3 Purpose of register The South African National Energy Development Institute (SANEDI) in collaboration with the Department of Energy and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) have established a register for Energy Service Companies (ESCo register). The ESCo register is an important tool facilitating the market development and growth of ESCos in South Africa; The ESCo s will be utilized by both the public and private sector to identify, plan, develop, finance or implement co-generation or energy efficiency and demand side management projects in buildings, public lighting or water infrastructure. The register is reviewed and updated ensuring the ESCos with the opportunity to achieve a higher certification level as they mature.

4 Who should register ESCos with experience and expertise in the areas highlighted below should register: Experience with all of the following energy management services: -Energy Audits and feasibility studies -Project Design -Project Implementation -Measurement and Verification Energy management services, esp. for following technologies: Traffic and street lighting Building lighting HVAC Pumps for fresh and waste water Cogeneration Energy supply contracting (solar PV, cogen, biogas, etc.) Issuing of Energy Performance Certificates Financing of energy projects

5 Registration process Register your ESCo by using the link provided ESCo certification ESCos will be catergorised as either Tier 1 (Full ESCo) or Tier 2 (Developing ESCo). Tier 1 ESCOs will have to achieve full certification in at least 70% of the criteria evaluated, with partial certification in all others. To qualify for Tier 2, partial certification in at least 70% of the criteria evaluated is required. For Tier 2 (Developing ESCo s) will undergo training which will developed them in becoming Full ESCo s. See Table 1 for a summary of certification criteria and for supporting documentation required as part of the submission.

In other words Table 2 should be filled out separately for each of the following technologies: -Traffic/Street lighting -Building lighting -HVAC -Water/Sewerage Pumping -Waste Water Processes -Cogen

10 No of ESCo s registered 49 ESCo s have registered Once the ESCo s have registered and pre-screened they will go on to evaluation process where they will be catergorised as either Tier 1 (Full ESCo) or Tier 2 (Developing ESCo).
