2 Today s Objectives To raise awareness of the responsibilities of students taking A Level ICT To gain a better understanding of the course content of the Single and Double Awards in A Level ICT To complete an A Level ICT sample piece of work in preparation for September
3 The Teachers The following are your Applied ICT teachers for the duration of the course: Single Award Mr Timmins Mr Metcalfe
4 Marking Each coursework task has been allocated 6 hours to complete. Due to the change in exam time, the exam unit will be taught throughout the year. Homework will be set for this and expected to be handed in promptly. Each student will be given the opportunity to apply for an extension on a deadline. This can only be done a maximum of two times during the course of each unit. It is in your interest to hand in promptly for all deadlines. The sooner you hand work in, the sooner it will get marked and the more chance you have to make improvements.
5 Equipment To every ICT lesson you must ensure you have with you the following equipment: Pen, pencil, ruler, rubber, sharpener etc. as there are aspects of the course that are non computerised. An A4 ring binder which will be kept by the department to retain all of your work. A memory stick is advisable/drop Box account An A4 pad/writing paper/jotter to take notes on.
6 Recommended books Single Award OCR AS GCE Applied ICT for Single Award ISBN: It is important that you buy this book. It will help you with all your units especially the exam unit! Note: You may be able to buy the book off past students if you want to save money!
7 Recommended software During the course of the year, you will be exposed to a broad range of software. Although we do not expect you to go out and purchase the software, it is imperative that you get familiar with using the software over the summer. Such software may include: Adobe Photoshop/Adobe Fireworks Microsoft Office e.g. Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint etc. You will be able to use Remote Access to Access the schools software from home.

10 Unit 1 Communication assessed by: Portfolio 7 Tasks Based around a fictitious hotel Chello Hotel Deadline for each task normally a week. Exceptional circumstances only accepted for non submission on deadline. Submit unfinished rather than miss deadline
11 UNIT 2 HOW ORGANISATIONS USE ICT
12 Unit 2 Communication assessed by: Exam in June Take specimen answer into the exam and your notes on the 3 sections. Based around a fictitious company/business This unit will be taught throughout the year.
13 Unit 3 ICT SOLUTIONS FOR INDIVIDUALS IN SOCIETY
14 Unit 3 Communication assessed by: Portfolio 7 Tasks Based around university selection Deadline for each task There are some report/ essay part to this unit.
15 Problems with course last year Deadlines this is always a problem! Implications for other units. Keeping to deadlines key. Spelling is awful. Lack of communication between student and teacher. Make sure you listen to your teacher. Ability to use software e.g. Dreamweaver, Photoshop etc.
16 San Francisco Available to all Year 12 ICT & Computing students Visit Silicon Valley, World Compute Museum, Intel HQ plus sightseeing in San Francisco Depart June 30 th Return July 7 th 1500 including flights accommodation and excursions.
17 Task : Logo Chello Hotel Your task is to design a suitable logo for a fictitious hotel called Chello Hotel. You will need to use an appropriate graphics package to do this e.g. Photoshop/Fireworks etc. It needs to be a minimum of 200 pixels x 200 pixels. Once you have created your logo, you will need to justify your design decisions by way of annotations in a separate Word document. Note: This will need to be finished for September!
18 The step up from GCSE to A' level is a big Jump. Stay focused and try not to panic the rewards are worth it!
