Roundtable introductions began and everyone introduced themselves. Chris Rondeau explained that the voting members have ballots in their folders, to vote on various items discussed throughout the meeting. Each present voting member was given a ballot and the absent voting members were ed the ballot. Cyber Technology (Network Security Concentration) Thanks to the TAACCCT grant, we were able to purchase lab sets of equipment for three of our labs to help students engage in more hands on activities. BPCC cyber students will participate in a Cyber Competition against Northwestern on April 23 rd. In this, they will build and troubleshoot computers, repair servers, and many other activities to put what they have learned to the test. Future plans are to make this an annual competition for our students.
2 This fall we finalized a transfer agreement with Capital College in Virginia. Students who graduate from our Network Security program, will be able to transfer in as a junior to finish their bachelor s degree. The agreement was also made to waive the out of state tuition fees for our students. Chris Rondeau discussed each voting item and explained the requested changes. The voting items for Network Security are listed below. Voting Items Approved Unanimously 1. Add CIS 114 (Windows OS) as a prerequisite to CIT 170 (Windows Server). 2. Remove CIT 115 (Network Security) from being a required course and replace with CIS Remove CIT 130 (Web Design I) from required courses and replace with a CIT Elective. 4. Remove CIT 100 (Information Technology Principles) from all programs and replace with CIS CIT 299 (Internship) allow exceptions to the internship requirement with a 200+ CIT level when students live more than 100 miles away OR if they are already in a career and are simply continuing their education. 6. Learning Outcome changes: Associate of Applied Science in Cyber Technology (Network Security Concentration) Certificate of Technical Studies in Health Information Technology Certificate of Technical Studies in Information Systems Security Professionals Certificate of Technical Studies in Senior Systems Manager 7. Updated Unofficial Curriculum Sheet 8. Add prerequisite of 18 CIS/CIT hours to CIT 282. Voting Items NOT Approved 1. Do we want to accept TestOut Certifications the same as we count CompTIA? (CompTIA A+ = TestOut PCPro, CompTIA Net+ = TestOut NetPro, CompTIA Security+ = TestOut SecurityPro, CompTIA Server+ = TestOut ServerPro, etc.) Cyber Technology (Programmer Analyst Concentration) Next discussed was the Cyber Information Technology Programmer Analyst Concentration and the program was turned over to Al Shaw. Al Shaw discussed each voting item and explained the requested changes. The voting items for Programmer Analyst are listed below. Voting Items Approved Unanimously 1. New Course Design: CIT 260: Interactive Program Design. This course is an introduction to the design of programs that involve real-time user interaction with an emphasis in graphical computer game design. This class will become a required class in the
3 Associate of Applied Science in cyber Technology (Programmer Analyst Concentration) and the Certificate of Technical Studies in Programming for Digital Gaming. 2. Eliminate CIT 130 and repurpose CIT 230 to become the new CIT Remove CIT 242: Computer Organization from the programming concentration. 4. Learning Outcome changes: Associate of Applied Science in Cyber Technology (Programmer Analyst Concentration) Certificate of Technical Studies in Programming for Digital Gaming 5. Updated Unofficial Curriculum Sheet Voting Items NOT Approved 1. Change CIT 235: Web Application Development from a required class to an elective class. 2. Allow the following courses to count as Programming Electives: CIT 235: Web Application Development CIT 242: Computer Organization CIT 243: Data Structures CIT 260: Interactive Program Design CIT 279: Information Assurance CIT 282: IT Project Management 3. The Certificate of Technical Studies in Programming for Digital Gaming - Replace CIT 100: Information Technology Principles and replace with CIT 260 (If approved to create). 4. Drop hour requirement for Programming Concentration from 33 to 30 semester hours Computer Information Systems The meeting was turned over to Pam Milstead to discuss the Computer Information Systems degree. She expressed how the changes will improve the CIS degree, make the students more employable and line up better with jobs for the students. Each voting item was discussed more in detail (located in the folder handed out at the beginning of the meeting). Pam discussed each voting item and explained the requested changes. The voting items for Computer Information Systems are listed below. ALL Voting Items Approved Unanimously 1. New course: CIS 107 (Skills for Information Technology Success) 2. New course: CIS 118 (Help Desk Operations) 3. New course: CIS 250 (Intro to Cloud Computing) 4. New course: CIS 260 (IP Telephony) 5. Require CIT 112 (Support of Emerging Technologies: A+)
4 6. Require CIT 282 (IT Project Management: Project+) 7. Require CIS 298 (CIS Internship) 8. Change the name and course description of CIS 114 (Microsoft Windows Client) 9. Take CIS 140 (Social Media) out of the CIS curriculum 10. Redesign CIS 227 (Computer System Design) to be more of a project class 11. Change the CIS prerequisite course from CIS 105 to CIS Change the current certification in CIS 100 from IC3 to CompTIA s IT Fundamentals 13. Change CIS/CIT Approved Electives 14. New CIS Curriculum Sheet hours of CIS/CIT courses required 16. New CIS Program Mission Statement 17. New CIS Program Learning Outcomes 18. New TCA in Help Desk 19. New TCA in Computer Repair 20.
