architect, a building or joinery contractor, a building manager or an end user. With an almost equal balance of 49% overseas and 51% UK based learners, the online delivery of our education programme has certainly helped widen its global appeal. The GAI education syllabus is truly unique. For all those enrolling this year, we wish you well in your block assessments and in the end of year examination on Thursday 21 June 2018 a date certainly worth putting in the diary now. Rachel Tipton DipGAI, MInstAI, RegAI Chair of the GAI Education Committee P.1
